Hi, my name is Eber!
I manage a small family run farm in the fresh forest hills overlooking Pitalito town. I am looking for volunteers who want to learn how to care of animals helping out with feeding and taking care of calf and dogs.
The workaway will include preparing the food and feeding caring for the health of the animals and administering medicine, cleaning and upkeep, landscaping and field work, gardening and sometimes harvesting coffee and learning the whole process of roasting and grinding the beans so it will be ready for making a nice cup of coffee.
I will provide everything you need to help with the animals and require only three to five hours of your time throughout the day. In this time, I´ll be around to give guidance and show you the ropes. The rest of the time, we can do language exchange and any other activities like going to town, helping to teach English. etc.
By the way... we are not far away from San Agustin Huila. It is a small town and very famous for its heritage (The Archaeological Park). 20 Minutes away from Pitalito city, we can find the Guaitipan lake , which is very nice place to go and enjoy a great day out too.
We have basic rural accommodation on the farm, including private or sharing bedroom with beds and blankets, gas and wood kitchen, fridge, bathroom, shower and washing machine. We also have electricity and fresh spring water.
As it is a small farm, I can currently take two volunteers maximum at a time.
On the farm we have organically grown coffee, Oranges, lemons, Platano, Mangos and herbs. This means that there is plenty of fresh fruit hanging around to eat. Also, depending on the season, I can teach how to plant, nurture and gather this food.
If you work more than five hours, I will provide food for three daily meals also. Other opportunities that will be available include horticultural work (mentioned above), teaching English (I run a small school in Pitalito and speak fluent Engish).
If you have any questions, please message me.
I look forward to hearing from you… and so do the cows!

Volunteers will be staying in beautiful ranch overlooking the Pitalito valley and expect lots of fresh air, wildlife and tranquility.
They will also learn the practical "in and outs" of dairy cow farming, which is incredibly useful if they wish to build or manage a dairy farm themselves, not to mention the life noursishing experience.
We will also be practising growing the fruit and vegetables we have on the farm and learning about our simple, ecological and substainable way of living, precious skills and knowledge that can help people looking to build sustainable homes or communities of their own.
And of course, nurturing a relationship with the happy cows, becoming friends with them and understanding their quirky personalities. Beware: nobody can resist their charming ways!
Last but not least They can learn Spanish!

As I said, we have basic rural accommodation on the farm, including private bedroom with bed and blankets, gas and wood kitchen, fridge, bathroom and shower and watering hole for hand washing clothes. We also have electricity and fresh spring water. Food is generally not included.
There is public transport to and from the farm every hour from the centre of Pitalito.
There are forest paths around the farm, leading along the streams and up the mountain where there are many flowers and animals.
We are 40 minutes from San Augustin archeological park, where the remains of ancient, precolombian civilizations can be visited. The little town is quaint and picturesque with a buzzing cosmopolitan culture.

I would like to host somebody who can help with the things that need to be done around the house as well exchanging language and dealing with cows and things at the farm if needed. Great opportunity too.
Yes, we have space for camping and caravan parking too. Most welcome.
Maximum 3-5 hours a day, 5 days per week (but very flexible)
