I believe we are the first workaway guests to arrive at Stephanie's place since the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Boy, did it do a number on her property! We came to help and were very glad to be of assistance at a time when there was an overwhelming amount of tasks to complete in order to restore her farm. Stephanie is a real trooper and
… read more incredibly strong. Farm work is tough work! It's amazing how she has been able to keep up with raising her sons and taking care of all the animals, while also sustaining an injury. We had a few glitches in communication (in terms of how to get certain things done), but in the end it was a very productive week. Some of the jobs we did: clear/muck out the barn, carry wheelbarrow loads to the compost bin, fix several wheelbarrows and tools/equipment that were not functional, fix some gates, doors and electrical issues, cut and move bamboo, prepare for concrete pouring and mix cement, rescue trees and fencing that was swept downstream during the storm, planting of over 50 starter shrub rootings- we hope they take!- to stop erosion, cut many trees and fallen limbs, stack and move wood piles, fix an outhouse, set up a future garden perimeter, mount posts, groom the property near the camper and fix some of the hiking trails. We wish her all the best and that the property be blessed with good renters and great helpers! Hopefully, someone will donate a bridge so she can drive over the gouged-out creek safely and securely very soon! In the meantime, there are solar lights and a walking path over the battered bridge that was partially put in place for passage between the house and farm. We learned a lot about farming, got to see the goats frolic around, and especially enjoyed the display of the beautiful peacock that was trying to find a mate by shaking his feathers at the hens. (He didn't have any luck ;) ).

I spent a week with Stephanie and the guys and had a great time helping out in the veggie garden etc. The food was amazing and I was accomodated in a trailer, which may not always be the case, but I really appreciated it. The area is truly amazing!! Thank you Stephanie for taking me on several hikes with Nacho and the other dogs, for showing me

During our year in Asheville, my partner and I did some work for Stephanie- Mostly caring for goats, petsitting, yard work and housekeeping.
She's a wonderful, considerate, creative & compassionate person. Her sons are cool people too :)
I always felt appreciated- It was more like helping out a friend than working for an employer. She deserves a

Thank you Stephanie and The Lads. It was a great time spent with you. I loved having a few projects to work on and thank you for your patience. Your generosity in my comfort (warmth and food) was much appreciated. Asheville is a lovely town I really appreciated this experience, even though I could only stay a short time.
Best wishes for all the

Loic was a pleasure to have here. He is courteous and respectful while being a great conversationalist. He is a hard worker with good skills. He built us a handrail for our upstairs attic. He made us all crepes one night when the neighbors wanted to meet him. Loic was a treasure of a friend when my dog suddenly died.He helped with so many things,

I can't recommend enough Stéfanie's home for the workaways willing to help. So if you're a lazy looking for free accomodation.. Pass your way.
The place is stunning and very quiet, I will always remember the friendly neighborhood who could talked french with me. The sons are quite independent, Cyrus wich is the youngest, cooked a chili con carne

On the first day we've been at Eric's place for a special axe throwing event, cooked crêpes two days later with the neighbors, we also went out to restaurant, café, or just to groceries.
Stéfanie was always happy to give me a lift to downtown and asked me anytime how was my stay, and cared about my comfort.
I never felt more useful as a volunteer than here. On my two weeks stay I could had fix fences for the chickens, goats, dogs and if I may say human too as I fixed a railing. The work was easy, It goes from feeding animals to take care of the house, choping wood, gardening. Stéfanie is a very busy mother, and was open minded for the ideas I had, she was also keen to give me initiative and bought an expensive special mask to protect me from thin particules even after I said that I didn't needed it.
I'll always remember my time in Asheville, and send to Stéphanie and her family my deepest sympathy for the loss of Tili.
Thanks for this awesome stay.Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.
