Hello we are a family that life near montañita in the mountains area, near the beach.
We own an online shop, two horses and a bunch of activities such as fencing and archery we will be happy to teach you.

We are searching for workawayers that want to learn more about our culture, the sourraoundings, and us ... that can also help us a bit by making social media content for our shop, helping a little bit around with the horses or maybe just give good energy around.

We do not provide food as we ask for less than 3 hours of work per day (15 hours on a week)
Also if you want to get involved in a project that requieres more time up to a maximum of 5 hours per day we will be very glad to provide food as the workaways rules mention.

I had the best time with Karen and Nando!! They picked me up from the bus station in montañita the first day and helped me get settled (buying a SIM card, getting groceries). After that they showed me a really nice (and super local) lunch place, which I visited a couple of times during my stay, due to the super affordable and delicious lunch… read more special (almuerzo).

They don’t live directly in the city so I advice you to stock up on basic groceries that first day, so you can get settled without worrying about that. Regardless, it is pretty easy to get from their place to montañita. I always took a taxi ($3) from a company Karen recommended, since that way it is safe for sure and you pay the prices locals pay and not an increased tourist one.

During my days there I had the opportunity to help with one of Karen’s women retreats. We did horse riding, archery, painting and more. The women were all extremely nice and we all got along well super quickly. Most of them mainly spoke Spanish, so it was a great way for me to practice and even though, due to the language barrier, we didn’t always totally understand each other, they took their time to try to include and have a conversation with me. All to say that I highly recommend staying there and helping with one of the retreats, since it was a super unique experience that I wouldn’t have had otherwise!

Generally, they didn’t ask me to help them with a lot of things, but when they did, it were pretty simple tasks, such as weeding the garden (with Karen and Nando), putting up decorations (with Karen) or making beds. My working time was mostly on my own schedule. Karen also asked me to have a little interactive talk during the retreat, which in the beginning intimidated me a bit, but she helped me through all parts of the preparation and in retrospective I am really happy I did it, since I was able to learn a lot from this and also felt super proud of myself afterwards. During my time in montañita I ate/drank something wrong (I think juice de tomate de árbol), which resulted in me having pretty bad stomach pain and not only did they help me find the right medication, but also always prioritized my health, telling me only to work if I feel well enough.

I am staying in Ecuador for one month and planned to stay with Karen and Nando for about a week, but I liked it so much that I extended my stay to almost two. Karen also helped me plan the rest of my trip, recommending places to go to and things to do.
They honestly just want you to have the best time in Ecuador and are super helpful if you have any questions. By the end of my stay I felt like part of the family. So if you are looking for a place with welcoming, outdoorsy, hardworking, but relaxed people, that love their animals, this is the right place:)
