This was our first experience with hosting a 'Workawayer' and it definitely put us in the mood for more! Sylvie was a dream! From the first day that she was with us it was obvious.
Sylvie is warm and friendly and a dream to be around. She immediately ingratiated herself into our world by being so honest and up front with any and all issues that
… read more needed addressing. It was a breath of fresh air and removed any tension that may have been there straight away. One of the first questions she asked was if we would use the formal 'vous' or the informal 'tu', which I loved, and we of course used the 'tu'!
The children took a little more time to warm to her, which was expected, after all it was a stranger coming to live with them. But Sylvie put in every effort and they soon came around to her. Our son Will would perhaps take more time to warm to someone but Sylvie eventually had him asking for french nursery rhymes and helping him to do the dance. Sylvie was of course also very generous to the children, she bought them some lovely gifts, they still ask for the french nursery rhymes C.D. to be played.
Sylvie was always eager to teach us some french, which was great. She also was a great help around the house, the place hardly ever looked so clean. Importantly as well was that she knew when to step back. There are of course moments in the day when young children want their parents only, and Sylvie had the awareness to recognise this and react, which we very much appreciated.
We're glad that Sylvie had a good time with us here in Ireland. We have kept in touch, and we are travelling to France in September this year for a holiday and plan to meet up with her again whilst over there.
I have no hesitation in recommending Sylvie to anyone, she was a joy.

It was a first experience for all of us and things were done naturally, very simply, in joy and good mood! We are all very happy!
Maura and John are really very friendly, really nice, caring, all the time listening to you, and very cool despite their occupations! They do their best to make you feel at home, sharing their family life, their way of
… read more life, and the good and happy times that come their way!
They are really interested in our culture, see passionate about France and french! They are always eager to practice the language, although it is not always easy for them to be completely available with work and children.
John loves to cook when he has time, and holds his battery of "chef's knives" as the apple of his eyes! Maura, meanwhile, could grant you very pleasant little moments related to her studies in progress! She even took me to Dublin while she was doing one of her internships!
Will and May are really adorable, and full of life like brother and sister of that age! They experience life every moment! They are very cute, spontaneous and endearing, although of course it took a little time to get used to me at first, it's normal! You will miss them when you leave!
There is not really any work to be done, it's more of a hand when it's needed in the housework around meals, whether it's help with preparation or do the dishes well and put a little order and cleanliness in the kitchen. Maura does not ask much, it's more a question of personal initiative when we see that help would be needed and welcome!
Look after the children and play with them from time to time as well, and in french when possible! May, and Will especially, adore rhymes sung and mime! They love to be told stories too ...
The nearby town is very "Irish" and it is very nice to make it a walkable goal to get a cool afternoon! Among other things, there is a very nice coffee shop behind the library, and their famous huge ice cream at the Centra supermarket!
On weekends it is possible to take a bus into town and to visit Killarney, Cork, Galway, even Dublin!
That's it, the little Doherty family is really endearing, as well as Maura's one, too! I had a great time with them and I recommend them very warmly!
(Moreover, an appointment is planed for next september in France !)
