Come live on a boat and help us with our old stone house in rural Ireland set on an acre of trees.

The house is close to Rathcroghan which is the oldest and largest unexcavated royal site in Europe, it's an area rich in Celtic myths and legends and we have bikes available to explore this beautiful area.

Victor (58) and I (Donna, 56) have lots of exciting ideas and projects for the house and skills we'd like to share. We enjoy planting out our garden and poly tunnel, basic home repairs and maintenance, recycling or repurposing objects, and plan to further develop a small orchard of fruit trees and bushes.

Victor is an electrician with an "engineering head" and has interests in maps, astronomy, woodwork, welding and fixing things.I am an Occupational Therapist (mainly working with children), a massage therapist and I am interested in furniture restoration, painting and decorating, garden design, drumming, face and body painting, foraging, and art. We both share interests in sustainability, biodiversity, travel, art installation, archery, music and having fun.

We enjoy boating, sailing, (we may need some help on the boats as well), kayaking. hiking and walking our beautiful dog Jessie (our lovely, placid lurcher). We love traveling, meeting people from all over the world and learning about different cultures.

Intercambio cultural y oportunidades de aprendizaje

The area we live in is steeped with Irish folklore and legend and is great for learning a little bit about Celtic mythology.

While we don't play instruments, we do appreciate live music and often enjoy going to a music session if there is something on in the area.

We enjoy chatting and learning about different people, different cultures and different countries - learning the differences but also realizing we are all the same! We love playing games, movies, good food - especially BBQ's!

Our love of boating will give you a glimpse of life within the boating community and the beautiful Irish waterways.

We have traveled to many places around Europe, Asia and New Zealand and enjoy learning a bit about different languages and cultures. Many years ago I had the pleasure of teaching English in Turkey and Austria and had a wonderful time full of great memories.

  • Alojamiento

    Alojamiento

You will be staying in the bow cabin of a 32 foot sailing boat, having the entire space of the boat to yourselves. It has a stove top cooker with an onboard toilet. All sheets and towels are provided. You will be provided with cards that we use to access showers and washing machine facilities near where the boats are moored. My boat will be moored next to/nearby where you stay and we can share meals on my boat. Location can vary week to week but boats are usually moored approximately 30 mins from the house.

Ideally we are looking for a couple or two people traveling together (preferably with their own transport) as you will be living on the boat nearby. Generally, we will travel to the house together.

If you have specific dietary requirements we will leave it to you take responsibility for any additional supplies you need. We look forward to sharing our favorite dishes and learning to cook dishes from around the world.

Bikes will be available to use to explore the historic sites in the area and you're welcome to use the kayaks to explore the waterways. We can drop you off at the bus stop nearby which takes you anywhere in the country and we have loads of favorite places locally and around Ireland to recommend such as a donkey sanctuary, wild swimming spots, neolithic tombs and beautiful hiking trails.

    Jessie

Jessie is nearly 6 years old and is a beautiful rescued lurcher. A lurcher is when you cross a greyhound or whippet with something else. In Jessie's case, she is a collie cross.
She is a happy, gentle dog that loves to be petted and loves to run.
