Small house with big garden near the Baltic Sea (1h) seeks helpers for house and garden

We are two dropouts (best friends) from Berlin who bought a house in Western Pomerania in 2015 and have since expanded it themselves. Everything without big money, everything on a modest scale, it should remain quite original.
So we are searching for people that are also critical of consumerism, close to nature and who lead modest lives; they will find their way in our simple house. After all, we have Internet and telephone and now also a fridge for the summer.
Since our house can not be heated in all rooms in winter, we are primarily looking for people for the summer months.
Over the summer many friends and families visit us; It can be turbulent even when children are there. You should like that.

Kleines Haus mit großem Garten in Ostseenähe (1h) sucht Helfer für Haus und Garten

Wir sind zwei Berlin-Aussteiger, beste Freunde, die sich 2015 ein Haus in Vorpommern gekauft haben und es seitdem selbst ausgebaut haben. Alles ohne großes Geld, alles in bescheidenem Rahmen, es soll recht ürsprünglich bleiben.
Wer also auch konsumkritisch, naturnah und bescheiden lebt, der findet sich in unserem einfachen Haus gut zurecht. Wir haben immerhin Internet und Telefon und neuerdings auch einen Kühlschrank für den Sommer.
Da unser Haus im Winter nicht in allen Räumen beheizt werden kann, suchen wir vorranging Leute für die Sommermonate.
Über den Sommer kommen uns immer viele Freunde und Familien besuchen; es kann also auch schonmal turbulent werden, wenn Kinder dabei sind. Das solltest Du mögen.

We live in a small 90-soul village; The Baltic Sea is an hour away by car via the island of Usedom.
Anklam as the nearest supermarket is 16 km away. Supply buses arrive in the village (bakers, butchers, fruits & vegetables).
Behind our village, the landscape protection begins Large Landgrabental, a paradise for flora and fauna.
Here you can make wonderful bike trips, castle ruins, manors, forests, lakes.

Wir leben in einem kleinen 90-Seelen-Dorf; die Ostsee ist mit dem Auto eine Stunde entfernt über die Insel Usedom.
Anklam als nächste Einkaufsmöglichkeit ist 16 km entfernt. Versorgungsbusse kommen ins Dorf (Bäcker, Fleischer, Obst&Gemüse).
Hinter unserem Dorf beginnt das Landschaftsschutzbegiet Großes Landgrabental, ein Paradies für Flora und Fauna.
Hier kann man wunderbare Fahrradausflüge machen, Burgruinen, Herrenhäuser, Wälder, Badeseen.

We always have a lot of little projects around our house and the gardens:
setting new garden fence posts, cutting trees, mowing the grass, choping wood and take the weed off our beds. You will find something that you like to do.
And of course there is help in the house like cooking and cleaning. Every day life...

Wir haben immer eine Menge kleinerer Projekte rund ums Haus und die Gärten:
Wände mit Lehm verputzen, Böden verlegen mit alten Backsteinen, neue Gartenzaunpfosten setzen, Bäume ausschneiden, Gras sensen und Rasen mähen, Holz hacken, Unkraut jäten. Du wirst schon etwas finden, was Dir Spaß macht...
Und natürlich gibt es genug im Haus zu tun, wie kochen und putzen. Alltag eben...

We have a nice guest room for you alone. Bathroom and toilet is available.
But you can also camp in our 2000 square meter garden and when the guest house is ready, of course, be the first to sleep in there!

We had a really awesome experience with Moritz and Mark this summer. We spent almost one entire month in Rebelow and we had such a good time. First of all, the location is incredible. Moritz’s house is situated on the best spot of the village, just in front of some beautiful weeping willows. The surroundings are amazing too: … read more there’s a stunning lake near the village, a breathtaking castle and an astonishing forest pretty near too. The rooms are spacious, well decorated and comfortable. The meals are taken together, with a calm atmosphere and really tasty vegetarian food. Moritz is such a good chef!!
Regarding the work, as Momo said, we had two main building projects: the wooden facade of the garden house and the brick wall in Mark’s house. Both were end to end projects, which allowed us to truly understand all the work that is behind it. The skills and knowledge we acquired here is something that we value a lot from the work away experience. In fact, Tomas has already applied what he learned in Rebelow, building a wooden henhouse as a gift for his girlfriend. Moreover, Moritz always made sure that we were feeling safe and comfortable during the work sessions.
I must admit that before coming to Rebelow, we were a bit concerned about it being in the middle of nowhere. But, in reality, this is what makes this village such an enjoyable place, as you can truly experience calm and silence. “Gelassenheit”, the first word that Moritz taught me, which means calmness and serenity, sums up all this work away experience.

Thomas' feedback:
I spent a month in Rebelow living with Moritz and Mark in my first experience with WorkAway and I feel so lucky for it.
Möritz and Mark are such an easy people, very simple, friendly and humble, but also interesting and cultured. The perfect mixt to make two guys with whom you will have an easy coexistence, with nice talks and laughs.
I would like to say so many things and I’ve been breaking my head to think about how can I put it all in a review. I’m sorry, I wasn’t able to do it and I got stuck. So, I finally decided to let it go and make it brief to leave a written record of just a couple of things about the work in the house and the free time/ cultural exchange.
About the working time I would like to highlight how much you learn with Möritz, he behaved like a father to me, with great patience and confidence. He always explained himself very well, letting me to try and fail many times and also knowing how to criticize in case of error to get the best out of me every day. He’s such a good teacher, this is how already from the first day you take ownership of the project he’s doing and you feel it as yours as it is from him. That was perfect to me because I entered in a dynamic where I got up every morning wanting to start and give it all. I would have liked to see the house finished :’)
Regarding to the cultural exchange, I have to say that, although I did not practice any German (we always prioritized the well understanding of each other’s with English), I learned a lot more than I expected about the history of the German people and the mentalities of the East.
I also really enjoyed the woods with Mark, talking about mushrooms, plants and animals. I saw myself in him both in his sense of humor and in his passion for the living systems. I will always remember the hours we spent walking while I was learning from him. Lately I can't help but think of the Rebelow woods when I'm in my mycology classes or when I've gone to look for mushrooms in the forest (which is already starting to be the season).
For that and many other stuffs, I believe that the best thing you can take from Rebelow is living with these two great people. That the house, location, project and food is spectacular falls short of what you can learn from Möritz and Mark. It may sound cheesy but you only have to see them interact with the other people (with the neighbors, in the bus, in the supermarket…) to realize that they are simply good human beings, and if you go with an open mind, energy to work and the desire to learn, you will end up loving them as much as we do :)
PD: Finally, I also want to send my regards to Mischka, Norman and Nico and say that I keep my promise to the hosts that I will come to visit you in the future, take good care of yourself.
