*Due to the issues with the COVID-19 virus we ask that whoever wants to come to have been NOT exposed to anyone, to have been either QT at home for over 14 days or a way to QT BEFORE coming here. IF your family has had it or you have been around anyone who has had it DO NOT APPLY . This not only due to the fact n one here wants the virus BUT this facility has to keep operating with animals to feed and provide care. They depend on us to keep them fed and healthy. We will feed you well, we are like a family and care for each other so care for us and if there is even a remote chance of you bringing it here don't apply**
We are a nonprofit horse rehabilitation center that offers rescue, education on equine care, volunteering, community service, owner assistance programs. We teach those wanting to learn all aspects of equine care. We need hands on to help with projects we are working on to complete fencing, arena tasks and more. Would love to have some energetic people that want to make a difference in horses lives here. We maintain a 5 day workaway week with consistent barn hours. Most days will consist of barn chores for the first part of the day with routine horse management. The availability of a lesson in the afternoon on days Kim(head trainer) is here for those wanting to learn. Evening feed is typically 1 hour to finish. We give plenty of time off through the day to rest, go tour, watch tv, study, and we also arrange when able for more time off to go visit museums, lunches out etc.
If you say you are going to come here and your plans change please let us know. Don't leave a Host hanging when we need to make arrangements for your visit. Contact us a week before arrival to make sure things have not changed if we don't speak often.
1–Someone who is good at construction, handyman type, able to help with outside tasks on fence--helping set posts and stretch wire, someone to help pull out old fence, and more. Someone who knows tools, can follow outlined project, help with things such as weed whacking/mowing. We may not get into large projects but need help moving panels and setting things up for the horses, small repairs/installation.
2–Someone willing to do basic chores such as helping sweep barn & mucking, help with feed times, cleaning, sorting, organizing, pretty much all the little things that help keep a facility running. Perhaps someone who would like to cook occasionally? You can also learn about horses while you help--please realize you will not be doing hands on with the horses unless asked to by Staff until you fully learn the system at the barn.

Offering a volunteer position to learn about equine care, rehabilitation, medical. Horse experience is a plus although not needed. Upon arrival at the facility you will be given forms to fill out, our handbook which will give you direction on how most of the things are run here along with our Dress Code, etc.
Dress Code is basically modest dress. No low cut tops--ladies please make sure when bending over your not exposing/hanging out, no short shorts inside or outside house, no see through tops, jeans up in the back so under garments not showing, no skin tight clothes (English breeches are fine) We are trying to set an example to those who come here for many reasons a standard for our facility. We ask that you respect our no alcohol and drugs policy.
We maintain a 6 day week with consistent barn hours. You will spend your first day or two acclimating to the facility so do not worry that you are not "diving" into working. No one person can get it all in a short period of time here. There is much to running a facility such as ours. We do ask that you have patience and also be flexible. At times medical emergencies with horses or other issues take priority over say "washing a bucket".
*** IF YOU ARE A NIGHT OWL OR CANT BE IN ROUTINE TO GET UP AT 6AM THEN PLEASE DO NOT APPLY. WE DONT HAVE THE ABILITY TO WAIT ON PEOPLE WHO CANT GET UP OR WHEN DO ARE CRANKY AND CANT FUNCTION********
Help at the Barn--someone who can help with cleaning, scrubbing buckets, sweeping, organizing supplies & unpacking them when shipped in, learn about feeding horses and whats required to maintain them. This is not a hands on position unless specifically discussed before hand and after arrival with Staff to determine your ability to help around horses. ALL new volunteers are required to go through a learning process about the facility, how it is run and to work together as a TEAM.
Be able to take instructions from Staff and others who have been here for longer period of time learning, this maintains the safety of volunteers and horses. If another volunteer has been here longer you may be taking instructions from them since they know the routine

We now have a room for the guys and one for the girls. Dorm type room so yes you may be sharing with 1-2 others. Bathroom in the hall (your required to keep presentable to public) Meals, snacks. WiFi, cable tv. Laundry and bathroom supplies provided. We ask that you adhere to our dress code ( we can send it to you to read if you like before hand along with a list of things that we advise you bring). When out of your room we ask that you dress accordingly and also respect that others may be sleeping if you are an early riser (gotta have that cup of java before work) and do so quietly to allow others their rest.
If you want to cook please discuss with Staff where things are located. We keep plenty of food on hand to make sure people are fed, even Vegan/Vegetarian foods.
We do have dogs in house so must be able to live with them. Please do not yell at them. If they are invading your space tell us, they are not to sleep in the bedrooms. They are very loving and like to cuddle. Also two house cats.
We can not accommodate additional dogs, horses or pets. We can not host those with children OR couples. Thank you for understanding.
NO smoking in the house. We have an area for volunteers that do smoke.
No alcohol or drugs on property. Please respect this policy as we would respect you in your home.
Can arrange for transportation to visit Oklahoma City, etc. We are like a family here and treat each other with respect. This is a calm relaxing place to be. We do not allow alcohol or drugs on the property or people to come back here under the influence. We enjoy helping others to learn about what we do here.
