Looking for house sitter (October 2026):
We will be away to visit family in Hong Kong for most of the October 2026. Looking for a house sitter (or house sitters) to take care of our house, animals and house plants while we are away. If you have a car and have some experience with cat and dog, please write to us.
There is opportunity to stay for longer than the house sitting period, as we also have space to host before and after house sitting. In exchange for free accommodation, you can help us with jobs around the property.
About Us:
My name is Cheri. And Jade is my partner. We have two little girls, 5-year-old Artemis and 1-year-old Posie.
Jade and I met each other while we were traveling in Asia. We have lots of experiences as volunteering through workaway in our traveling days. We enjoyed meeting people and experiencing cultures through volunteering. Now we have settled in this beautiful place of Tasmania, we have the privilege to be hosting volunteers from around the world.
Our property is off grid and surrounded by beautiful spring, wetland, rainforest and river. We have plenty of tracks to walk on our property. There are a bountiful of wild animals to spot. If you love nature, and want to explore the beautiful NE Tasmania, this is the place for you.
We are looking for a wide range of help both indoor and outdoor. You can write to us and let us know what you are interested in and capable of doing.
From where we live, the closest town is Scottsdale, about 10 minutes' drive away. It’s not practical to walk or cycle to town. If you don’t have a car, we can offer you a ride to and from our place during your time off. But we will have to make it works with our family schedule. -

We are blessed to be living in one of the most beautiful spots in Tasmania. There are so much we can offer in terms of nature. You can spot all kind of native birds and animals on our property. Besides the usual wallabies and possums, you will find quolls if you go for a night walk along our driveway. Echidnas also like to hang around. Wombats are living along our river. I’ve also heard Tasmania devils in our bush at night. Our river is full of trouts, blackfish, eels and crayfish. With some luck, you can even see a platypus swimming along.
Off-grid living has been trendy. This could be a chance for you to experience this lifestyle firsthand. That being said, we are far from living it rough. We enjoy plenty of modern conveniences and comforts. New house is equipped with dishwasher, gas hot water, washer and dryer, two TVs, game consoles, and starlink internet. But we do rely on our rainwater tanks for water, and our solar system for power. Wood is also required to stay warm through at least 9 months in Tasmania. So we always have to be on top of wood cutting, mindful of water usage, and check the sun before we switch on too many appliances.
We are a multicultural household. Jade is white and Australian, I’m Chinese and from Hong Kong. We have traveled many places, and always keen to learn about your country and your stories. -

Ayuda
Help is always appreciated inside the house regarding childcare, general cleaning and organising, cooking and meal preparation etc. But if that bores you and you prefer to be outdoor, there are always gardening tasks to do.
Wood cutting and stacking are one of the constant jobs. There are also brush cutting and mowing, maintaining our walking tracks, clearing out overgrown vegetations around our house. -

Alojamiento
The four of us are living in the new house, which was built in 2024. There is one guest room with a queen size bed. Our new house is nice and modern. But staying close to us means you are closer to the unavoidable chaos and noises of living with young kids.
For those who prefer their own space, you can stay at our old house. It's a rustic mudbrick building, quirky and charming although basic. It’s only a 100m away from our new house, enough distance to have privacy. But still close enough that it’s still convenient to socialise. There are three bedrooms in the old house, each can fit two singles or one queen size bed. We can move some mattresses and bed around to suit your needs. -

There are endless places to explore and see in this part of Tasmania. We are very lucky to be living close to some of the most beautiful beaches on earth.
Our favorite, the Waterhouse Conservation Area, is just a 35 minutes drive. Bridport is a seaside town just 30 minutes away. Bay of fire through St Helen is about 1.5 to 2 hr drive (perfect for a day trip or weekend). Tomahawk, Musselroe Bay, Eddystone Point are all breathtakingly beautiful beaches you can get to in a car in bit more than 1 hour.
We are also very close to Derby the mountain biking town with world famous trails. Many mountain bike shops offering shuttle services and rental bikes to anyone from beginner to professional mountain bikers. I would definitely recommend mountain biking at Derby if you were interested.
Launceston is the city to visit if that’s what you’d like to do on your day off. It’s 1 hour 15 minutes by car. And there is also a bus you can take to go from Scottsdale to Launceston and back. Bridport is also accessible by bus.
Lavender farm is about 25 minutes away. There are also many great vineyards to visit in the area. Clover Hill, Janz and Piper Brooks are some of our favorites. Many local breweries and distilleries in our area, offering tasting and food.
The closest town to our place is Scottsdale (10 minutes' drive from home), which is the service town of NE Tasmania. It has all the essential services you’d need, e.g. hospital, government offices, bank, supermarkets, op-shops, parks and cafes etc. You can find a decent coffee in Scottsdale.
If you'd rather relax around home, we have starlink internet for entertainment and staying connected. And there are many tracks in our bush and along our river for walks, a good varieties of scrnic spots to soak in the nature. Feel free to take our mats, hammock or camp chairs, you can read a book or practice yoga on our veranda, in the bush, by our river or ponds. We also have a cupboard full of board games. -
