🌊 Welcome to Our Bayside Home Near Melbourne (Nov 2025 Onwards!)

We’re a blended DIY family in a peaceful bayside village (100km from Melbourne), reopening our home to Workawayers after a hosting break. With our youngest finishing high school in November 2025, we’re excited to share our near-empty nest just minutes from the beach!

Your Role:

Help 20 hrs/week with hands-on projects: interior painting & gardening (no expertise needed—just a positive attitude!).

Join family meals & light chores (cooking/clean-up).

We Offer:
🛌 Two private rooms + shared bathroom
→ Ideal for solo travellers or two friends traveling independently (max 2 guests total)

November 2025: Both rooms open — perfect for two solo travelers or unassociated friends sharing common areas!

Emily was like a breath of fresh air. Our time with Emily was very positive. Right from the get go when Emily first got in touch with us, she was not backward in coming forward and asking questions about things she was interested in knowing more about. Before getting to know Emily we thought that this might be because she might be a bit nervous… read more about staying with a family she did not know. This was not the case, as we discovered her driving motivation was to see whether there would be an opportunity for her to explore some of her creative interests while she stayed with us. Emily was led to ask for a stay with us because she saw that we were fellow music lovers and we dabbled in amateur performance.
Emily was very adaptable too. When she first organised her stay with us, it was done with the understanding that she would be staying with us on her own. After we had made plans with Emily, we received another enquiry from another female traveller whose stay would overlap with Emily's. Emily was great about sharing the caravan accommodation with Rio and when they met, they quickly formed a friendship and to everyone's surprise, including their own, they formed a duo and performed at two Open Mic's during their stay. It was wonderful to see these two girls step out of their comfort zone and perform. They are both talented and now they have gotten their toes wet with performing, they are both keen to do more. This is one thing we had not anticipated to be a part of our Workaway journey, but you never know where the road is going to lead you when you embark on a new adventure and we were delighted to see we could take a hand in encouraging young people to pursue their musical dreams.
Emily was keen to turn her hand to whatever task was asked of her and it was lovely to see her work cooperatively with Rio. They made a great team and did many helpful tasks like reorganise our butler's pantry, linen cupboard and storage room, to cleaning the windows until they sparkled, to polishing silver. The girls were fastidious in all the tasks they undertook. I think the thing they both derived the most satisfaction from was custom fitting an exterior staircase with carpet tread. Their was an array of skill sets needed to complete this task and the girls were both driven to do the task to the highest standard. They learnt new skills in the process. One thing we find as hosts is that Workaway travellers love applying themselves to hands on tasks where they are doing something new and learning a new skill set. As was the case with Emily and Rio; it was touching to see how proud they both were of their achievement.
Emily kept stepping in the direction of her dreams and came out on top!
We are very happy to reccommend Emily to any future Workaway hosts or employers.

The phrase which I used most often when we were lucky enough to have Jana come and stay with our family for over a month was "but wait there's more!" and this phrase fits a description of Jana and all her vast array of talents and abilities very aptly. When I turn my mind to the things which Jana undertook in her time with us, the list will be… read more long and then I will remark again and again, "but wait there's more!" Jana came to stay with us at what was the busiest, most stressful and chaotic time imaginable. We were in the midst of a DIY home renovation and a move from a rental into the home we were renovating. Jana displayed an enormous amount of adaptability in being moved from pillar to post quite literally. Jana showed an enormous amount of practical common sense and awareness of what was needed in terms of help and just applied herself 100% to every task she undertook. Her favourite saying when asked to do something was "Yeah sure, no worries". She showed amazing attention to detail in tasks she undertook like sanding and painting. I watched in awe as she packed my car boot (of which I think there may be a photo in her profile) like it was a game of tetrus with barely a spare inch to be seen.
Jana knew that we were working to a deadline to get as much done as possible before Clive had his knee replacement surgery and so she gave of herself above and beyond what we ever could have foreseen asking her to do.
If I forget to mention anything, if Jana said she did it for us then believe her. It is a long list.

Baking
Cooking
Cleaning
But wait there's more and this speaks volumes of what a thoughtful kindhearted person Jana is... when Jana came to stay with us we told her we would treat her like a part of the family and in kind, when I celebrated my 50th birthday while Jana was staying with us, she stayed up late the night before my birthday to bake me a cheese cake and then the next morning got up early to make a continental breakfast including pancakes to die for. The table was set to perfection and there was a sweet bouquet of flowers picked from the garden. I am eternally grateful to Jana for going to such great lengths to make sure that I had an unforgettable birthday.
She was a friend to all the children too.
We really miss Jana; having her in our family was a gift we will treasure forever.
You will truly be enriched in having Jana stay with you.
