I live my life by 4 mottos (and a whole bunch of slogans). They all lead into the next, a full account of an adventure to come and adventures of past. In my travels I strive to be be a lot of things, but most of all, kind. Other things as well, but mainly kind. At home I help lead a troop of scouts, kids aged 11-17 (though often work with younger scouts as well). My time in scouts molded my life, instilled a love for teaching, mentoring, and exploring into the unknown. I love the wonder of youth and strive to be a role model to every kid I meet. I love the outdoors, the mountains, the forests, the cold and the wet or the hot and the dry. I love telling stories and sharing my life, and as such I've become a filmmaker, even winning an Emmy for my work. I love having fun. And through it all, I kept coming back to 4 mottos:

"What could possibly go wrong?" - The age old question, the famous last words. A statement oft made by the foolish and the brave. Me? I'm probably a bit of both, but in a good way I promise. It's an intro into the unknown. The first stepping stone, the question that must be asked before any great journey. Some people do all they can to mitigate what can go "wrong", planning their trip to every last minute. But that's what separates a trip from an adventure. A tourist from a traveler. One takes it as a challenge to mitigate, one asks it rhetorically; a mental note with every new step.

"One way to find out" - What's over there? Can I do this oddly specific thing? Do I like this food I've never seen before? One way to find out. The statement that points me in the crazy zigzag of my life, pushing me through those tinges of anxiety so I can greet the world. I believe this especially applies to cultures. You can read about them all you want, but there's really only one way to find out what they're like: live it, even just for a moment. It also helps with meeting new people, so maybe I don't have to find out alone.

"100 bad days make 100 good stories" - Sometimes the adventures don't pan out as you hoped. And that's okay, because in the end they make a pretty good story to tell. In the summer of 2021 I helped lead a group of scouts on a journey through the mountains of New Mexico. We had 12 days to cover 145 km, top 5 major mountain peaks, and have the adventure of a lifetime. About halfway through, the day came for us to climb our highest mountain: Mount Baldy. Cresting at 3729 meters, the trail rose almost 750 meters in just a few kilometers. The hike was arduous. Several kids needed encouragement to believe in their abilities (and some weight taken off their pack). In the end, we made it. The view was spectacular, life-changing even, but we had not long to appreciate it. In the distance, a thunderstorm was spotted heading our way--and fast. Storms in these areas are unpredictable, and this one was living up to the descriptor, coming in hours sooner than expected. Being well above the tree line, if lightening struck, we'd be it's first target. Suddenly, it was a matter of safety. I rounded up the 9 exhausted teens in my charge and we started moving down the mountain, conveniently in the direction of the storm. As we slid down the face of loose shale that we clambered up not but an hour before, a sharp piece jutted out and cut into my leg. Though it hurt, there were more pressing issues at hand. The time between the lightening and the thunder was shortening. In the not-so-distant distance we could see the bolts of electricity strike the treetops below. We were caught out in a bit of an unfortunate situation. Some might even call it an slight inconvenience, or maybe even a particularly dangerous point in time. In the moment, I was calling it "kind of fun actually." As we scuttled down the steep trail, rain pouring down and the wind whipping around us, eventually we were able to make it to the tree line. Safer? Maybe. Safe? Not quite. The trail twisted and turned down the mountain, with each careful step bringing us closer to shelter, and somehow, closer together. In due time, we would make it, mostly all in one piece. Some of us were on the border of hypothermia, some of us were banged up by the swinging branches and sharp rocks. Fortunately, my leg wasn't hurt too bad and only needed some simple bandaging. We sat down, made some hot cocoa, and as the storm eventually went on it's way, we returned to our campsite. We all sat around the fire and felt a little warmer. Through it all, we bonded just a little bit more. And together, we agreed, that was a bad day. But hey, it made a good story, didn't it?

"I'm not dead yet so I guess I'll be alright" - Basically as it says.

So that's me. I don't want to just see the world, I want to meet the people that make it home. And I'd love to meet you.

Quais são suas habilidades?

Firstly, I love teaching. Whether it be English, how to build a campfire, or practical skills of life, sharing my knowledge brings me joy. Being a scout leader, over the years I've gotten quite good at it as well. Also from my time leading scouts, I have been told I'm great with kids.

I'm also a filmmaker, and though I may not be a Hollywood director (yet), I am constantly building my craft and love to share it with others. I have even won an Emmy for my works.

I also love camping, and as such have many useful outdoor skills ranging from tying knots to wilderness survival.

Perhaps more practically, I know my way around a toolbox (to an extent) and can help out with handyman jobs, though I may have to be taught how to do them.

In all, I've been told I'm a quick learner and a great teacher. I'm not afraid to try new things and get my hands dirty, so even if I don't know what I'm doing right off the bat, I'll be able to figure it out with a little bit of guidance :)
