Salmon Arm sits on the edge of Shuswap Lake, surrounded by mountains, with endless skiing/hiking/biking trails. We are in the country yet a 5 min drive from town, or 40 min. walk. We are on the city bus route as well or travel by E-bus.

There are lovely walking trails all the way into town. Within walking distance to Little Mountain Park with beautiful forested trails and a viewpoint where you can see all of Salmon Arm and the vastness of Shuswap Lake. If you have a mountain bike, you will be in heaven. Also near gym, Rec Centre, Ski Hills/trails, Stables.

Salmon Arm is within a 15 – 25 min drive to approx. 6 other small communities to explore with beaches, rivers, waterfalls, ski and hiking trails.

Salmon Arm is half way between Vancouver and Calgary and a little more than an hour from Kamloops and Kelowna. We are 20 min from endless cross-country ski trails and anywhere from one to 1.5 hrs away from 4-5 ski mountains, and there is a bus that runs from Salmon Arm to some of the ski hills.

Seeking self-motivated, independent workers that are happy to work on their own or with others.

Between now - November - till the beginning of December, there is still lots to do outdoors if you happen to be passing through and looking for a place to stay. Raking, turning soil, yard clean up, etc.

Currently it would be most helpful to have anyone with skills in carpentry and other trades for indoor work as it will soon be pretty cold outside. Please let us know if you are an arborist or if you have extended experience with a chainsaw or other tools.

For winter outdoor work, come December......there will be snow shovelling when the snow arrives, as well as hauling wood in and keeping the fire going. Most indoor work will require some handyman or trade skills.

Your room is located on the lower level of the house (we are upstairs) with access to a full kitchen to prepare your meals (see more detail below) also a living room, bathroom, and dining room all shared with bnb guests &/or other helpers.

Your room has a dresser, closet, double bed and rocking chair with lamp for evening reading. This small cozy room has 2 doors – one leading directly to outside, the other is into the kitchen.

Please let us know if you will be traveling with your own accommodation ~ we have lots of room to park your van or RV

Walking trails are plentiful and just across the road, hiking trails just down the road.

I would LOVE if someone had the skills to build a small roadside veggie stand. . If you have the desire, the skills, and experience to work on your own building/creating/renos, you will not run out of things to do. A second residence on the property needs work, and is a nice place to work when the weather is too wet and cold. Also would serve nicely as a workshop.

Just let us know about all the skills you have and enjoy and I am sure we can find somewhere to put you to work.

In the gardens we need help with:

    General yard work
    Preparing the gardens for winter
    Cleaning/organizing
Handyman Skilled people always have lots to keep them busy here
If you are a arborist & love it, we shall keep you happy

May also include some general cleaning in garage or house

We do not have farm animals, just a cheeky kitty that loves to meet newcomers.

    Questions:
    What are your hobbies?
What work do you LOVE to do and what types of work do you not love as much??

How would you like to spend your days off?
Do you have a car or vehicle?
    What are your hobbies?
Do you prefer to work early mornings, or later in the afternoon till evening?
What would you like to learn about?
Are you comfortable working in all weather conditions?
Is this your first Workaway experience?

Lots to learn during planting, harvesting, preserving seasons, not so much in the winter.
Good for someone that has trade skills throughout the cold dark winters ~ as then there will be work throughout the Winter. Without skills, then work is limited to cleaning, organizing, shovelling snow, firewood.

There are local buses to and from town. If you have your own car, just a 5 min. drive to town,
Lots of hiking and biking trails.
Winter months there is a bus from Salmon Arm to the Ski Hills. Withing 1 hr to some ski hills and 1.5hrs to 4 others. If you are interested in skiing, you could work longer days for more time off to hit the hills. Skiing usually starts sometime in November/Dec.

If you fish, bring your rod along ~ ice fishing too!
A recent helper fished in the evenings and brought home trout to cook over the fire.

I will often invite others to join us in cooking over the campfire for a weekend social so as helpers can meet others and have a fun evening.

Salmon Arm usually has many opportunities for you to enjoy live music although, these days, nothing is a guarantee.

During the Fall and Winter months, we need help with:
    Preparing the gardens for winter
    General yard help
    Firewood
May also include some general cleaning in garage or house.
Weekly cleaning of suite you may be sharing with guests.
Please bring work gloves, boots, and warm clothing for winter
Once the snow flies, there will be indoor help, depending on your skills, as well as snow shovelling and firewood

Lots of Handyman/Carpentry help to be done should you prefer that. If you have the desire, the skills, and experience to work on your own, you will not run out of things to do. A second residence on the property needs work, and is a nice place to work when the weather is too wet and cold. Just let us know about all your skills you would like to exercise, and we will find a place to use them.

We do not have farm animals, just a cheeky kitty.

Let us know if you will be working here in the area, or working from your computer while here, should we need to make work schedule adjustments.

Your room is located on the lower level of the house, (we are upstairs) with a full kitchen for you to prepare your meals, living room and dining room. When other guests or workers are here, these areas may be shared and guests will have priority usage.

Guests have often commented how quiet it is here, and how they feel like they are the only ones around. Works well, as most guests are gone all day, make a quick meal and then disappear into their rooms. Each room has a desk and rocking chair so they are comfortable in their own private space.

Your room has a dresser, place to hang clothing, double bed and rocking chair with lamp for evening reading. The room has 2 doors – one leading directly to outside, the other is into the kitchen.

The bathroom may also be shared from time to time, and has a toilet, sink, and shower. Guests staying here often leave early a.m. for work and return in the evening for dinner and usually retire to their rooms. I generally only accept guests that are in town for temporary work. Helpers are expected to do a quick sanitize of bathroom after each use.

Please let us know if you will be traveling with your own accommodation ~ we have lots of room to park your van or RV, as well as for tenting should you prefer that.

Walking trails are plentiful and just across the road, more challenging hiking trails just down the road. Due to covid, you may prefer to do your own shopping for less hours of work for the first week. Open for discussion.

As you will have your own kitchen to prepare your meals, feel free to create and enjoy your own meals.
In your kitchen, you will find it stocked with:
*** Oatmeal, cereal, bread, eggs, rice, pasta, pasta sauces, macaroni & cheese
    *** Wraps, bread, bagels
*** Canned beans, soups, pasta sauces
*** Frozen foods: Pizza, meat pies, pre-made meals, perogies, frozen veggies, hash browns
*** Potatoes, Carrots, Lettuce (salad fixings) apples, oranges, celery, squash, tomatoes, onions, and a few other veggies.

If I find that the fresh items I purchase are not being used, and going bad in the fridge then, I will leave it up to you to purchase your own preferred fresh foods.

In addition to the above, from time to time I will prepare for you:
*** Homemade Soups, Homemade Baked Beans, Campfire food when the have a gathering which usually includes beans, potatoes, and hotdogs or hamburgers.

*** I will also sometimes make other foods for you to enjoy, depending on my workload/schedule.

I do not provide: Meat, dairy products, and any specialized food, drinks, or treats you desire but please, feel free to supply your own preferences.
