🌟Seeking people from October onwards 🌟
We feel truly blessed to have found ourselves here, calling this land our home.
We like to welcome people who hear our dream and are happy to be a part of our family life for a while.
We moved to Portugal from England in August 2023 in our camper-van, and soon found our home in March 2024. So it’s all new and work in progress.
We are working towards self sustainability using Permaculture, Biodynamic & Hügelkultur principles. Using solar power and eventually wind power. Creating our own family oriented community over time. 💛
This is a great place for anyone who appreciates their own space. We are looking for hard working, self motivated, reliable and outdoorsy individuals to help in the daily responsibilities around the land as well as contributing to ongoing projects.
This means we are looking for organised and responsible people who will honour the work hours we agree on and the tasks themselves.
Some days are hard work digging, land clearing, getting sweaty and doing the not so beautiful jobs. Some days are doing the beautiful jobs! We are learning to take care of our bodies and our energy, and we want you to do that too.
Finding the balance of the jobs that need to be done alongside the projects that are inspiring and beautiful.
🕰️ Our work exchange schedule is to work from 7am-12.30/1pm, with a breakfast break when you need it. It tends to be around 8.30/9am. Then the afternoon free. We can be flexible on this arrangement though, happy to talk about it.
(Although when it’s been super hot we are playing with the work hours being split early morning and early evening. It’s just too hot by 10am on the 40+ degrees days!) 🕰️
The garden is becoming established slowly, but we are also eager to get started on converting a ‘studio apartment’ type space, and experimenting with more natural building techniques.
We have just had some windows & a door fitted to the apartment, so that work has begun.
We are most excited about hosting people who have similar knowledge to us, but if you don’t and we feel aligned in other ways then that can work too.
Spaces that you would be able to make your nest during your stay will either be our attic in the main house, our camper-van, or bell tent in the garden. 🚐 ⛺️
We also ask that you only bring and use natural/biodegradable washing products. Our water goes straight back to the land and waters our fruit trees. Shampoos, soaps, toothpastes, sunscreens… all natural please 🙏🏽
We all share and take responsibility for cooking & cleaning, tidying up after ourselves.
Happy to accommodate food requests from the shops when we go if they fit into the budget.
We don’t eat gluten & dairy due to allergies, but we can get bread/cheese/butter in for you, if you are mindful of the fact we don’t eat it.
Happy to give you a lift into town on your days off. Figueiro dos Vinhos is 15 minutes away. You’re welcome to join us for day trips to markets, festa’s and gatherings too.
We’re also very close to some truly stunning swimming spots, also happy to take you, and you can borrow our kayak or board if you want to go out on the water.
Both Mendel & I (Sarah) are self reflective, pretty mellow and like our own space and quiet around our child’s needs. (Mani, he’s nearly 3)
I am slowly co-creating a homeschooling hub & would like to soon study to become a Waldorf teacher. Mendel leads the gardening, the building projects, and also co-owns a fermented foods business in England, working remotely.
Our lives do revolve around our boy, he is in the centre right now. He can be loud, mischievous and expressive!
Mostly we appreciate our evenings to ourselves once he’s asleep.
We try our best to parent in a conscious, respectful and kind way, putting in boundaries when they are needed.
We welcome you putting appropriate boundaries in with him when you feel you need to. He loves playing with water, sand, being barefoot on the land. As do I!

We both speak fluent English as our native tongues (our boy's main language is English, some Hebrew), Mendel speaks conversational Hebrew and to our boy. We want to integrate more Portuguese into our everyday lives, we’re learning slowly!

We are quite remote so you cannot walk into any towns from us. Our village doesn’t have a shop or cafe. We go out a lot in the week and can sync up our trips out with your needs as much as we can.
The house is within a small village, next to some woodland, and a short drive to some beautiful river beaches. Happy to take you into town or to these beautiful water spots on your days off.
Also happy to have local day trips to show you the stunning natural places surrounding us.
