Descrição
Our property is on the shore of the Waimea Inlet near Māpua Village. The estuary is home to many wading birds and most of our work is restoring the intertidal estuary margin and regenerating coastal forest. Our project is to increase numbers of endangered wading birds by restoring their natural habitat and trapping predators. We also have an ever expanding vegetable garden and home orchard.

Volunteers can learn about our habitat restoration project, and about the birds and plants around our beautiful tidal inlet.

Autumn/Winter tasks is planting and weeding around the inlet shore and in the coastal forest. Spring/Summer there is more vegetable gardening.

We have a comfortable caravan with heating and good internet. Also a separate bathroom and kitchen. We buy all food. Also there are lots of fresh herbs and vegetables and fruit in the garden, especially in summer. Volunteers cook for themselves in their own kitchen.

We have bicycles you can borrow to go to the village or to explore the area. There are 3 National Parks nearby for helpers who like to go tramping . (Abel Tasman, Kahurangi, Nelson Lakes). Also beaches and rivers within easy driving distance. Also kayaks and paddleboards for using on the Inlet.

Elspeth is an excellent host. She is very generous and good fun to be around. She communicates well and we loved learning about the native trees that we were planting. Her property has the most beautiful birds, trees and is close to the amazing Abel Tasman National Park ad Nelson if you experience a wet week. We can't wait to come back!

Eleanor and Lex were excellent volunteers. They did a lot of weeding, planting native trees, mowing lawns and more. They are a very good team .

Loved staying in here for a week! Wholesome, peaceful location right next to the water, comfortable and cosy accommodation with bikes, kayaks and paddle boards to borrow. I had a fantastic time here. The location is peaceful and serene, it's great to be able to go out on the water. Elspeth was a marvelous host and very generous. The accomodation was cool and had everything you could want. I highly recommend as it was a beautiful experience spending time here.
