Sarah was an absolute joy to host. She willingly and enthusiastically helped out with lots of little jobs that never quite seem to make it to the top of the priority list and it feels sooooooo good to have them done! The quinta is looking much tidier and happier due to her help. She did lots of weeding in the veg garden and in various flower beds,

Thank you so much Sarah, we'd love to welcome you back sometime x

It was my first workaway experience with Sophie and Rui and I was overwhelmed by this beautiful spot and the way of life. The 3 horses, at times 7 dogs and several cats have probably the best life in the world. Almost 10 days I was allowed to be there before my journey continued. I could let off steam freely in the garden with weeding, planting

I really enjoyed working for Sophie! The spot she's living on is incredibly beautiful, and there was all kinds of work to do, so it never got boring. The caravan I was sleeping in was so cozy and the food always was really great! Sophie really made myself feel welcome there and even showed me around the area a bit. I'd definitely recommend her

Kea was great fun to have around, and happy to work independently to complete a much needed task (weeding the sand school) during her stay here. Kea happened to arrive just as the builders did to make a new bathroom, so we had no proper washing facilities whilst she was here. Kea was understanding and adapted cheerfully to the situation even

We intended to stay at Sophies for a week but ended up being there for 5 months! A testiment to the lovely time we had there. Her quinta is gorgeous and her plans for self-suffiency and facilitating horse/human relationships are inspiring. It was great to spend time helping her make her dreams a reality and living communally with her and other

Her knowledge and experience of natural horsemanship is super interesting and her horses were a joy to get to know and live alongside.
Sophie is a great person to immerse yourself in Quinta life with. There is always something on the go - never a dull moment! From making a worm tank and refurbishing her house to caring for the garden and horses there is always plenty to get stuck into.
She welcomes you into her life with open arms and really embraces spontaneity, collaboration and FOOD!!
I would totally recommend a stay with her.Solo puedes ponerte en contacto con workawayers con membresías activas.

I loved cooking for Sophie, and volunteers Guy, and Hanna during my 3 week stay. In spite of cold, wet weather most of the time, we managed to keep busy and share a lot of our own experiences. Teaching Equine Calming Technique and helping with some equine therapy was a joy. Sophie is open and flexible, allowing volunteers to choose from among

Barbara is just a joy to have around. She's taken on the super important and much appreciated role of feeding us all every day with her amazing cooking, and looked after all the washing up and cleaning / tidying. She's done some calming technique therapy with the horses, helped in the gardens, is very generous with her time, her listening ear, and

She's fitted so easily into life - and how it constantly changes - here, the basic facilities haven't phased her, and she's been a most excellent and much-loved part of our little "quinta family". THANK YOU Barbara xxx

What does it mean to be passionate about horses? Is the passion for horses something you are born with? Is it something that develops over time? Sophie’s horses are her world, she lives for her horses. She always has their best interests at heart and seems to always think about them, she loves to talk about horses and really understands the
… read more philosophy behind their actions. I noticed on her bookshelf the number of books she had based on the physiology and psychology of their behaviour. I arrived with a fear of horses from being chased by a mare when I was a child. I couldn’t even go near them. Within 24 hours with Sophies guidance I was able to stroke them, feed them and even attempted to put on their harness... upside down needless to say! But her patience and theirs was awesome! The work at the Quinta was very flexible and changed daily and I liked that. It was often dependent on the weather.
Sophie is a Generous, kind, thoughtful host who is really organised, patient and loves a good tick list. I would highly recommend her place to all future volunteers.
The list below outlines some of the things I was involved with whilst staying with her.
Breakfast in bed for Sophie as she had a cold and stiff neck
Decorated temporary kitchen, painted the ceiling and walls
Moved furniture into the temporary kitchen
Mucked out the horse stables
Put horses into paddocks overcoming my fear of horses.
Picked up horse poo from paddocks
Helped neighbour load up his trailer with horse poo
Stacked straw bails
Constellation
Clearing weeds from newly planted trees
Creating dams around newly planted trees so that they would hold water
Driving Sophie to local shops & market to buy trees. As her car was in the garage.
Foraged mushrooms, figs
Cooked a variety of vegetarian foods
Met and socialised with ex pats over lunch at the local market.
Sketched out designs onto caravan based on Sophie’s pets, horses, dogs and cats.
Took the horses for a walk
Looked after the horses, dogs and cat whilst Sophie had a night off.
Olive picking
Baked cakes

Amanda's visit was mostly about painting a SHAMAZING (as she would say!) mural on my caravan, which I absolutely adore. It is soooo much more than I was expecting or hoped for, she really understood - and went beyond - what I tried to explain to her that I wanted. She is an amazing artist. My only regret is we didn't have enough time for her to

In addition to the mural, here's a list of other help Amanda gave me, all of which was very much appreciated. Amanda was super easy and fun to have around but don't let her feet get cold (she is NOT happy when she has cold feet LOL).
