  Welcome to our Volunteer English Project in Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung, Indonesia!
  
  Our Volunteer English Project is hosted by, a local Indonesian high school. The main part of the program is supporting our English teachers and spending time with our students through English learning, conversation, games, discussions, and other classroom activities.
  
  Our students are teenagers who are curious about the world outside Indonesia. They are usually very excited to meet international volunteers, practise their English, ask questions, and learn about different countries and cultures.
  
  For us, having a volunteer is not only about teaching English. It is also about giving our students the chance to meet someone from another part of the world and have a real cultural exchange.
  
  🏫 Life at our school
  
  This is a busy Indonesian school, so volunteers will experience normal school life with our teachers and students. You may observe classes, assist teachers, join speaking activities, work with small groups, or sometimes lead your own simple activities depending on your experience and confidence.
  
  We hope our volunteers will not only teach our students, but also get to know them, talk with them, laugh with them, and learn from them.
  
  🏠 Life with us
  
  Outside school, you will also experience everyday Indonesian family life.
  
  We are a local Indonesian family, not an international-style homestay. Our family is warm, lively, sometimes noisy, spontaneous, and full of conversations and jokes. 😊 We enjoy eating together, talking, going out, exploring local places, and sharing everyday moments.
  
  Indonesian communication can sometimes be different from what you are used to. People may ask where you are going, when you will come home, whether you have eaten, or simply tease you as part of a friendly conversation.
  
  Sometimes a joke or comment may sound different to someone from another culture. If something feels strange or confusing, please feel free to ask us. We are happy to explain, and we also want to learn about your culture and way of communicating.
  
  Cultural exchange works both ways.
  
  You don't have to understand everything immediately. Just be willing to communicate, learn, adapt, and laugh with us. 😊

  Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje

  Pangkalpinang is a small city with a big heart. Although it may not be as well-known as Bali or Jakarta, it offers a chance to experience everyday life in Indonesia in a more local way.
  
  Our community is a wonderful mix of Malay, Chinese-Indonesian, Javanese, Batak, Flores, and other cultures. Living here means experiencing different traditions, celebrations, languages, food, and ways of life within one community.
  
  As a volunteer, you'll experience more than just the school. You'll meet local teachers and students, share meals with Indonesian families, join local activities, and have many opportunities to talk and make friends with people from different backgrounds.
  
  One of the things you may learn here is that people from different cultures can communicate and connect in many different ways. Sometimes you may find something funny, unusual, or even confusing at first. That's part of the cultural exchange. We encourage you to ask questions, share your own perspective, and learn from each other.
  
  Outside school, you can explore beautiful beaches, waterfalls, local markets, fishing villages, and the countryside. You can also join my family or friends when we go out and experience some of the places that local people enjoy.
  
  Most importantly, we hope you'll leave with more than just photos. We hope you'll take home new friendships, new experiences, and a better understanding of Indonesian culture and everyday life.

  Ayuda

  The main purpose of the program is English education and cultural exchange. Our volunteers mainly work with our students and support our English teachers.
  
  Depending on the volunteer's experience and confidence, activities may include:
  
  - assisting English teachers;
  - conversation practice with students;
  - speaking activities;
  - small-group activities;
  - co-teaching;
  - preparing simple English learning activities;
  - cultural exchange sessions;
  - sharing your own language and culture with our students.
  
  Volunteers may initially observe and assist teachers before gradually taking a more active role in the classroom.
  We hope volunteers will not only teach English, but also talk with our students, encourage them to speak English, share their culture, and learn from the students as well.
  The most important part of this project is the students.

  Of course, the language that can be learned is Indonesian, but some of our teachers and staff are able to use Javanese, Batak, Mandarin, and German as a beginner.

  When you stay with us, we hope you'll feel less like a guest and more like a member of our school and family community.
  
  You'll have your own comfortable private room with:
  - Air conditioning
  - Private bathroom
  - Western toilet

  - Wi-Fi
  
  Your room is located within the school area, so you'll be close to our teachers and students while still having your own private space to rest.
  
  During weekends, you are welcome to stay with my family and spend time with us.
  One of the lovely parts of being here is meeting our students every day. They are usually very happy to see international volunteers and will often greet you with big smiles and a cheerful “Good morning!” 😊
  
  🍚 About Food
  
  We provide simple home-cooked meals. We normally eat what the family eats, so please don't expect special meals or restaurant-style food every day.
  Our meals may include Indonesian, Chinese-Indonesian, and local Bangka dishes. Meals are usually simple and may change from day to day.
  If you have any dietary restrictions, allergies, or foods you cannot eat, please let us know before you arrive so we can discuss the arrangements together.
  
  🌴 Free Time & Weekends
  
  In your free time, you can explore our beautiful beaches such as Pasir Padi and Parai Beach, visit waterfalls and hills, or simply enjoy the coastal scenery of Bangka Island.
  Weekends are usually free, so you'll have plenty of time to relax, explore Bangka Island, or experience local life.
  You are welcome to join my family or my friends when we go out, visit local places, have a meal, or take a short trip. Of course, you are also free to make your own plans and explore on your own.
  If you'd like to explore somewhere, we'll be happy to recommend places or help you arrange a short trip.
  Whether you stay for a few weeks or a few months, we hope you'll leave Indonesia with good memories, new friendships, and a better understanding of everyday life here.

  Note 1:
  With two days off, you can explore pangkalpinang, we are ready to company you and make you save with us.
  For transportation, in our place we have Grab and Gojek, and we can use our motorbike.
  
  Note 2:
  ⚠️ IMPORTANT: Please read the C6 Volunteer Visa requirements carefully before sending us a message. Unfortunately, we cannot accept volunteers arriving with a Visa on Arrival or Tourist Visa.
  
  To volunteer legally in Indonesia, you will need a C6 Volunteer Visa.
  
  Don't worry—I'll guide you through the entire application process step by step. I have already completed this process successfully with previous Workaway volunteers.
  
  For the visa application, you'll need:
  • A passport valid for at least 6 months.
  • A recent formal photo.
  • A scanned copy of your passport.
  • A bank statement from the last three months showing a minimum balance of approximately USD 2,000 (required by Indonesian immigration).
  • Your Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • A phone number and email address.
  
  The visa fee is approximately IDR 2,000,000. You may either pay it yourself or transfer the amount to me, and I'll arrange the payment in Indonesia.
  
  I understand that the visa process may seem complicated at first, but I'll be happy to help you with every step until your visa is approved.
  
  The visa requirements are set by the Indonesian government, not by our school.
