Hi! We’re Rob (sometimes called Bob) and Glenda, and we live on the breathtaking Eyre Peninsula in South Australia — around 4–5 hours west of Adelaide, on the edge of the desert and overlooking the ocean.
This is a very different Australia from the cities. Rugged coastline, huge skies, emus wandering past the house, kangaroos at sunset, and some of the most dramatic light and weather you’ll ever see. We live in a tiny classic 1940s Australian beach shack right on the beachfront, and we love sharing this beautiful place with people who appreciate simple living, nature, and adventure.
We also have a lovely vintage 1970s caravan in excellent condition that provides comfortable accommodation for one or two people (double bed). You can have your own space and independence while still being part of our little here.
Life here is peaceful, remote, and very connected to nature. We’re in a conservation zone, so there are no manicured gardens — just ocean, dunes, native landscape, and wildlife. In summer we often have kangaroos and emus right outside the house because we leave water out for them during the hot weather.
We get around 300 days of sunshine each year. Daytime temperatures even through winter are often between 18–25°C, although summer can get very hot. Because we’re close to the desert, nights are often surprisingly cold even after warm days. The ocean is cold during winter and so warm in summer.
One of the truly special things about this area is the giant cuttlefish migration (May–August), where thousands of giant cuttlefish gather in nearby waters. People come from all over the world for diving, snorkelling, glass-bottom boat tours, and underwater photography during the season.

This is not luxury accommodation - it’s authentic Australian shack life.
We live on rainwater only, so water is precious and we’re careful with how we use it. Quick showers are absolutely fine, but we do have a very “outback Australia” approach to water conservation (“if it’s yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down…”). Our bathroom is also in an outdoor shed rather than inside the house. Private, functional and enclosed, just not "under the main roof".
We don’t have a washing machine, so we head into town for laundromat trips when needed.
But what we do have is:
    absolute beachfront living
    spectacular sunsets and changing skies
    peace and quiet
    wildlife
    ocean walks
    kayaking
    an old-school windsurfer
    a little tinny boat
    fresh sea air
and the chance to experience a slower, more grounded way of life
Our darling dog Pecco is very much part of the experience too. He loves to make new friends and take them on beach walks.

We’re gradually renovating our little shack and there are always plenty of practical jobs to do. Tasks vary depending on the season and current projects, but might include:
painting, simple carpentry, moving rocks or pavers, outdoor projects, helping tidy and improve spaces, or providing general practical hands-on help.
People who enjoy making things, fixing things, creating beautiful spaces, or working outdoors will probably feel very at home here and you'll have plenty of time to explore the area.

Rob and I both have dietary requirements, so we usually don’t do shared meals every day. However, you’re very welcome to use the kitchen inside the house, and we genuinely enjoy spending time chatting, having tea, and getting to know the people who stay with us.
The caravan also has a fridge and simple cooking setup so you can comfortably manage your own food if you prefer independence.

    A FEW IMPORTANT THINGS...
Unfortunately we cannot host smokers due to health issues, so this is strictly a non-smoking property.
This place suits people who enjoy nature, simplicity, practical living, and a bit of ruggedness rather than luxury or nightlife.
Because we are remote, it’s best suited to independent travellers who have their OWN VEHICLE, are adaptable and relaxed.
If you’d love to experience a quieter, wilder side of Australia and don’t mind getting your hands a little dusty while staying beside the ocean, we’d love to hear from you.

We live a simple, relaxed life. Both my partner and I still work, Rob full time in Whyalla (25 minutes away) and I, online, In this era of our life, on weekdays, we also tend to collapse into an arm chair after dinner and just watch TV, or do a puzzle or game, so you would have lots of independence.Weekends we are much more engaging!
We do thoroughly enjoy meeting new people though and to share our love of this wonderful country.
PLEASE NOTE. Due to our significant dietary RESTRICTIONS and requirements, we would support you to organize your meals FOR YOURSELF. There are major supermarket roughly 30 monites drive from our property.
