Community meals at the house only if you organize it. You may also dine at the local community kitchen for meals. There are also places nearby to get free food. Sometimes we will have a house cook if we have alot of volunteers, but usually plan to cook for yourself..
ARRIVING TO OUR PLACE:
*Fly into Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW), take a bus to downtown, then another bus to the house for about $3 USD.
If you are able to communicate with us, we can pick you up from downtown, so you only have to take one bus. You can also Uber directly to our place for about $30-35 USD. We cannot pick you up from the airport, or take you to the airport when you leave. When you are leaving, we can usually take you downtown and wait for the Airport bus with you to make sure you are safely on your way to the airport.
*If you arrive by bus or train we can usually pick you up from the station, as long as you arrive at a reasonable time
NOTE: It's best to arrive during the daytime hours, from Monday to Friday if you want to take the buses, as bus service is either nonexistent or slow at night and on the weekend. We recommend you download the UBER or LYFT apps on your phone if you plan to arrive that way.
HOURS: about 20 to 25 hours a week (4 hours a day of actual work time, Monday to Friday, weekends off)
Depending on the time of year, there is usually an interesting mix of people in our houses a mix of internationals from all over the world. We usually also have native speakers in the house to assist non native speakers with English.
