Our farm is 70 Km from de city of Buenos Aires. The bus connection is not the best but not impossible.
It is also a very good place for birdwatching.

I had a great time working on Roland and Corina's farm. I had the opportunity to practice my Spanish and learn more about organic farming. The scenery was very beautiful and their pets were so friendly and nice. I had a room to myself and the working hours were very reasonable. I only wish I could have stayed longer!

I have truly enjoyed my two months working here on the organic farm. The hosts Corina and Roland are both kind and very welcoming to the volunteers. I enjoyed all aspects of the daily work, from harvesting, weeding and packing of the produce for market the following day. The work is varied and different each day and I found spending time with the… read more full time Argentinian workers and Roland both relaxing and fun. It also gave me the chance to practise my basic Spanish with them!
The day starts at 8.30 or 9.30am during the winter months after you have had breakfast. I then harvested, weeded the herb tunnels until 12 mid day and then you have lunch from 12 till 1pm. Then work continues back in the fields or packing the produce until about 5pm. Then the rest of the day is yours to do what you'd like to do.
The town of Los Cardalas is rather small but easily reached via the bicycle here at the farm, about 30 minutes cycle ride. They have a couple of decent supermarkets where you can get any extra food you might like to cook. Corina cooks many varied and lovely vegetarian meals, my two favourites cooked by her where the cheese and onion empanadas and the delicious pumpkin tart !
You have every weekend off to either visit a nearby town or pop back to Buenos Aires for some sight seeing. The Pilar express bus takes approximately an hour to get to Buenos Aires, but you will need to catch the Los Cardalas bus to Pilar which takes about 45 minutes to get to Pilar. You will need a Sube card to use on these buses and these can be obtained easily from Buenos Aires. There is also a train from Los Cardalas to Buenos Aires which is very cheap but takes about 3 hours to get there and you will need to change at Victoria to get back to Buenos Aires. I did not use the train at night so I am unsure on the safely aspect of using this at night, as even during the day the children seem to take a lot of pleasure throwing stones at the train at certain towns, which made me and a few passengers jump!
Roland is very knowledgeable about the many birds you can see around the farm and it was great to spend a day bird watching with him. I also had many a pleasant late afternoon and evenings drinking maté with him, talking about my travel experiences and my culture along with looking at the many different star formations, which are very different to the ones you can see in the northern hemisphere.
I personally will be sad to leave the farm, but i will take many good memories away with me as this work away experience has been this best one so far for me.
I hope that the Pecan nut seeds we planted come to fruit in about 4 to 8 years time and that they remind you when your harvesting them, of an English man who had such a good time here on the farm.
I will always be grateful to you both for hosting me and I wish you every success for the future.
If you could also give Othello and Sissy a plain biscuit I'm sure they would still like the treats !
