Seb is still young but an experienced staff member, and he has a wealth of knowledge not only about working at the guesthouse, also about mountain maintenance and DIY. He was always proactive in his work. He was scheduled to work for two months but ended up working for more than six months, and throughout this time, other staff and guests were very satisfied with his service. He also played a lot with our son and enjoys playing with children. Our son loves him too. We are truly grateful for his work. We highly recommend Seb to everyone. It was a great contribution to the our team! Arigato. Seb, You rock!

Pia’s profile is incredibly detailed and very accurate, so do yourself a favor and actually read it carefully. My partner Lilli and I stayed on her finca for the month of October, living in the Ermita. We arrived pretty confident in our off-grid abilities… and the finca quickly reminded us that confidence and reality are not the same thing. There’s no running water. Electricity likes to take personal days. And you will redefine your views on hygiene. We had a leaking roof during big storms, rats who treated the attic like a late-night snack bar, and the constant challenge of living without a refrigerator. But honestly, this is exactly what we wanted, we came for off-grid life, and we got it. We left more capable, more grounded, and with a much deeper appreciation for simplicity. Spanish lessons with Pia were a whole experience. Her “Spanish drilling” method works incredibly well, but the real magic was the classroom environment, the dogs and horses always joined. Imagine trying to focus on conjugations while a dog tail keeps slapping you in the face, a feeding mare fends off another, or two dogs start arguing mid sentence. Pure chaos, but somehow effective. My Spanish improved way more than I expected. Now, Pia herself is a character in the best possible way. We’re genuinely grateful for everything she did for us. She took us on family excursions through nearby towns, gave us a crash course in Andalusian culture, and definitely pushed us out of our comfort zones… sometimes gently, sometimes with a friendly shove. I now understand the region far better, feeling as though I actually lived it instead of just visited. There were plenty of memorable moments, but one that stands out is when Pia accidentally ran over my backpack full of groceries. To be fair, it was my fault for putting it in a horrible spot. But watching nine out of twelve eggs explode inside my travel backpack bag was an emotional journey of its own. The clean-up was… educational. We all laughed about it later, after I recovered. Life on the finca never slows down. On the very last day, when we thought things might finally be quiet, the dogs cornered a goat and had to be very seriously persuaded to leave her alone. There is also Gulliver who is quite the character and the instigator to much of the chaos who also suffers carsickness on almost every ride, turning simple trips into sympathy and clean-up missions. There is always something happening, and that becomes part of the charm. The work was hands-on and genuinely satisfying. We built stone carpets for the horses and vehicles, helped bring the new water tank “Peppa Pig” into existence, and constructed the platform for the future water tank at the Ermita — a project we were really proud of. The labor wasn’t too intense, and there was plenty of time off to enjoy ourselves. A great balance of independence and shared moments. One thing to know: communication is key with Pia. Be clear, be honest, and ask questions. She’s straightforward and appreciates when you are too. If you want more details about our experience, feel free to message me.

Pam and Nigel were an absolute pleasure to have stay with us. They were both very capable and dedicated workers. It was great to have Nigel's expertise when tackling a number of handy person jobs. And Pam worked tirelessly to help us dig out the invasive montretia from our land. They are both kind, considerate and warm people who we gelled very easily with. Their sweet old dog was no bother and got on with our own boy. They would be an asset to any project and we would welcome them back any time.

Accommodation 5/5 - exactly what you would expect at this stage of the project. It was good, even though we didn't have much privacy, they provided us with a mattress and a mosquito net and made us feel comfortable. Work 4/5 - For a 4-week stay, I expected to learn and do many more different things, but hey, work is work. I did learn a couple of valuable things, even though the hosts put too much pressure to do housework (excluded from the normal 5 hours of work), which often took up to 7 hours a day and didn't leave me enough energy or time to enjoy the rest of the day. I suggest integrating housework into the 5 hours of daily work. Hosts: Jannis #redacted# - a very chill guy, although sometimes very blunt and direct, he knows how to make you feel at ease and gives you a lot of freedom in how you manage your day. Always ready to go surfing together and helps you with this. Emma #redacted# - Unfortunately, I can't say many positive things about her. We started our experience together very well, and I could see how passionate and serious she was about her project. But in the last few days, everything went terribly wrong. Although we cleared up a misunderstanding caused by poor communication on both sides, she continued to be angry and made me feel uncomfortable. I can't say everything I would like to, because it would be unprofessional and very personal. I was happy with the experience, but this #redacted# person made everything worse at the last minute. For this reason, I can't leave a positive review. #redacted# I wish her all the best anyway. Overall experience 3/5 - Apart from the last few moments, it was a really enjoyable and valuable experience. The place is beautiful, the animals are adorable (although I'm not entirely convinced it's right to keep two large dogs in such a small space all day, and one of them is quite aggressive), we watched movies and went on a wonderful hike together, and I really enjoyed myself. However, there were some negative aspects. Long housework, poor communication, some discomfort... I would have liked to recommend it anyway for the positive aspects, but #redacted# I just can't do it. I'm quite sad, a nice experience ruined in 24 hours. I'm writing this after a month, because this was my first workaway experience and I really needed another one, so that I could gain some perspective before giving my opinion. And I spoke to the other two girls I was working with, who weren't very enthusiastic about this experience.

I really had the best time for the 6 months that I got to spend at the city community!! I met amazing people throughout my placement and I'll be forever grateful for the experience. I loved to get to know the young people living there and developing meaningful connections. I would recommend this workaway to anyone who has an interest in working in care work or social work, as it is a very human experience and requires a certain level of involvement in the community. It is more demanding than most workaways in a way that you do have responsabilities as you are working with vulnerable people with difficult backgrounds. I would totally recommend it to people who are looking for experience in the care work field or to try it out. I personally loved it and had so much fun all along. The community is very welcoming and I felt supported during my placement. Also, Edinburgh is a great city to live in, with so much to see and to do. It's definitely worth visiting.

Erik and Quintus were a friendly, polite, and quiet duo who were respectful of our home and easy to host. They completed all tasks with a great attitude and took good care of the apartment during their stay. With guidance, they were super willing, helpful and reliable in their work. Overall, we appreciated having them join us for the harvest and hope they enjoyed the experience.

We had the most wonderful time at the farm with Niklas and Märta! The place is beautiful, secluded, and quite enchanting. There were endless things to busy ourselves with, and surrounding nature to explore. We really enjoyed the amount of freedom and trust that they gave us; they are both very kindhearted, open, and generous people. We would thoroughly recommend this experience, it was a very happy time - we would love to return! :)

Miri and Marci are simply wonderful human beings - that we could go on and on about how incredible they are. Besides being so hard working, helpful, and motivated, they were simply a joy to be around. We trust them whole heartedly, and feel grateful that they joined us for this harvest. There's so many good things to say that I would keep it short and sweet and tell any other host that they are an honour to host. We are so hopeful that we will see them again in the future!

I spent a week and a half with Andrew and Laura. We harvested olives, milked goats, and tended the garden. I learned a lot about their culture and grew to appreciate olive harvesting haha. They are wonderful people with wonderful neighbors, and they live in a beautiful place too. I helped them with some extra work and they even gave me an extra day off! A wonderful experience.

I hosted Marie-Louise for 10 days. She taught German to me every day and to Keila,13 years old, when she was at home. Marie Louise also cleaned the flat a bit evey day. We also celebrated Halloween with Azra, 11, and Romario, 10. She did much more that I expected and I’m very grateful for that. Marie-Louise was a discrete and délicate guest, she is generous and easy-going. I was really happy to host her. Thanks you.

It was my first workaway experience and it was wonderfull. I tend to be a little shy at first but Martina and Ernest were always gentle and they did their best to make me feel at home. I went with Yume, my female border collie, and we were able to do lots of different activities! Walks and hikes in the woods nearby the house, playing in the beautiful grass fields, also training indoors or outdoors (Martina and Ernest even let us use training tools like platforms, dumbbells and cones). We had the opportunity to do a sheepdog lesson, try rally-O and even participate in the group excercises in Obedience competitions! The work was fair. I helped everyday with the chickens (giving food and water/taking the eggs) and during the week I would help outside or inside (cleaning the house, cooking, loading/unloading the dishwasher, picking up leaves ecc...) I already miss the walks in the woods with all the dogs and, as I already said, Martina and Ernest were really welcoming people. I hope one day I'll be able to come back!

Louisa and Stuart were incredible people and their property is a stunning place to volunteer. I also need to mention the lovely dogs that make you feel like you are at home . Our routine included mainly harvesting, watering the plants, weeding and prepare the soil for planting. In between we did a number of cool activities, local visits (winery, lake, market, etc.), and every night after dinner we would have fun chats and play boardgames. Louisa is the best chef in the area so we were spoiled by her cooking! Thank you so much!

Spending two months on the island truly made me feel like a new person. Thanks to Birte and Rune, I got to experience Norwegian life in various ways—from fishing in Lurefjorden to Taco Friday, from singing Norwegian songs to diving into the North Sea. Birte is such a caring, cool, and inspiring person who made me feel welcome and at home from the very first day. She’s always active and likes having a very full schedule—though she also appreciates moments of relaxation. Somehow, she manages to keep all of her interests together thanks to her incredible organizational skills. She can be direct if something is not done the way she wants, and she doesn't like laziness… but this actually helped me learn how to do things properly and efficiently! You don’t need any special skills to apply: just a willingness to learn, a love for nature, focus, and adaptability. But if you do have particular skills (which I sadly didn’t T-T), be ready to share them and challenge yourself with some very cool projects! The daily work isn’t hard at all; mostly feeding and cleaning for the lovely animals, plus other tasks depending on the season. The landscapes are absolutely stunning. If you are lucky, you might enjoy beautiful sunsets, rainbows, and maybe even the Northern Lights. And on clear nights, make sure to look up at the millions of stars! Last but not least, I have to mention all the delicious food Birte prepared for me! I especially loved her cakes, but we also enjoyed many traditional Norwegian dishes—fish cakes, deer hearts, meatballs, soups, and even fårikål, which we tried at another farm. All in all, I’ll carry every memory with me for a long time. I’m incredibly grateful for the people, the nature, and everything I learned. Thank you, Birte and Rune, for this adventure! <3

Living in an old wooden boat for 3 weeks was an unique experience with a healthy dose of comfort challanges which made it more interesting. The project at the heart of the boat experience it is promising and adventurous, using inovative technology to promote and prepare the boat to set sail around the world. Merci a toi et Bon voyage a la mer, prochainement!
