Hello everyone! My name is Mumbi (pronounced Mom-bee) and I live in the beautiful coastal town of Kilifi, Kenya. I was born and raised in Nairobi until I finished high school. I moved to the UK for three years, where I completed my undergrad before getting a job in Japan and moving there for two years. I did the whole "back-packing" across Asia trip before coming back to Kenya in 2018. I was planning on traveling to India in 2019 but then Covid happened and I found myself "stuck" for the first time in years. For someone who had spent the last 10 years out of Kenya and was used to moving around every few months, the stagnation was quite annoying haha.
When the last lockdown was lifted in July 2021 I made the decision to pack up and move once again, not to a different country this time, but several hours South to the Kenyan coast. I have always LOVED living by the sea. It is where I feel the happiest and most at peace. The chaos of Covid really made me want to live a more intentional life. Take thigs slower and "smell the roses" as they say. It made me appreciate nature so much more, having fresh air to breathe and a nice environment to walk in as well as have a supportive community.
I found all this and more in Kilifi. For a city girl, It's quite a small town, not a lot going on...but the beach is breath-taking, we are surrounded by nature and the people are very friendly. I decided to settle down here and I am building a community where like minded people can not only co-exist but help each other live to their fullest while contributing positively to the community and the world in general. I want to create a co-living/ co-working community for nomadic people who are looking for a sense of community and contribution.
I have 2.5 acres of fantastic bushland filled with all sorts of birds, insects and local vegetation which I would like to transform into a gorgeous home and safe space for people to connect. Most people get around on motorbike taxis (boda boda) and my place is about 15 minutes from town and the beach, and there are lots of places to explore nearby e.g Vuma Cliffs, Arabuko Sokoke forest. It is also 10 minutes away from the Kilifi New Year festival site , Beneath the Baobabs. The festival is quite popular and attracted 5,000 people last year. Kilifi town is quite central since it is about 1.5 hours from Mombasa (the second biggest city in Kenya). Malindi and Watamu town are also less than an hour away and Lamu Island is about a 4 hour drive away. You can book local flights from Malindi and international flights from Mombasa. There are also direct shuttles from the SGR train station in Mombasa, night buses to and from Nairobi, making traveling quite easy,Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
Kilifi has a lot to offer culturally as it is still mostly a "village". Most people speak Kiswahili so it would be a great opportunity to learn the language and experience local customs e.g. visiting the Kaya (sacred grounds for the Mijikenda tribe) , learning weaving using banana and sisal leaves, Mijikenda dances and social events like weddings (the villagers usually invite everyone). PLEASE NOTE It is still quite a conservative place with a high Muslim population so you are encouraged to dress modestly in the villages and around town, however, they are quite tolerant of foreigners so you can wear bikinis at the beach or dress how you like in tourist establishments. You can also try the local cuisines which are quite affordable and tasty. Coastal food has a lot of Arabic and Indian influences, not to mention coconut is readily available!
We have a vibrant creative and electronic music scene. You can go out for sunset beach walks, karaoke, a fun night out and meet people for social activities like games night, movie night, sip and paints etc. If you love ocean sports we have a Kite surfing school as well as sailing, diving classes etc. Lots of people love snorkelling and exploring the creek.
I love socializing with people and having nice chats or a good laugh and I hope to connect with more wonderful people! I believe we all have so much more in common than we have differences and I believe in kindness and spreading love!Proyectos con niños

I need help with landscaping and growing an organic garden on about 1 acre. I would love to have some chickens, ducks, etc so any knowledge of that would be great. The space is still quite bare and needs some furniture and general interior designing. I would love to make the whole space feel very home, comfortable and welcoming. Artists and other creatives are very very welcome. Social media enthusiasts would be a god-send! Basically, if you have a skill and a good vybe, I need you!
NEED HELP WITH:
a) sustainable building practices ESPECIALLY earthen houses, thatched roofs etc
b) gardening
c) permaculture and organic farming
d) DIY
e) social media and hospitality...or
f) ...if you have a sturdy set of hands and a positive attitude and would like to help us build or with general tasks...you are very welcome!
I usually hire casual workers per day to help with the manual intensive labour e.g. digging and clearing the bushland, but I am very hands-on as well. We will all work together, not me just giving orders and waving my sceptre haha!Idiomas

I can offer you a two person safari tent with a mattress, fan and bedding. Shared bathroom and kitchen facilities. 3 vegetarian meals a day and clean filtered drinking water. We usually go shopping together for the week and I will cover the cost for those basic meals e.g. rice, bread, vegetables, lentils etc. Any additional items e.g. meat, snacks, alcohol, cheese etc will be yours to buy.
There is a lot of space for you to self camp if you have your own equipment and I would like to start a garden so we can grow our own food, if you are staying for long!Algo más...
You MUST be able to take care of your financial needs during your stay here e.g. transport outside working hours, doctor's visits or any other such extra-curricular expenses.
In terms of religion or politics, I strongly believe in letting people live according to their own beliefs as long as they do not harm others.
Zero-tolerance policy in regards to sexism, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia or any other such biases and disrespect to other people or to the local community.
I do not have "rules" apart from being respectful of living with others e.g. cleaning up after yourself and respecting people's things and space.
Smoking is allowed outside but be careful not to litter cigarette butts. We are in a bushland and it is extremely dry now so beware of fires. Littering of any form is not tolerated.
The property shares a gate and open boundary road with my friend and neighbour. Please DO NOT TRESPASS TO HER SIDE WITHOUT PERMISSION.Un poco más de información
