Hi, I'm currently looking for a volunteer or two for the next two months (feb/March). I have some building work going on and would really like some help to look after the garden while I concentrate on tiling the roof - so lots of digging, clearing land, carting stuff about, I would also like someone who likes cooking - I will have a few friends and other potential volunteers here helping with the building work, so there will be a few mouths to feed and I would rather concentrate on the building!
I would expect 4.5 hours of help per day in exchange for accommodation (in the house) and food. I should point out that you would have to be ok living in a partial building site! The bedrooms are isolated from the dust hopefully, but I prefer to be upfront about the situation :-)

Hi, my name is Paul. I moved to Asturias in February 2013.
I'm set in roughly an acre of land on the side of a hill. The beach (playa de vega) is a nice stroll (35 mins) through forest and fields. The walk back from the beach is a gruelling slog that makes me swear after a couple of beers and is a challenge either way. There are great walks to be had up from the house too. I, and the dog are always happy to walk with you or show you some routes. The house is fairly isolated, about 10Km from the nearest town (Ribadesella) though there are buses (every two hours) close by. If you've never heard of Asturias, it's a beautiful, lush, green and mountainous coastline in the north of Spain.
My long term aim is to become more self-sustainable have a lovely little retreat centre.
And me, I'm a corporate drop out. Twelve years in an office felt like a lifetime so now I'm starting anew. It's horrible and it's hard and it's great and I love it. I haven't adjusted yet and am learning all the time. I'm open to all sorts and enjoy meeting people from varying backgrounds. Along with me, there are two cats and one dog, who is old and not great with other dogs.

I'm happy to share my insights into the local culture and when there's time, I like to take volunteers out to see some of the local sight too.

I need someone who has experience of using and maintaining a lawnmower and strimmer/brushcutter, as that would be the main task - keeping on top of the garden.
The first priority now is to get the house renovated and ready to live in , as well as the garden area, building more compost toilets and outdoor showers.

we stayed 10 days in Paul's house. the place is very beautiful and peaceful in the middle of the forest. the beach is 5 min by car and is perfect for surfing. it was very nice to meet Paul, he's very kind with his hosts, we recommand this experience.

I had a great summer experience with Bary, Irit and Daniel. Right from the start they were happy to throw themselves into any task no matter how mundane, and did it with enthusiasm and a smile.
Apart from the help they gave me they were also great company and we spent many evenings around the bbq.

What I would recommend about the area is to either bring a car or rent one, cause the place is surrounded not only by its amazing green environment but also by plenty of heritage, landscape, villages, beaches, day and nightlife. This was a great experience and we both feel we learnt a lot from working with Paul. The house is in a perfect location only half an hour down to the beach and with access to great walks and scenery in all directions. Our stay with Paul was a great couple of weeks. He is very welcoming and easy going. The first day we got to Pauls he took us round the local area visiting different beaches and little towns. The work was varied from day to day.

We would recommend a stay with Paul. He has a lovely place and great plans for it. He was a welcoming host and a great cook and we had a great stay. The area is lovely to explore with loads of things to do really near by.
