***Minimum stay is one month, if it works for both sides, volunteers are encouraged to stay 3-6 months***

🌿 About our place: We are a second-generation, female-led farm located in Coxilha Rica in the south of Brazil, a region known for its wide open landscapes, rolling hills, and strong Gaucho traditions. Life here is deeply connected to nature and animals, with beautiful views in every direction.

Our farm is home to cattle, horses, dogs, cats, pigs, and chickens, and we also run a horse training centre focused on ethical horsemanship and bitless riding. Throughout the year, we welcome guests for clinics, events, and rural experiences, which makes the farm a lively place with people coming from many different parts of the world.

We live quite remotely (about 1 hour by car from the nearest city, Lages, with no public transport) but the peace, space, and scenery more than make up for it. I live here together with three local staff involved in the daily farm activities. Augusto is my right hand on the farm, taking care of the cattle and other livestock, keeping daily operations running and fixing all sorts of things. His son Gustavo also often helps with whatever is needed on the days when he is not in school. Silvia mainly works in and around the house and our guests, including cleaning, cooking delicious food and she always has a good Portuguese expression to teach you. Sometimes, we have external staff coming to support with larger groups or when big things need fixing. Overall, life at the farm is dynamic and you will meet many different locals and visitors from abroad during your stay.

    🌎 Location & surroundings:

Coxilha Rica is rural, quiet, and stunning. Lages is about 4 hours by bus from Florianópolis, and I go to the city weekly for shopping and errands. Workawayers are always welcome to come along. This is a great place for those who enjoy nature, simplicity, and stepping away from busy city life.

🐎 What you can learn & experience:

Workawayers here have the chance to:
    - Learn Portuguese through daily life and interaction
    - Explore the natural surroundings on foot or horseback
    - Learn about ethical horsemanship, horse care, and training (including working with young or untrained horses)
    - Help in the vegetable garden and general farm projects
    - Meet people from all over the world during clinics and events
    - Exchange knowledge and experiences with guests, riders, and visitors

There is almost always something happening, and no two weeks are the same.

    🤝 Help & daily rhythm:

We mainly look for help with:
    - Horse care and training
    - Garden work
    - Receiving guests
    - General farm tasks

If you enjoy photography, video, marketing, or social media, your contribution is very welcome as well.

Our usual rhythm is horses in the mornings, followed by other activities in the afternoons. We value shared responsibility, so cleaning and taking care of personal spaces is expected, as in any shared living environment.

🌱 Who this place is for:

This place is ideal for Workawayers who:
    - Love animals, especially horses
    - Are curious, hands-on, and not afraid of rural life
    - Enjoy being part of a working farm
    - Appreciate ethical, respectful approaches to animals and people
    - Are open to cultural exchange and community living

  • Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Cultural exchange happens naturally through daily life on the farm. Workawayers live and work alongside me and our local Brazilian team, sharing tasks, meals, conversations, and routines. This creates an immersive experience in Portuguese language, rural Brazilian life, and Gaucho culture.

Because we regularly host guests, clinics, and events, Workawayers also meet people from different regions of Brazil and from around the world, allowing for rich exchanges of ideas, skills, and experiences (especially around horsemanship and life with animals).

I’m happy to share knowledge about ethical horsemanship and bitless riding, horse care and training, and the rhythms of farm life. In return, I enjoy learning from Workawayers’ different cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, and value open-mindedness, curiosity, and mutual respect.

  • Ayuda

    Ayuda

We are looking for Workawayers who enjoy being active and involved in daily farm life. Most help is hands-on and shared, and tasks vary depending on the season, weather, and what’s happening on the farm.

The main areas of help include:
    - Caring for and help with horses, including daily care and, for those with experience, assisting with training in an ethical, calm, and bitless approach
    - Help in the vegetable garden and helping with general outdoor tasks
    - Receiving and assisting guests during stays, clinics, and events
    - General farm help that are part of maintaining a working rural property

We usually work with the horses or cattle in the mornings, and other activities happen in the afternoons. Tasks are often done together, allowing space for learning, exchanging skills, and understanding how the farm functions as a whole.

If you enjoy photography, video, marketing, or content creation, you are very welcome to contribute by documenting life on the farm or helping with our social media. Note that this is completely optional but appreciated.

A basic level of independence, responsibility, and willingness to help with everyday shared tasks (such as keeping personal spaces clean) is expected. More than specific skills, we value interest, respect for animals, and a positive, collaborative attitude.

I speak Portuguese and English, and I also have a basic level of German. I’m very happy to help Workawayers learn Portuguese through daily conversation and farm life, and I enjoy improving my English and/or German in exchange.

  • Alojamiento

    Alojamiento

Workawayers stay in a small, private apartment on the farm, with their own bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. It’s a comfortable and quiet space to rest, and there’s also a desk if you need to work or study.

We have Starlink Wi-Fi, and in winter the apartment is heated with a small wood stove, which makes it especially cozy. You’re very welcome to use the shared spaces in the main house as well (TV, snooker table, etc.), and we often end up sharing meals and time together there.

Most of the time, Workawayers cook their own meals. I go to town once a week and bring groceries with me, so we’ll plan that together. Just let me know ahead of time if you have any food allergies or special dietary needs.

  • Algo más...

    Algo más...

Life here is slow, rural, and close to nature. In your time off, most people enjoy simple things: walking the hills, spending time with the animals, reading, taking photos, resting, or just enjoying the quiet surroundings. Depending on experience and what’s happening on the farm, there may also be opportunities to spend time with the horses.

We’re quite remote, with no public transport, so this is a good place for people who are happy staying mostly on the farm. I go to town once a week, and you’re always welcome to come along if you need anything or just want a change of scenery.

I appreciate people who are easy to live with, communicate openly, and take responsibility for shared spaces and agreed tasks. This isn’t a party place, it’s more about calm days, meaningful work, and being present in a beautiful environment. However, we will never say no to a cold beer after a long day ;)

Important to note: The food in this region is heavily meat-based and at times we also slaughter in-house. Brazilian churrasco is a regular occurrence and you need to at least be comfortable around meat consumption. If you are vegetarian, we can always find a solution. For vegans, it can be very difficult to find sufficient protein alternatives here. Just warning you that you might have to eat a lot of feijão (beans). ;)

If this sounds like your kind of place, you’ll probably feel very comfortable here.

We have Starlink Wi-Fi and a desk in the private apartment, and the farm is usually quiet enough to work online. That said, we live in a rural area, and during heavy rain or storms we sometimes have power cuts. These usually last only a couple of hours, but in rare cases we may be without power or internet for a day or two. It’s good to keep this in mind if you depend on a very stable connection. The daily rhythm, horses in the mornings and other tasks in the afternoons, generally allows enough flexibility to combine help here with remote work, as long as expectations are clear and communication is open.
