Descripción
Our organization is a community-based not for profit organization that was created with a purpose to help the community deal with the growing HIV/AIDS epidemic. Its very first initiatives were to help the community members faced with this disease as well as to raise the awareness and educate the rest of the community about the prevention measures. Having experienced good response from the community, the organization then evolved and initiated a number of projects in the areas of microfinance/ table-banking, agriculture, women's cooperatives and support to children in need.
The objectives of the organization are:
-to eradicate illiteracy and ignorance of health through education,
-to increase food production for health and income through sustainable agriculture,
-to improve the health of the community members in both preventative and curative measures,
-to empower women and youth with emphasis on girl-child.
One of our main goals is to help women in Western Kenya manage their growing micro-businesses by providing hands-on mentorship and assistance. Volunteers will work side by side with the women we have in our program to achieve their business goals including helping the women with the following: Develop a business plan for expansion, Financial review and improvement of financial management, Develop marketing and sales strategies to increase sales, Identify strengths and needs of the participants in the program (in terms of equipment, skills, and language proficiency) Create a long-term, goal-setting, development plan with each woman entering the program.Tipos de ayuda y oportunidades de aprendizaje

We are looking forward to engage volunteers in a life-changing experience by volunteering at a HIV positive Women’s Socioeconomic Empowerment Project site.
Volunteers will be able to work directly with the women teaching reading, writing and math. Volunteers can also work with the women to help develop product and marketing ideas, business and financial management this involves topics addressing critical financial literacy issues. To start with women mentors and help in developing their financial literacy skills. Volunteers also to help in photography(taking photos of the fashion items made by women) and involves documenting (with photos) the progress of our community empowerment program for HIV affected women and children by sharing their stories and helping in finding sustainable solution in whatever we do, keeping alive our day to day activities on social media and whole-body wellness and empowerment.
Since our organization is still small, volunteers are also welcomed to help in writing Grant Proposals, fundraising and networking
We are also having a community farm where volunteers can help in doing farm work. Volunteers can work with our women farmers to provide training in improved farming techniques and compost making as well as business and marketing. You will have the chance to experience what life is like for subsistence farmers in Kenya
Volunteers will also be responsible in developing children activities, such as games, sports and also organize children camps.
Volunteers can also offer their help as a teacher and assist in a Pre-school and Primary school within our project site. Your input will be a great help and much appreciated as schools are often under staffed and lack resources. Experienced teachers are particularly welcome.Idiomas

We can accommodate up to eight volunteers, in most cases volunteers will have their own room, bed and bedding are provided and the house is well equipped with running water, Hot shower, electricity, unlimited access to internet and well equipped modern kitchen. However, at times there can be power outages throughout Kisumu, and this neighborhood is no exception. Please understand that life in Kenya is different from life in the Western Country and volunteers will not have the same amenities that they have at home. This experience is about being flexible and adaptable to new conditions.
A typical breakfast consists of Kenyan chai tea and bread and jam or pancakes or eggs. Cereal is also available in the local supermarkets. Lunch is typically rice, ugali, or lentils with vegetables. Dinner is usually a common Kenyan dish: rice and beans; chapati and vegetables; fish and ugali, fresh fruit, etc. Volunteers will take turns helping cook meals. Western food and snacks can be purchased on your own at nearby grocery stores. Please note that some foods may be different than what you’re accustomed to, but being flexible is important to respecting and adapting to a new culture.Algo más...
