We run a small charity, striving to improve the life chances of Maasai children and their communities in a very very remote part of Northern Tanzania. Our projects include sponsoring children to go to school, building cookers chimneys in houses, bore holes and water wells and occasionally renovating classrooms.
The charity has been in this area for over twelve years and has forged real, deep friendships with the local community. Our charity is based in Loliondo, a small Maasai town, very few properties have running water, some now have electricity, though this is intermittent. We shower with buckets and jugs, and our main entertainment is sitting chatting by torch light.
We need volunteers to speak good English to the sponsored children who live in our hostel, to teach our staff and children computer skills, to help with general chores around the hostel and to help in the fields where we grow a wide variety of vegetables to give to the children.
The accommodation will be provided by our Maasai manager, who is not only delightful and friendly but is also a brilliant cook. Travellers will also have the opportunity to integrate with the Maasai people, learn about their culture and spend nights in houses, singing and chatting around an open fire,Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje
Travellers will learn first hand about Maasai culture, have the opportunity to visit many Maasai villages and to experience the beauty of real Africa. Those who wish to, can learn to speak Maasai and Swahili and to learn the difference between the two varied cultures.
Because of the close, long time relationship we have with the Maasai people, the travellers will be welcomed with open arms. This is a unique and life changing experience.Proyectos con niños

Ayuda
We would like our travellers to teach English to our sponsored children by reading books, playing games, singing and dancing. The children go to a local school during the day and stay in a boarding house, run by our charity at night. We also need people who can teach computer skills to our staff, or who would like to work in the fields tending the vegetables that we grow for the children. Most of all, we would love to welcome people who are happy to fit in with the Maasai children and staff.

Accommodation provided will be a brick house with a modern bed, intermittent electricity supply and running water. Water and alternative lighting is always available but the ability to charge equipment such as mobile phones is varied. Wifi network is available but very unreliable.
The travellers will have the opportunity to stay in one of our Maasai houses to get a feel of how the Maasai people live.
You will be made most welcome in Maasai manager, Salome’s house. She will provide full board and lodging and will always be available to take care of you and to answer any questions that the traveller may have about life in Northern Tanzania.
She is a fantastic cook and you will experience real African and Maasai culture.Algo más...
The area around Loliondo, in Northern Tanzania, is stunning. It is on the edge of The Serengeti National Park and the Kenyan border. There are plenty of beautiful hills to climb and gorgeous walks. Nearby is the town of Wasso which has several local bars and lots of African shops selling local produce.
On Fridays there is a Maasai market in Wasso. This is the highlight of the week for everyone and is wonderful to experience.
If travellers would like to visit real Maasai villages this can be arranged without any problem. Safaris to the Serengeti can also be organised as the Serengeti National Park is only about three hours drive from Loliondo.Un poco más de información
