Our beautiful piece of paradise is nestled in a community covering 300 acres of sub-tropical rainforest with abundant wildlife somewhere in between Uki, Kyogle, Lismore and Nimbin (Northern Rivers). We are surrounded by stunning national parks and nearby swimming holes (see photo) and an hour to the beach. On the community there is a swimming dam. There are plenty of stunning walks for those who love hiking, with spectacular scenes across the caldera to Mt Warning. This is a great base to explore the area.

Hubby and I live with our 5 year old in an artisan spiral roundhouse on 5 acres. We are in the process of renovating the house and creating veggie patches and planting fruit trees with the goal of becoming as self-sufficient as possible. We live as chemical-free as we can, we use natural products in day to day life and also for renovating. We are a non-smoking (tobacco) household.

We are looking for 1 or 2 people to stay and help us with a variety of projects in the garden and house :)

Our next big project is to build a roof structure in the garden for our new solar panels to sit on. The structure will be built from bush poles and timber from trees that we have milled and will eventually be converted to a cabin for our Workawayers! We are looking for Workawayers with experience in building, carpentry or a willingness to be involved, we are very excited to get this project underway before the winter arrives.

Workawayers have their own room with two single beds and sofa and share the bathroom, kitchen and living space with us. We are off-grid apart from a telephone so the main house runs off solar power and rainwater tanks so folks must be conscious of power and water usage! There is a landline and internet at the house.

Please do get in touch if you love nature and would like to stay in the hills amongst the gum trees :)

Our minimum stay is two weeks and up to 2 months so far :)

Our community is Land for Wildlife and we are strictly dog and cat free which means that there is abundant wildlife.

Our roundhouse is completely off the grid apart from a phone line and we use eco-products around the house. We are happy to share our journey towards self-sufficiency and we also have friends who have a variety of self-sufficiency skills from preserving, baking sourdough to syntropic farming so we are happy to connect if there is a particular interest.

I enjoy pottery and would be happy to share what I know. We have a local studio with kiln so your clay can be fired if you plan on staying for over a month as most pieces require two firings and we the kiln is run by volunteers.

We have abundant wildlife at our cabin, we share the space with beautiful pademelons, birds, owls and more.

The small hippy town of Nimbin is 20 minutes away and is a melting pot for musicians, artists and folks wanting to be self-sufficient. There is often a drumming circle on a Friday evening in Nimbin as well other music events. It has a farmers market each week with organic and local produce. Lismore and Murwillumbah are the nearest large towns and are a 45 min drive and have all the usual services.

Our next big project is to build a roof structure in the garden for our new solar panels to sit on. The structure will be built from bush poles and timber from trees that we have milled and will eventually be converted to a cabin for our Workawayers and visitors! We are looking for Workawayers with experience in building, carpentry or a willingness to be involved, we are very excited to get this project underway before the winter arrives!

We also have plans to create an organic veggie patch plus wicking beds and it needs on-going weeding plus a few small projects as we create a beautiful space to grow food. We'd love someone to give us a hand with this.

We are creating a native garden as well as an outdoor play area for our kiddo. And if you are keen on bush regeneration we also need lots of help with our 5 acre plot. There are lantana and other weeds to be cleared and native plants planted!

Inside the house, we have lots of little jobs that we never have time to do thanks to our little one. Such as painting inside the house using eco-paints. For those who love working with wood, building, plumbing or being creative we can also have many jobs around the property that need doing including repairs and maintenance.

We would also value having a Workawayer who is happy to hang out with our noisy 4 year olds whilst we run around getting stuff done or who loves to prepare meals, our littlie has food intolerances so meal times require some creativity.

Other general tasks might include gathering kindling and firewood ready for winter. We even need help selling on some of our belongings we no longer need, I need help organising a market stall!

We have endless lists of things we need help with or would love to create and so if you have a passion for something in particular, we'd be happy to be flexible. If you prefer indoor / outdoors, physical / non-physical tasks we can accommodate accordingly. Some of the tasks we need help with are listed below.

Workawayers have their own room with two single beds and share the bathroom, kitchen and living space with us. We are off-grid apart from a telephone so the main house runs off solar power and rainwater tanks so folks must be conscious of power and water usage! There is a landline and internet at the house.

We offer 3 meals a day in exchange for 4-5 hours 5 days a week. We like to start work at set times in the morning as this helps with the flow of the day especially if we have to do school drops and pickups. Sometimes we need to be flexible and likewise we can be flexible around others needs. Arrangements are agreed on arrival or we are happy to chat or video call before your arrival :)

Workawayers often catch the bus to Nimbin from Byron Bay. Public transport is limited here but buses do run from the community entrance to Nimbin and on into Lismore and Murwillumbah at school times. People often hitch into Nimbin too as locals are used to tourists and residents hitching a ride but obviously caution should be applied.

There are local swimming holes such as Hanging Rock swimming hole which is a 10 minute drive, the community has its own swimming dam too plus plenty of roads and fire trails for walks around the community.

We are also close to stunning scenic drives and spots to visit, the following sites are all within 1.5 hour drive. If we have capacity we are happy to take helpers to:
    - Once a month (second Sunday) the Channon Craft Market is worth a visit, and generally there are small markets every Sunday around the area.
    - Border Ranges National Park especially The Pinnacle Look-out.
    - Natural Bridge to see the waterfall and glow worms.
    - Brunswick Heads seaside town with the great music venue at Brunswick Hotel.
    - Mullumbimby, another hippy town.

And also helpers may like to visit the following under their own steam:
    - Minion falls which are 100m high.
    - Protester's falls.
    - Byron Bay
    - Lennox Heads teatree lake.

This area is abundant with events and workshops and our community has an astrologer who does readings.

There isn't much public transport but we are happy to take Workawayers out sight seeing when we can and there might be lifts available through other members of our community.
