I had a good experience volunteering for Jake and Jo. The work was fair, interesting, and clearly communicated. They are flexible enough that I could somewhat tailor my experience but also laid out clear expectations (5hrs of work/day). I came during the olive season so l had 2 long days (8hrs) and took two days off. The olive harvest was hard work but rewarding and a unique experience. If you enjoy climbing trees and/or a good shoulder workout this may be a good job for you. The olive season is at the end of Oct-Nov. The area is cool, there are lots of bohemian people that have interesting stories, and live their own lives aside from the bustle of contemporary culture. I got to experience some events in the community and I was grateful for the cultural experience. Overall, I had a good experience, and I appreciated Jake and Jo's hospitality, flexibility and kindness.

I stayed with Ania and her family for a month, and it was a wonderful experience! I felt as a part of the family - they are very welcoming and chill, and I was helping with cooking, cleaning, and taking the kids to school. I was also working remotely myself, but Ania was very cooperative, and it was possible to combine with the workaway help. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family! :))

Chiara stayed with us in June together with her 10-year-old niece, who bravely helped with the tasks. From the very first message Chiara was warm and open. She helped me paint a large mural on the wall of the old stable — she is an incredibly talented artist and I am thrilled with her work; we understood each other almost without words. Chiara brought a pleasant, cheerful atmosphere to our home and was always ready to help with the animals, in the garden and around the farm. She quickly fitted in like a member of the family. In one word: a perfect volunteer. I highly recommend her and hope we’ll have the chance to paint together again. Thank you, Chiara!

It was great to host Jule on the farm. She fit right in with everyone, friendly, happy to help out with whatever needed doing on the farm, with animals, in the garden and down the paddock. She was great to chat to and we wish you all the best on the next part of your travel adventures 🙏

Rebecca has been a pleasure to host over the past ~ 7 weeks. It has been great having her on the farm and we appreciate all your help. She is a friendly caring intelligent lady, with great attention to detail, hardworking, keen to learn new things around the farm, talented pianist, and also great with the animals. I believe my dog wanted to go back to Germany with you ☺️ Have a wonderful road trip ahead and safe travels back home ✈️

We enjoyed hosting Jake at our place over the past 9 or so weeks although he was only initially planning to stay a month. He was great to chat with and was great with checking things/keeping us up to speed on where things were as initially he came to help whilst we were away overseas. He helped mostly in the gardens until after we were able to teach him more about the horses and other parts of the farm etc when we came back. We hope you enjoyed learning on the farm. Jake was fun, friendly, easy going and got along well with the other helpers and our family, and he is a talented musician too. We appreciate you sharing your taco experiences and also enjoyed playing taco cat goat cheese pizza 😆 Best of luck on your road trip and for future travels through Oz.

We really enjoyed our time working with Sumi and the kids! Sumi is incredibly kind, caring, and inspiring. We spent most of our time playing with and supervising the kids while exposing them to some English. It was also a great opportunity for us to practice Japanese. We were encouraged to get creative and facilitate activities, which we had a lot of fun doing. When we weren't spending time with the kids, we did a bit of gardening and painting around the school. Sumi created the non-profit out of care and passion for providing an alternative for kids who struggle with the public education system. It was truly a pleasure being part of it. The working hours were very reasonable and we had a lot of time to explore the area. Sumi went out of her way to make sure that we had everything we needed and were comfortable both in our accommodation and at work. We would definitely recommend working with Sumi if you enjoy spending time with kids and have the energy to keep up with them!

I can’t express how much I enjoyed my workaway at 조 and 정선’s farm! They are such warm and welcoming hosts, taking a lot of care of us and making sure we were comfortable and had a good time. There was always a lot of banter going on, which made even the hardest work on the fields feel easy. The work was always fair, they paid a lot of attention to keeping the working hours and there were regular breaks. They also provided clothes and boots for working which especially helped during the colder and/or sunnier days. Most working days, 정선 was cooking absolutely delicious meals worthy of featuring at a Michelin star restaurant. I learned so much about Korean food and creative cooking from her! It was also just so amazing to eat the fresh organic vegetables directly from the farm. Apart from teaching us about organic farming, 조 also shared his wisdom on buddhism, meditation and we learned a lot! The farm is really out in the sticks so you can enjoy the calm and quiet nature. There are plenty of things to do on days off/ after work: There are a number of hiking paths in the immediate proximity of the farm that are worth exploring and there’s even a swimming spot nearby for warm days. If you miss the city life, Gyeongju is also easy to reach by bus and is a really fun city to explore. 조 and 정선 also took us out on little adventures around the area, which allowed us to see a lot. The kimchi making at the beginning of November was an especially rewarding experience. It was a lot of work to make kimchi at this scale but also extremely fun to work together as a big team! When writing this, I’ve only been away for a few days now and I already miss 조, 정선,the amazing food and the farm. Can’t recommend volunteering here enough!

Emily was a lovely person to host, she fit right in with the team and although she had to leave for the animal sanctuary earlier than planned we appreciate all her contributions to helping around the farm. Hope all is going well up north!

I had a wonderful time with Marta and her family. They all were very welcome, friendly and always absolutely nice! I enjoyed the familylife and also, the animals (dogs, cats and chickens) were very nice. The house, the property and the surroundings are very impressiv and I enjoyed the great landscape and the beautiful view. Also, the projects and tasks were great, it was always something different and I learned new things. Marta is a lovely person and I´m so glad to have met her. Alex and Claire are wonderful people. They are very open and they host volenteers for all the right reasons. They were there for us whenever possible and tried to spend time with us, but also leaving us enough private time and space. I think this is a very fine line to walk and they are really doing a great job at it :). I always had the feeling that we are in this as a team, not just the volunteers but also Alex and Claire. It is not that often that you find people who put so much heart into hosting volunteers. And in doing so they made my stay very pleasant eventhough the circumstances might not have been perfect. Quick shoutout to all the volunteers who are reeding this: The Oliveharvest is no easy job, but it is rewarding and it was very much fun to me. Working as a team and finishing the day as one is just great. If you have a day off (which most likely is a rainy day) take the car around the mountains, the weather might be better just a few villages ahead ;). Or ask Alex for a church history tour, those are great!!

I have to say I was very lucky to have Lubo as a Workawayer in my place. He came all the way to Japan from Sweden through many countries and arrive here in the summer when it was super hot. First of all, he is a very nice and friendly guy. He is as old as me but got along with younger Workawayers very well, and everyone loved him. He is very skilled with DIY works, and he definitely helped renovating one room a lot. He can make a plan about how to renovate a room and instruct younger Workawayers how to work. As a result, the room became very beautiful while Workawayers were enjoying working with him. In addition, he proactively cleaned the rooms and organized the things which I was very impressed. I hope he will come back here some day, and I highly recommend him to any Workaway hosts!

I stayed Valeria house for two weeks, and Catania was such a beautiful city full of history. Valelia is incredibly intelligent, strong, kind, and also sensitive and charming!! Above all, I truly felt she is a wonderful mother. Even with her busy schedule, she manages everything at home, and I was treated to many delicious homemade meals. I’m really grateful for everything. The house is very clean and secure. I had my own private room with a dedicated bathroom, and I was able to stay comfortably. One of the luckiest things during my stay was being able to join her daughter’s 18th birthday party. I’m sure the preparation was a lot of work, but being part of such an important event for Italian families became a very special memory for me. My experience here was truly valuable. The tasks—pool care, house cleaning, and some garden maintenance—were not difficult, and I also had plenty of free time. I enjoyed exploring Catania, and I even took day trips to Mount Etna, Siracusa, Taormina, and Messina. The public transport from the house is a little limited, but once you get used to the buses and metro, getting around is quite manageable. I’m grateful for such a wonderful to meet. I would be very happy to visit again someday. Thanks again Valelia.

Jeanne and her friend Sarah were a joy to have around. We had good and fun conversations and Jeanne showed a big interest in many things, which got her to know finally who the famous Monsieur Creosote is. Apart from helping us with olive picking they did the dishes and even cooked once for us which we appreciate very much. We can 100% recommend her.

Anna and Honza stayed with us at the end of the summer for two weeks, which passed too quickly. They were such a sweet couple, whose teamwork was excellent. They both were very kind, polite, tidy, multiskilled and intelligent with a good sense of humour. During their stay they built and fixed a lot of bigger and smaller things here and there, being very skilled in using different tools. Honza helped in designing and starting the foundation for the new gazebo, which hopefully will be constructed next summer. They took good care of the animals and kept the kitchen nice tidy, in addition to all other various tasks they did during those couple of weeks in the yard and the garden. We really enjoyed their cooking, having the opportunity to taste many Czech specialities. We shared may interesting discussions many good laughs over the dinners! We also made nice outings to the forest to forage mushrooms and berries. A detail worth mentioning is that they spoke English, not Czech, with each other whenever there were other people around, which is actually a very nice thing to do. It was a pleasure to host them, hoping to see them again!

We spent one week at Peter and Ann's place with my friend Sarah during the olive harvest. We felt very welcomed, the Workaway house is very pretty and comfortable. We had a great time with our lovely hosts and fellow volunteers at work and during meals, and we're thankful to Peter for sharing his knowledge about bees and the nature around with us, and to Ann for making sure our every needs were met. This is definitely a perfect Workaway, with everything being very nicely organised, we warmly recommend.

Jason is a pleasant, energetic, and enthusiastic person with a very open attitude. He integrated quickly into our community and volunteer team, fully engaging with the courses and retreats offered at the center. He approached each task with eagerness and positivity, contributing meaningfully to the center’s activities.

Matěj stayed with us for about two weeks and helped with various building and repair projects in the garage and around the house. He was appreciative of the space and respectful of our home. He is not a noisy person, and the atmosphere in the house stayed calm while he was here. We shared many meals together and played Catan a couple of evenings. He mentioned he enjoyed the tranquility of our mountain life. We wish him all the best on his onward travels.
