What do I do?
A little bit of everything.
Mostly pet-sitting and volunteering,
taking pictures while I’m traveling

I’ve done a lot, I’m doing even more, and there’s still so much I want to explore. I’m Ilse, a 25-year-old Dutch graduate, freelance photographer, and all-around creative. For the past year, I’ve been solo traveling and volunteering, mostly through Workaway and TrustedHouseSitters. This slower, freer lifestyle suits me far better than the fast-paced one I left behind in the Netherlands.

I was born and raised in the city and never really saw myself as a “nature person,” but now I feel most at peace in natural settings, permaculture projects, or small villages. A lot is still new to me, but I’m eager to learn and happy to help where I can, if you let/trust me :) Most of my recent stays have been in nature, where I’ve helped with everything from gardening and DIY projects to painting, renovating, cleaning, and animal care.

I’m vibrant, creative, open-minded, and hands-on. While I do spend some time editing and designing for work, I much prefer being outside and offline. I love staying active, hiking, yoga, running, trying new sports, but also enjoy more low-key, “grandma-style” hobbies like baking, cooking, writing, and crafting.

Past hosts have appreciated my mindset and creative input. Even though I’m only 25, I’ve often been told I’m wise for my age. I’m not into partying or wasting time. I’m more focused on meaningful experiences, learning, building habits and good company.

KEEP IN MIND/BEFORE YOU REACH OUT TO ME
- If we vibe, I can be quite chatty, which often surprises people, because I still consider myself an introvert and need plenty of time alone. I much prefer Workaways with fewer people around, where I can take things at my own pace and enjoy some solitude.
- Just like I naturally connect with animals (and they tend to like me!), I don’t have that same connection with children. So I’m not interested in any Workaways involving childcare at this point.
