We are substantially involved with the Japanese community in Nozawa and the help we asking for offers the opportunity for interaction with local Ryokan owners, various interest groups, and locals in general. Cultural awareness is a very important point for our foreign workers, and in this regard we have a number of Japanese working with us.

We have a range of accommodation requiring management and cleaning. There are existing hands-on managers with overall responsibility of co-ordinating guests and the general running of the business, and these managers require assistance with day to day duties. Although the hours of responsibilities will vary day to day, the aggregate work hours per week will not exceed 5 days. The successful applicants will be offered staff accommodation. Applications open in October each year and staff is needed generally between early Dec and early Feb (though may be longer in some cases). The work provides generous time to get on the slopes and offers close proximity. No more than 35 hours per week is required and hours are significantly less on days where there are no guest check-ins.

Staying in the village is a substantial learning experience for those wishing to immerse in the Japanese culture.

Nozawa Onsen is an 1100 year old village with many of the local family being here for generations . It is dotted with temples and art hubs in nearby towns .

Nozawa Onsen is probably the most famous Onsen village in Japan, with people coming here all year round to soak in the re generative baths. World famous snow monkeys, are also only an hour away. As for food , well soba from this area is the best in Japan.

We would like a couple to assist the Manager with general oversight of the lodges. The couple would assist with keeping common areas clean and tidy, liaising with guests, snow shovelling pathways when needed, and helping with bags upon guest arrival/departure.

Work times vary depending on guest arrivals and departures but is basically a few hours each day on average. However the cumulative hours will be no more than 5 days per week. Free time can be used to ski and/or snowboard or simply take in the fabulous local culture.

A valid Japanese work visa is mandatory.

On your days-off you can ski or snowboard or travel to nearby villages to explore the region. Nozawa Onsen is about 3-4 hours by train from Tokyo. It is also less than an hour away from the snow monkeys. Eat lots of Japanese food and enjoy the Japanese people and their culture. Our business has a strong history with the village locals and this placement offers opportunities for significant local interaction and cultural awareness.

Nozawa Onsen is known for its many onsen baths - the perfect way to end a day on the slopes.
The position for the winter ski season end of November to late Feb. Please note that the end date may vary earlier or later depending on the season's snow quality (i.e. lack of snow will force early closures in some cases and vice versa for good seasons).
