Hi :-)
I live in the beautiful countryside of Tuscany. Near Florence, Assisi, Perugia, Siena, Rome. I am American and Italian. With my husband and 2 dogs. I could use a little help with all of them. Also I enjoy sharing my new country with you. You would have a bedroom and bathroom. I frequent other expats in the surrounding area. You would have excellent opportunities to explore Tuscany and practice both English and Italian.
I am available to host one person or a couple.

My guests have loved this INSIDE view of ITALIA..We explore the area and exchange many ideas..I host cooking classes in my home enjoy the good life. My husband only speaks Italian so you would be naturally encouraged to do so too.

I spent two months at Grace's home taking care of the house, yard and two awesome dogs while the owners were away. It was a fantastic experience. Grace's home is a good place for you who want an intimate acquaintance with Tuscany and practice American English and Italian at the same time.
Grace and her husband Giancarlo gave me a warm welcome picking me up at the train station in Arezzo on arrival, even if it was late on a Sunday evening. They live in a rural area, in a semidetached stone… read more built house with a huge garden surrounded by acres and farmland, so you would wake up to the sound of a rooster and birds singing. They live together with Grace's 102 year old mother and two dogs. Graces mother is a lovely old lady, still rather self sufficiant, walking up and down the staircase on her own.
From the first day I felt I was treated as a family member. I had my own spacious bedroom, and the privilege of sharing the bathroom with the old lady. I really appreciated her confidence allowing me to arrange her hearing aid, preparing her a cup of tea or tucking a blanket around her when she was relaxing in her armchair watching TV. She communicates in both English and Italian and is very easy to get along with.
Grace expects her workawayer to keep her with company. She takes great pride in showing you the area, and together we went to many interesting places like Lucigniano, Foiano, Norcia, Pienza, Rapellano, Orvieto, Cortona and Siena. We would be accompanied by her mom whenever possible, taking her age and weather conditions into account. Grace appreciates that you go to explore on your own as well, so I spent some days on solo excursions and went on bike rides, or to Florence and Peruggia. Grace is an excellent cook who prepares warm meals every day and she loves to go out for lunch, so I got a decent insight in Italian food. She is an expert on gnocchi and provided a private cooking class for me, so I will put the recipe in practice when I return to Norway. Grace has a lot of friends and acquaintances who came over for lunch, or we met them in various places, so I got to know a lot of new people during my stay. Everybody was very kind and welcoming.
Grace's husband Giancarlo is a kind man, working every day and spending only evenings and week-ends at home. He speaks Italian only, and, being very social, he made me listen, read and finally talk after a couple of days. My expectations on language practice were met with 100%. If you want to learn to speak Italian this is definitely a good place to go! I helped him 2 sunny days to pick olives and really liked this kind of agricultural experience. He also showed me how the olives are processed to oil, and the taste of the virgin oil on toasted bread was delicious. He presented me to his Italian branch of the family and took me on excursions to the antique market of Arezzo, a concert, a mass and the exposition of the agriturisme.
I would definitly recommend this place for a workaway stay. Welcoming hosts, no hard work, a nice house, possibilities enough to explore Tuscany - you cannot ask for more. Thank you, Grace and Giancarlo, for your hospitality. I am sad to leave and hope you will find a new workawayer who keeps you with company in your lovely home. And welcome to Norway at any time!
