This is a sustainable homestead that's focused around music, food, and hosting artists. It was founded in 2012 on a 67 acre piece of abandoned family land, and as the vision continues to unfurl, it has always been rooted in a love for nature, music, and people. Throughout the property you'll find pastures and forests, gardens and orchards, multiple cabins, campsites, a musical communal house, a solar powered music studio/stage and a tropical subterranean greenhouse. Hosting people is at the heart of the operation here. Throughout the year there's a continual flow of musicians and artists here for residencies, touring bands passing through to play a show, videographers working on films/music videos, and awesome folks doing a work exchange here, specifically to help with the permaculture projects.

The land is nestled just outside of Burnsville North Carolina, at the base of the Black Mountains. Diverse with pastures, pine forests, old growth deciduous forests, streams, and wild life. Very blessed with many old apple, black walnut, cherry, and Chinese chestnuts. And now after 6 years of homesteading here lots of young trees including peaches, pears, mulberries, persimmons, paw paws, gingkos, and many many more.

So far the livable structures include the main house which is a cozy five bedroom house with a musical common area, 3 tiny houses, a solar powered music studio/cabin, a subterranean greenhouse, a big artsy bus thats on Air BnB, and multiple campsites on Air BnB

Depending on the time of year, there are usually between 5-12 people , most of which are artist/musicians doing residencies here, and usually 1 to 2 helpers, mostly between 18-40 years old (but all ages are welcome). We also host people regularly and have many visiting friends and touring musicians.. We host events like potlucks, concerts, music video/movie shoots, and other interesting events throughout the year. There's 1 dogs and 5 cats at the moment, and no chickens or ducks which is rare! We share the land with turkeys, deer, rabbits, groundhogs, chipmunks, squirrels, coyotes, black snakes (harmless), hawks, crows, bluebirds, cardinals, finches, etc.

There is an abundnace of wild edible/medicinal plants and mushrooms in the mountains here. Foraging, eating, sharing, and learning about these incredible resources is part of the lifestyle here. So if you havent tried incredible wild mushrooms like hen of the wood, oysters, lions mane etc, along with many delicious wild plants, you will have the opportunity to do so here.

We provide basic grains, greens, and vegetables for the helpers here. We share a meal on every work day and theres also a communal shelf full of teas, spices, and many other goods helpers are welcome to any time.

Helpers will have their own private space, be it a room in the communal music house or their own tiny house. Depends on time of year and current availability. Linens are provided. Helpers have full access to lots of great musical instruments and an extensive library.

    Head lamp, camera, work shoes,

For the 2020 season we will be hosting helpers for 2 week periods all throughout the year. After two weeks we could consider a longer stay if it feels right for everyone.

An 8 minute drive to Burnsville, a little mountain town with a vibrant arts community and a rich history. There are grocery stores, banks, art galleries, and restuarants that host bands and open mic nights.

Asheville, one of the most artsy and culturally rich cities in the world is 40 minutes away.

Boone is Asheville's funky little sister, a vibrant college town in the heart of the mountains, only 1 hour away.

Mount Mitchell, the highest mountain East of the Mississippi is here in Yancey County.

The Linville Gorge is an inspiring place to visit and is near Boone (also very inspiring) .

Some other farms in the area we'd recommend include Soulshine Farm, Mountain Gardens, Chestnut Hill, and the Dig-In Community Garden here in Burnsville.

Please include your proposed dates. a bit about yourself, any links you have to your profiles/websites etc. Looking forward to hearing from you all!
