    We are a Japanese / Canadian couple. We love to travel, explore and stay active (we surf, snowboard, hike, cycle...). We spend winters in the mountains and summers by the sea. We are able to live our dream by sharing our life-style and space with like-minded budget travelers, and workawayers like you! Due to issues related to COVID we have closed our guesthouses and now only running private self-contained cottages and the cafe is only with limited service and hours.

    There is plenty of time to explore and experience the area. We live near the sea! Enjoy fishing, surfing, body-boarding, hiking along the rugged coast line or spend your days chilling on the beach. Although we live in a beach town and get plenty of tourists, the town, especially our neighborhood has a real local vibe. Everyone here grows their own veggies and has their own rice paddy. Small unattended veggie stands along the road lets you have your share for cheap and sometimes free! I've seen ¥0 leeks for "sale"! Locals are friendly and are likely to greet everyone with a "konichiwa".

    PLEASE NOTE: Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, borders are closed. If you are not in the country already you will not be able to work or travel in Japan. Please contact the Japanese embassy in your part of the world for more information.

    =============================================================
    Workawayers tasks and hours depend on the time you would be joining us, and skills you have to share. We will need some help with housekeeping, room-making, gardening, and general maintenance. Anyone good at bicycle maintenance could help us keep our bikes rolling. Web and graphic designers, writers, photographers, chefs, painters, carpenters, also needed.

    Hourly rate is ¥900. We also can provide project based pay if preferred.

    Experienced gardeners always welcome.

    A MESSAGE REGARDING CORONA:

    -While borders remain closed we expect fewer (and at times no) guests so we hope to find people with creative skills, all kinds! If you have skills to share, tell us about it and send us pics or links to photos! We'd love to see your work. If you would like to use our space to run independent projects, tell us about it! Last season one of our helpers was able to offer very successful aerial yoga classes for the guests and the local community. We have also had jewelry-making workshops, yoga retreats, live music, and dinner shows.

    -We are taking extra precautions, not only for our safety but also to protect our community. We expect everyone to wear a mask outside the house, wash hands upon return, we use alcohol for hands and throughout buildings.

    We prefer to have people who can commit to 4 weeks or more, but shorter stays may be considered.

    PLEASE NOTE: We are CLOSED from October until March. We DON'T need helpers at that time. Check our calendar first!
    PLEASE NOTE: Borders are closed, if you are not in the country now you will not be able to join us in 2021.

    Alojamiento

    Private or shared Japanese style room with tatami floors and futons in a small house we rent within walking distance of our retreat and the ocean.

    We are tucked into a green valley surrounded by mountains and trees. The Izu Peninsula is hilly and rugged, and UNESCO geo-park. We live on the side of a valley, the road to the driveway is not paved. Nature abounds! We see wild boar almost daily. If you are afraid of insects or other creatures this is not the best place for you. If you have trouble walking/cycling uphill this is not the place for you. Summers are HOT and HUMID.
