 - Descripción- Welcome to Our Little Oasis in Spain!
Hello! We’re Doug and Ines, a multicultural couple living in a natural haven near Madrid. I’m Ines, a German teacher and business/life coach, born and raised in Spain. My husband, Doug, is American, and we met 40 years ago during his globe-trotting adventures. Together, we’ve created a cozy home filled with good vibes, love for nature, and respect for diversity.
Our home is surrounded by a yard of 1000 m², complete with a natural pool, visiting birds, occasional cats, and three friendly dogs. We even have a happy chicken who roams freely! While we adore our oasis, life gets busy, and we could use a little help restoring its full charm.
Doug is early retired due to health issues, so while he’s not the best at heavy yard work, he’s a fantastic cook and BBQ master. I work full-time teaching students worldwide and coaching clients, which leaves me little time for gardening or pool maintenance. We’d love your help to bring our yard and natural pool back to their former glory.
 What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a friendly and respectful individual, couple or families, who enjoys working outdoors. Tasks may include:
 Tidying and maintaining the yard
Helping with the gardening and creating a welcoming outdoor space
Your positive attitude and love for nature matter most to us!
 What We Offer
In exchange for your help, we provide:
Comfortable accommodation in our cozy home
 Delicious meals (Doug’s BBQ is a must-try!)
A serene natural setting to relax and unwind
The chance to experience Spanish culture and life in one of Spain’s most beautiful areas
We’re located near Nuevo Baztán, a charming historical town just a 20-minute walk away. Madrid is only 45 minutes by car or a little over an hour by bus, which runs every 30 minutes from a stop just 5 minutes from our home. Alcalá de Henares, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is only 30 minutes away by car.
 A Little About Us
We love nature, positive thinking, and good vibes.
I’m trilingual (German, Spanish, and English), but Doug is still working on his Spanish (with mixed results!).
We have three grown-up children: our eldest lives in Germany with her three kids, our son (24) is studying history and archaeology, and our youngest (20) works as a social assistant in a special-needs home.

 - Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje- I can offer spanish culture, german culture and american culture. I would love to speak in spanish, german or english . I ´m very open minded, love positive thinking, laughing, social sharing and very used to be with different types of cultures. My skills are obviously languages and the culture of Spain. I hope to learn more of your culture and maybe of your language too, why not. ;)
 - Proyectos con niños- En este proyecto podría haber niños. Para obtener más información, consulta nuestras directrices y consejos aquí.
 - Ayuda- I need to make this place look nice again, I need somebody who help me to clean the yard, fix up the natural pool, cut some bushes, all basic gardening , my youngest can introduce and tell how to do it. We can speak in spanish or german or english I also can speak a little french (A2) and italian
The help I need is very simple: gathering leaves in the garden, assisting with the ecological pool maintenance, and other light outdoor tasks. These activities would not even take four hours a day from Monday to Friday, as they would be completed much sooner.
Of course, Workawayers would never be working alone on these tasks there will always be professionals supervising and carrying out the more technical or specialized work. The idea is more about sharing the experience and enjoying nature while collaborating on small tasks.
Additionally, cultural exchange and learning are very important to me. I would love to share knowledge with Workawayers and offer them the opportunity to learn about life in a natural and sustainable environment.

 - Alojamiento- I have a 9 m2 room with a double bed and windows to the yard. We love to cook and grill all types of german, spanish or american meals. I also love bakkery but I have to control my diet . I don't like prepared meals, that's why I do batch cooking and prefer to freeze good meals so anyone can have in busy days some frozen meals.
We cook lots of good vegetables what I prefer, but also meat and fish. I try to eat very balanced.
 - Algo más...- This area is a very beautiful are for wandering and mountain bike, we have one bike to use, but is not the best bike. They rent e-bikes in the town for trips. There are two buses to Madrid and Alcalá de Henares and Nuevo Baztan is official one of the most beautiful towns in Spain. You can enjoy a lot of wandering paths in the area.
The dogs can't be alone in the yard because they would escape.

 - Podría aceptar mascotas- I accept every kind of animal, but please take in consideration I have a dog in training with special needs and cares because he was mistreated. He never had problems with other dogs at the house, but he needs his time to get use to and his time on his own. The other dogs are ok. Cats are not very loved for anyone of them but if you want to keep it in the room, I wont have a problem with it.
 - ¿Cuántos voluntarios puedes hospedar?- Más de dos
 - Mis animales / mascotas- Shiva - elderly Boxer with common age-related conditions such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, and mild incontinence. She’s calm, affectionate, and appreciates a gentle pace of life — and she absolutely loves to eat (a bit too much!) and sleep all day long. - Snoopy (1 año) - Snoopy is our baby boy — a mix of Jack Russell and Perro de Agua Andaluz (Spanish Water Dog). We adopted him from Sevilla. Just like his energetic ancestors, he’s very active and absolutely obsessed with sticks and playing fetch. He can be a little shy with new people at first, but once he feels your gentle and kind energy — or you take him for a walk and play with him — he’ll love you forever. - Tico (5 años) - Tico — our special case with the biggest heart.
He was found on the highway when he was about seven months old, and we adopted him soon after. When he came to us, he was almost a year old — full of fears, very territorial with his food and sleeping space (he probably had to fight for them before).
You just need to respect his “doggy rules” and take time to get to know him. Once you do, don’t let him jump on you — instead, go for walks and play with him, and he’ll absolutely love you.
Unfortunately, Tico tends to run away whenever he gets the chance, so he always needs to stay on a leash.

Their positive energy filled our home, and I was truly amazed at how they could work so hard—even in the mud!—and still keep smiling, laughing, and bringing humor into everything they did.
They got along beautifully with everyone—both two-legged and four-legged members of the household—and… read more
