Kia ora!
My name is Linda and I am a 65-year-old art retired curator living on a coastal property with a big garden and old house which I am renovating and developing with the help of a live-in builder, Glenn. I am a vegetarian and like cooking.
Ōrere Point is a small village of 300 people on the southeast coast of Auckland. We are on rainwater tanks and currently in an El Nino weather pattern (very little rain) so it is important to conserve water with short showers and infrequent flushing. Ōrere Point is very isolated, a long way (70km, over one hour's drive) from any shops, supermarkets, cafes and banks, so not suitable as your first destination when you arrive from overseas and need to set up banking etc.. You should first book a backpackers in the city.
There are absolutely no public transport links to Ōrere Point. The nearest train and bus services are 45 minutes away by car. Please confirm that you have your own transport, car, motorcycle or van, when you first contact me about volunteering at my place.
I am looking for energetic help with building, household and property maintenance, as well as landscaping and gardening so please let me know what you can do (and have done before as a Workawayer or on your own property or for family members).
4 hours a day is what I expect you will work each day in exchange for food and accommodation, and in the late spring and summer it is preferable that you work in the morning before it gets too hot.
I do not wish to host people who smoke and if your diet is very specific, please make sure that you bring the food with you when you arrive.

Beautiful beach and river nearby which are excellent for swimming. Also great for kayaking - I have a fishing kayak available to borrow. There is a small shop, a library and health clinic but no supermarket in Orere Point (it is a really small place, far away from any city or town) so it is best to bring your own special foods if you have dietary needs.
