… read more very kind and friendly old man, and even though Kari-anne and I only spend a few days together, I can surely say the same of her.
Røst is a very particular and amazing archipelago, which I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to experience! Boat rides, astonishing islands and very friendly-intrigating people everywhere. A little bubble in Norway and in nowhere - here, the silence has no price.

I stayed just at the beginning of October and i cannot begin to describe how beautiful this stay was, really and truly as a first experience in Norway & being surrounded by such kind, warm hearted people. it really was something special. There's no place I've ever been to quite like Røst. They make you feel at home so quickly.

… read more everyone there works so hard the farm has a calm and relaxing feel to it, stunning sunrise and sunsets, and if you stay around long enough outside at night you may catch the Aoura.
I had bonded with the animals also and they're so lovely. I miss this place so much already, and it's people.
I'd like to say a huge Thankyou to Kari-Anne & Steiner, everyone there. For always looking out for me and making feel so involved in the community.

How to start?
I spent one month last July in Kari-Anne and Steinar farm and this is an unforgettable experience.
From day 1 I felt included and responsible of what I was doing at the farm. We worked as a team and I felt both supported and managed and also free to take initiatives on my own. I would say this is the perfect mix to learn and enjoy

Kari-Anne is "true" and I also felt free to be myself. We had a lot of funny time and laughed a lot.
In conclusion, it was good combinaison between working hard and fell useful in always good atmosphere and mood.
About the work I was taking care of the sheep that stay at the farm (feeding, cleaning) and the 3 dogs (including training the puppy shelter dog). I did a lot harvest the hay (cutting, drying and stocking). I also helped to prepare the food festival in Trondheim to promote the delicious food they produce on this island, I have painted banners and stands. And I helped with inhouse tasks (cooking, cleaning). Again, about all we did time flown and I never felt at work. Kari-Anne loves her job and she is still inspiring me a lot today.
NB: food at the Querini restaurant is amazing.

Last November I stayed a month at Kari-Anne's place. I felt at home at her place right away. Maybe because there are no t many rules in her house so there's not much you can do wrong. At the start I needed to get used a bit that there was often no planning for the day at all. However it was a good lesson to just relax and see what will happen. &We
… read more did happen to do a lot of amazing beatiful boatrips through the little islands surrounding Røst on which the sheep live. It was necessary to sometimes communicate with help of gestures and a bit of humor as the older sheepfarmer Steinar doesn't speak a lot of English. However, when I was alone at the farm for a few days we managed just fine together feeding the animals and doing other tasks around the farm. I can definitely recommend experiencing island live with Kari-anne on Røst. She will be a great host showing and taking you around. Just don't forget that the island is small, so if your into big city life you might feel isolated here. Furthermore, I'm really sorry and disappointed I wasn't able to muck out the barn before I left as I promised to do. Hope the kingcat is fixed and that you have worker(s) to help out with the "shitty" job.

I spent 4 weeks on the farm and i had a great time! Røst is a amazing, very very special place, beautiful, quiet and social. Kari-Anne was very kind, i felt welcomed and there was allways a good atmosphere. I was there during the lambing season so there was a lot of work to do. I did feeding, picking seaweed for the sheep, changing water,
… read more bottlefeed the newborns, and a lot of other things. I learned a lot about sheeps, lambing and farming in general. It was a lot of fun with the little lambs and the other animals around. The island is very small, and there are limited possibilities for freetime activities, but its great to just hike around, take pictures, play with the lambs, and just enjoy this great place itself. The others working on the farm were also very nice, not everybody was speaking english but somehow it's allways possible to communicate... As well I got to meet some of kari-annes friends and other peoples from the island. Also Røst is the island of amazing sunsets and I was lucky to be there in a period were I could still watch northern lights but also bright evenings with amazing colors in the sky.
But the most intense experience during the time were the boat trips. We once brought some sheep to the islands and I also had the chance to join the fishing boat what was super cool. We left the habour at 6 o clock in a beautiful sunrise, drove through a labyrinth of tiny islands, passed the stunning bird rocks towards the open sea, until røst was nothing but a thin line on the horizon. Just the ocean around.
