Descripción
We are a family of four offering a comfortable, self‑contained one‑bedroom unit to travellers in exchange for help with our garden, which we are gradually revegetating. Our children are 1 and 4 years old, so we welcome guests who enjoy being around little ones and who can be mindful of keeping noise low during nap times and evenings.
Our accommodation is well suited to solo travellers, couples, or friends travelling together who are happy sharing a peaceful, family‑oriented environment. We have a queen sized bed in the bedroom for our guests, however there is also a day bed and a fold our sofa in the units living space that can be converted into additional beds if required.
Our home is located in a quiet neighbourhood just 4 km from the Launceston CBD. There is a bus stop close by, and a local supermarket is only a five‑minute walk away. Just across the road from our home is Queechy Lake, a peaceful natural space that is especially appealing to birdwatchers and nature lovers. These wetlands attract a diverse range of local birdlife, making them a lovely spot for early‑morning walks, photography, or quiet relaxation. We are also within easy walking distance of Old Macs Farm, a family‑friendly area with gentle paths and farm animals, and the Punchbowl Reserve, a leafy park with walking tracks, picnic spots, and a popular playground.
Launceston itself is a vibrant regional city known for its blend of heritage charm, natural beauty, and food culture. Highlights include the Cataract Gorge, just minutes from the city centre, offering walking trails, a chairlift, swimming areas, and stunning scenery. The city is also home to the lively Harvest Market, where visitors can enjoy fresh local produce and artisan foods every Saturday morning. The surrounding Tamar Valley adds wineries, farmland, and beautiful river landscapes to explore.
As part of our exchange we provide non‑perishable pantry items and a supply of frozen foods only. Fresh food and other groceries are at the helper’s own expense. We are open to sharing meals occasionally when it suits everyone, though this may not be possible every day. In exchange, we ask for approximately 3 hours of gardening and landscaping work per person per day. Tasks may vary depending on the season, the helper’s skill set, and the progress of our revegetation project.
All stays begin with a 3–4 night trial period to make sure the arrangement is a good fit for both you and our family. If things go well, we are happy to accommodate extended stays. Our set up allows for comfortable long term stay arrangements.
Helpers are very welcome to join us for family outings and activities if they wish there is no obligation, but the invitation is open.

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
We feel that what you’ll gain from staying with us, in terms of cultural exchange, is sharing real, everyday life together as part of our family while helping us with our passion project. We love meeting people from different parts of the world and swapping stories and languages over meals, chats, and daily routines. Our aim is that when you stay with us, you feel genuinely included in the household. We try to keep things relaxed, with a mix of time together and space to do your own thing.
We like to keep communication open and adapt it to what suits us and our guests best on a stay-by-stay basis. We’re always happy to explain tasks, answer or clarify questions, and of course, just have a good conversation. We enjoy learning about where you’re from, your culture, food, language, and travel experiences, and we love hearing different perspectives on life.
While you’re here, you’ll get a feel for Australian family life in regional Tasmania and pick up practical skills along the way. A lot of what we do is outdoors, so you’ll learn about gardening and basic landscaping, with a strong focus on using local native plants to improve biodiversity and help with the natural environment. Our hope is that you leave feeling comfortable, welcome, and like you’ve shared something meaningful with new skills, fresh perspectives, and hopefully a few good memories and friendships to take with you.

Ayuda
The help we’re looking for is mostly hands-on and outdoors. Tasks will mainly involve gardening and light landscaping, such as planting, mulching, weeding, improving garden beds, and general care of outdoor spaces. There can also be some basic earth moving involved, helping shape the land and create features for a natural outdoor play space for our kids, using natural materials wherever possible. A big focus of our project is working with local native plants to improve biodiversity and support the natural environment. There may be the occasional bit of general household help too. We explain tasks clearly, often work alongside you, and adjust things based on your skills, interests, and the weather. Overall, it’s practical, meaningful tasks done at a steady, relaxed pace.

Alojamiento
Our family home is located upstairs, while the one‑bedroom unit is downstairs, offering a good level of privacy and separation. The unit itself is fully self‑contained, and the bathroom is located just slightly detached from the unit. This bathroom is mainly used by guests staying downstairs, as we have our own bathroom upstairs, so it’s rarely shared. Laundry facilities are shared with the main house. Overall, the setup works well if you’d like your own space while still being close enough to feel part of family life when you want to.
