About us:
We are a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in northern Thailand, working in Chiang Khong, Chiang Saen, and Wiang Kaen districts, dedicated to ensuring that women and children are safe from all forms of abuse, exploitation, and violence.
We achieve our goals by working on three levels: creating society-wide safety nets for those who are at-risk, empowering women, men, and children and ensuring their right to participation, and advancing the rights of women and girls.
We work with communities. We work in schools. We work with immigration and the police. We work with businesses. Together we create strong networks that put in place a system through which those who are at risk of sexual abuse, trafficking, and other forms of exploitation can be identified, supported, and empowered.
We want to ensure that all people regardless of their background have a fair chance at a life with dignity. Our projects aim at inspiring and empowering people, mostly women and children, to become forces for change in their communities. In our projects, we employ a participatory approach that ensures all voices are heard and taken into account.
We want to live in a world in which gender equality does not work only on paper. We are committed to ensuring that girls and women have the same rights, opportunities, and equal standing in our society. Our leadership programs give the rights holders skills, confidence, and a support network. Together they go into the community and mobilize other women, setting the ground for a paradigm shift in what is considered to be the role of women in society.

You will live on-site with two Thai staff who are generous in providing meals for you, you will meet a whole host of local characters and have a chance to learn about the local context - a mountainous border town with diverse groups of ethnic groups and migrants. You will be invited to share in campaigns and cultural events and get to know members of a close-knit community. However, please be aware that language will be a barrier, as most of the local people do not speak English, or only a few words, and there are no other expats in the area. There are not many activities to do in the nighttime, so it is helpful to have your own projects that you're working on. It will be a challenging but also rewarding experience.
