  Life in the mountains of Andalucía — land, family & simple living 🌿
  
  We are a small family living in the mountains above Órgiva, in the beautiful Alpujarras of Andalucía.
  
  We have recently moved here and are beginning the process of caring for and developing our new home and land. We are looking for one or two practical, grounded people to join us during autumn and winter 2026 and help with the seasonal work that comes with living on a piece of mountain land.
  
  The main tasks will be olive and almond harvesting, along with general land care and maintenance. It is hands-on, outdoor work, and often it is physically demanding. We are looking for people who genuinely enjoy being outside, working with their hands and getting stuck in. Demanding, yet so rewarding!
  
  In exchange, you'll have your own private Casita (studio apartment), the opportunity to experience rural Andalucía and plenty of time to enjoy everything the Alpujarras has to offer.
  
  Our home & lifestyle
  
  We live in a beautiful, peaceful and fairly remote mountain setting, around a 15-minute drive from Órgiva, in the Cerro Negro area.
  
  We are high up on the mountain, so although Órgiva isn't far away, you cannot simply walk into town from here. An electric mountain/off-road bicycle could potentially work, but the road is steep, with some bumps and rough sections, so it's not suitable for an ordinary town bike.
  
  We are fully off-grid, with solar electricity and water from the local acequia and spring system. Living here means being conscious of water, electricity and the rhythms of the natural environment.
  
  It's a beautiful place, but it is not a holiday resort or luxury retreat!
  
  We are early risers and early to bed, and this is an important part of our lifestyle.
  
  If you are a late-night owl, someone who enjoys staying up late, or you're looking for a party/social house, this probably isn't the right place for you. We tend to start our days early, get things done while the morning is cool, and enjoy quieter evenings.
  
  That said, there is plenty happening in the area. Órgiva has a lively community, a thriving Thursday market and regular events, gatherings, music, classes and other activities. Our son is at Kindergarten four days a week, so we have a natural rhythm to our week and there are often opportunities to get into town or further afield.
  
  We are happy to plan the week ahead together, and when it works with our family and work schedule, you're very welcome to jump in the car with us when we're heading into town or going somewhere.
  
  Your own space
  
  You'll have your own separate casita/studio apartment, giving you privacy and independence during your stay.
  
  We think this is a really important part of making communal living work well. You can spend time with us, share meals and conversation, and be part of family life — but you also have your own space to retreat to.
  
  Food
  
  We're flexible about food and don't have a one-size-fits-all arrangement.
  
  Depending on what works best for everyone, you can:
  
  provide and prepare your own food independently;
  have us provide food for you to cook for yourself; or
  eat and share meals with us.
  
  We're happy to talk about this together before you arrive and find an arrangement that suits everyone.
  
  How we like to work together
  
  Having hosted many Workawayers over around 2½ years in Portugal, we've learnt a lot about what makes living and working together enjoyable.
  
  The biggest lesson?
  
  Communication, communication, communication!
  
  We really value people who are able to be clear, honest and straightforward about what they need, what they are comfortable with and when something isn't working for them.
  
  We also appreciate clear boundaries and clear agreements. If we agree that we're starting work at 8am, then at 8am we're there and ready to go. We appreciate promptness and reliability, and in return we'll be clear about what we need and what we're asking from you.
  
  We're not looking for perfection — we're looking for people who communicate.
  
  If you're tired, tell us. If you need some time alone, tell us. If you've misunderstood something, ask. If you don't agree with something, let's talk about it.
  
  We'd much rather have an open conversation than have someone quietly struggle or build up resentment.
  
  For us, Workaway is an exchange between adults. We want everyone to feel respected, comfortable and able to speak openly.
  
  Who we're looking for
  
  We're looking for one or two kind, reliable, practical and reasonably independent people.
  
  You don't need to arrive with years of agricultural experience. We're happy to show you what needs doing. What's more important is that you have a good attitude, are willing to work physically outdoors and can take responsibility for yourself.
  
  We'd particularly love people who:
  
  enjoy nature and rural living;
  are happy doing physical outdoor work;
  are practical and willing to get stuck in;
  are reliable and punctual;
  communicate openly and honestly;
  respect shared spaces and boundaries;
  enjoy both social time and their own independence.
  
  We're not looking for people who simply want a cheap place to stay while travelling, or who expect the experience to be a holiday with a little bit of work attached.
  
  The work is real, and sometimes hard.
  
  But so is the reward: living in a beautiful mountain landscape, working outdoors, learning about the land, experiencing rural Andalucía and becoming part of our little corner of the Alpujarras for a while.
  
  If olive trees, almond trees, mountain air, early mornings, muddy boots, good conversation, simple living and a slower rhythm of life sound appealing to you, we'd love to hear from you. 🌿

  We hope that when people leave they have learnt something new - a practical skill or something about themselves. Everyone who has slept in our house has slept well, had incredible dreams, eaten nourishing food, and hopefully left with a full heart.

  Ayuda

  We usually work about 4–5 hours a day, five days a week, mostly in the mornings. The land and light here suit early starts — it’s when the air is fresh and the work feels good.
  
  We plan our week together in advance so everyone knows what’s coming and can balance work with rest, creativity, and time to explore. We can be flexible when needed, but keeping a steady rhythm helps everything flow.
  
  We like to share cooking and cleaning on a rota basis. (some cooking time can come off the work hours)

  Our home is tucked away in a peaceful village, surrounded by wild woodlands and just a short drive (or a hilly walk) from breathtaking river beaches.
  While the village doesn’t have shops or cafes within walking distance, we’re out and about frequently during the week and happy to align our trips with anything you might need. It’s a wonderful place to disconnect, relax, and enjoy the beauty of nature. There isn't any nightlife close by and we are quiet people - if you are looking for busy hustle and bustle, with a lot of stimulation; we won't be a match.
