  We are a couple who have recently moved to the beautiful Lorinna valley in North West Tasmania/Lutruwita. We have a property of 3.5 hectares which has an orchard, a vegetable garden, and areas of bushland, with part of the land bordering on a river. Lorinna borders Lake Cethana, which has been dammed for hydro-electricity, and is a heavily forested location with small rural properties. The houses in Lorinna are entirely off-grid and it is a friendly community with many families home schooling their children. We are growing fruit and vegetables using organic and permaculture principles and regenerative practices for our home use and aim to re-establish the bushland on our property.
  
  Currently, there is no produce sold from our place, and Workawawyers will only be helping towards our private home and garden.
  
  We are also caring for the current orchard of fruit and nut trees and planting a small cider apple and hops section for home brewing. Jason, previously a chef, bakes sour dough and we are also dedicated to preserving and fermenting our produce. We have a nine year old border collie-kelpie cross called Sidney, a number of chickens and a goose. Sharyn was previously an English, History and Music teacher and is passionate about preserving the local flora; Jason taught Science, Nutrition and Home Economics.

  There are a number of activities we are involved in which workaways can taken part in such as yoga and Landcare. Sharyn is also part of the Wildcare Cradle Mountain group and a local drumming circle and Jason volunteers with the Tasmanian Fire Service. For us, being here is not just about our own personal satisfaction but also about welcoming people into our home and having them experience all that is to offer here. We are keen travellers and enjoy meeting people from a variety of countries and cultural backgrounds and learning from their diverse experiences. Education is important to us and we are keen to build understanding and share any skills or knowledge.

  As a workaway you will be involved in various tasks such as helping out in the kitchen and garden, pruning fruit trees and harvesting produce, fencing, splitting and stacking firewood and helping to restore the native vegetation through weed management and planting. We will be doing tasks together but at times you may also be helping out independently. We also have a number of projects that workaways can assist with such as building a pizza oven and an outdoor bath.

  Alojamiento

  Our quirky home is a timber construction on a number of levels. We have a slow combustion heater and a wood stove for cooking on in the kitchen two bedrooms available in an area of the house for workaways. People may also stay in our large tent on a picturesque part of the property if they wish to. Meals are based around the food harvested from the garden and we cater to vegetarians. Workaways will share dinner with us and can help themselves to food for breakfast and lunch.

  Cradle Mountain National Park is only an hour away and it has magnificent walks. Workaways are also welcome to borrow our camping tent if they wish to do an overnight hike. However, in the immediate vicinity of Lorinna there are also some lovely walks, while the river and the nearby lake offer opportunities for swimming and kayaking. We have two cars and a number of bikes which can be used.
