Hi, we live on a smallholding just 25 minutes from Ayr and the beach in the south west of Scotland. It’s very rural and our place backs on to forestry. The house dates back to 1880! We have 4 acres with chickens, three horses, two dogs, three children: Lily 16, Milo 14 who is at boarding school so away most of the time, Buck 11, Georges and me (Liv).
There is lots to do keeping on top of the veg patch and animals but we are also working on the house. Everything we produce is just for us. We try to be as self sufficient as possible.
We are looking for someone who can help out with the animals and garden and ride the horses at least 3 times a week and be able to look after the kids if we are away. I work from home with some time in the week away, Georges is working from home with occasional travel down to London or abroad. Lily and Buck are at school all day so it would be topping and tailing the day, and preparing a meal.

You will experience a real glimps of rural Scottish life. (But without the accent! Both Georges and I sound English) It’s a very small village with a strong community spirit. We have travelled and lived overseas and love to share our culture. We live near where the famous poet Robert Burns was born and there are lots of castles to visit including sites that were filmed in the tv show Outlander. We are a train ride from Glasgow and just 2 hours from Edinburgh too so there is lots to go out and see and do. I love to cook and we share family meals every night. And what better way to work up an appetite than a good walk up the hill?
We would hope you would feel part of the family and share your culture with us. Especially if you want to teach me different recipes! We have had 9 au pairs in the past, many are still in regular contact. Now the kids are older this has been such a rewarding experience that we’d love to invite other young people to come and stay and share with us.

G and I are both working so although the kids are older now it’s great to have a hand with entertaining them.
As mentioned above, Georges is working from home with occasional travel down to London. Lily and Buck are at school all day so it would be topping and tailing the day, and preparing a meal.
The ponies need handline and Ghillie needs exercising at least 3 times a week. So a perfect opportunity for a keen rider. There are miles of off road hacking straight from the house.
Then there is the garden which needs some TLC so if you are green fingered that’s a great help.

We lived in Germany for 6 years so we all speak some Germany but love to learn more. Plus Georges speaks french very well and the kids and I want to improve our french to keep up.
Alojamiento
Accommodation is inside the house with a full size king bed and lots of cozy rugs and chairs etc.
There are two bathrooms that we all share. We always eat our evening meals together but you are free to help yourself to food for breakfast and lunch and there will be a pot of porridge on the stove most mornings. I like to bake bread so there’s lots of lovely fresh bread every day. We aren’t vegetarian but we don’t mind if you are. We are trying to grow as much of our own food as we can. Working towards self sufficiency.
Algo más...
There is a bus in the village that goes into Ayr and there is so much space to explore on foot or mountain bike. Maybe you like to take the dogs for a walk or hang out with the ponies. There is loads to do in your time off.

Hannah was a joy to have stay with us and is a really motivated person, kind person. She was a fantastic help. We had lots of fun playing games and hanging out too.
I stayed with the family for five weeks. On my first day Liv schowed me everything about the daily animal routine which quickly developed to one of my favourite parts of the day. I spent a lot of my time outside with, weeding, sanding and painting the window frames and windows sills. They taught me how to bake bread, to plant nice flowerbeds and I… read more enjoyed many rides with Liv up the hill or at the beach.
In the evenings we often played card games together and the food was just amazing! I enjoyed myself immensely and felt welcome right from the start and I definitely felt valued for the work I did. Liv and George are very committed to constantly developing themselves as hosts and actively seek feedback, which I really appreciated (but it particularly wasn't necessary because you're doing an amazing job!)
Thank you for this incredibly energizing experience!
Ida slotted into the family like we had known her for years. She quickly understood the routine of the animals and was dilligent in her duties. She used her initiative and was cheerful and willing to do a variety of tasks from painting, to sanding, planting new flowerbeds, weeding or muck spreading. We also enjoyed her riding skills and she… read more accompanied me on rides up the hill and on the beach with the ponies. She introduced us to lots of new games which we all love and trully enjoyed welcoming her into our home and hearts. Highly recommend her for any future workaways.

Fer stayed just a short time with us but was thrown in the deep end - literally! We took her paddleboarding. She was great fun, kind and used her initiative. She was happy and willing to turn her hand to any task asked of her and we thoroughly enjoyed her company during her time with us. I would highly recommend her to anyone in the future.

What was going to start as a short stay turned into 2 fun months of fitting in with the family. Liv and George were very flexible and accepting of our travel and were more than happy for us to stay longer than originally expected.
During our time with them we completed lots of garden projects, tree removal, fire wood, painting and attempted some… read more joinery. We enjoyed daily walks with the dog after delicious home cooked meals and enjoyed honing our bread skills. We loved sharing our knowledge of animals, soil and general outdoor tasks.
Liv and George allowed lots of autonomy and self direction with tasks, we made a number of suggestions and they were happy for us to crack on. We typically worked longer days but this was by choice and by no means expected.
By the end of our stay we had become good friends and look forward to staying in touch as Seaview house and everyone in it continues to develop and grow,
all the very best Hannah and James (NZ backpackers)

I spent almost one month with Liv, George, Buck, Lily and Iris and I had a great time. They are wonderful people and make you feel very welcome. I loved the farm with all the animals and the nature around. My tasks were for example poo-pickinging, feeding the animals or doing some painting in the house. I also spent a few days alone with the kids… read more and cared for them during that time, which was a lot of fun. We played lots of games together or did some crafting. They are very creative, independent and easy to entertain. I spent my freetime exploring the nature around the farm or going to Ayr and the beach. I also joined the family on a few trips, e.g. to have a picknick at the lake or go swimming at the beach which was very nice. Thank you so much for everything!

Spending these months with Liv, George and the children was one of the best experiences I have ever had. From the first moment they made me feel at home, so much so that when I talk about them I call them my 'Scottish family'. The work is very varied and flexible, partly outside and partly in the house. Their house is in a fantastic location,… read more surrounded by the Scottish countryside. There is a lot of free time to explore it and the good fortune to be able to do so in the company of their three friendly dogs.
Liv and George are friendly, funny and intelligent and conversations with them are always very pleasant. The children are energetic and very kind, always motivated to help me improve my English. I hope we will always stay in touch !!

The family stayed for just over 2 weeks and what a joy it was to have them visit! The kids joined in at the local primary with my younger two for the last week of summer term and thoroughly enjoyed it. Getting stuck in with all the games and classes.

We would happily welcome them again.

We experienced three months with the family, and felt during this time, like a family member. The time was flying by so quick! We benefited from the cooking skills (insights in traditional scottish / english kittchen, homemade pizzas, etc.), the knowledge about farming and DIY! Our daily routine was poo picking in the morning from the two ponies… read more (which Jana was also riding occasionally!:) ), following with different jobs (mainly gardening, animalcare or house renovation). Usually we worked between 4 and 5 hours a day (5 days a week) and we could manage the time by ourself. George is a passionate "teacher" and brings a lot of patience and supportive attitude towards you. From the house itself you have nice view on the ocean & mountains and you can go walk in the forest next to. We recommend to travel with a car, if you want to discover independantly the surroundings. We enjoyed being involved in any kind of activities of the family (like beachdays or games). Being not home for christmas, you made this event special for us! The Kids Lily, Iris and Buck are all in their own way unique and you can spend great times with them. Many thanks Liv & George for let us be a part of your crazy, cool, open minded & joyful family! Take care on you and see you around Jana & Rémi
