I spent almost four weeks in November at Sophia’s farm. I helped her with feeding the horses, cleaning out the stable, and completing some other tasks. In return, she showed me how to approach horses, handle them, and taught me some basic riding skills.
I had a lot of free time and was able to visit some cities. Sophia didn’t hesitate to drive me
… read more to the bus station at six in the morning, even though she normally gets up late.
I witnessed the arrival of her new dog, Stitch, who first had to adjust to his new life: not running after the cats or the ponies, and especially not chasing jumping horses.
Sophia drove two hours to a wildlife sanctuary to help a sick fox, even though the fox had eaten her chickens and damaged her belongings. That shows her big heart for animals. Sadly, the fox died on the way.
In the house, it’s very cold, but I got used to it a bit. There weren’t many sunny days, but I still enjoyed my stay a lot.

My experience on the Farm with Sophia was interesting. I took care of the Ponies and food for the horses amongst other various tasks like clearing brush, checking fences, refilling the hay, and grooming the animals. It's a beautiful area and with the bikes Sophia provides you can explore the area. I often went to the local museum and antique
… read more store, as well as the lovely park nearby. If you are looking for a place where you can mostly manage yourself and experience solitude, then I recommend. However, the accommodations were not the cleanest. Upon my arrival the room I was given was dirty. The sheets from the previous volunteer were still on the bed and I had to clean the room myself. Sophia has a lot of cats and 2 dogs so beware because their fur is everywhere. Two of the cats reside in the Kitchen area and they can make a mess of the place. There was also no working water in the kitchen upon my arrival which Sophia did not tell me before coming. Although it wasn't to much of an inconvenience, it meant I couldn't wash my dishes or cloths for a week or so. Additionally, even though it states the volunteer would only work 5 days a week, I never received a day off. Sophia can be difficult to work with at times and even insulting. Overall, it was an experience I will always remember, I enjoyed tending to the ponies and horses, learning how to care for them, the sunny/rainy bike rides, and days spent outside.Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

Jewel stayed here 1 month. She wanted to learn about horses. But as I told her in the begining of her stay, "you get what you give". She gave the very minimum and got the very minimum. I had a fantastic time at the farm. Without any previous experience of horses, Sophia taught me how manage horses, feeding and tasks to do in general on a farm. Oliver stayed 2 weeks at the farm. Too short! We would have loved him to stay longer. He has been very helpful despite the fact I was sick most of the time and couldn’t be there with him to show how to do.

I spent two wonderful weeks at Sophia's farm in the heart of France.
It was exactly what I needed, a lot of peace and quiet, nature and fresh air – though not lacking good company and long, interesting (and funny) conversations in the evenings. The working hours were very fair, I could organize them myself and had enough free time to read or
… read more paint. I decided on the deal including riding lessons, from which I profited a lot. Sophia really cared about my goal (learning how to gallop) and invested a lot of time to help me relax my body and improve my riding. Also, I learned a bit about horsemanship! In general, Sophia is a very warm-hearted woman with a lot of knowledge about horses. She took another workawayer and me on a trip to a castle, trusted me with her car and made crêpes for my last dinner – gestures that I appreciated a lot.
All in all, I enjoyed my time there very much and I'm sad I had to leave so soon! If you're thinking about staying with Sophia, there are just a few things you should know: every day is different (no real routine), the place is a bit isolated / there aren't many people around, and the actual work usually doesn't directly involve the horses since they stay on the fields throughout the year. But if you're okay with all that, I can really recommend Sophia's farm. You won't be disappointed! And you will be kindly welcomed by all the cats and dogs and chicken and horses, too...
Thank you for everything, Sophia :-))

Sophia is a very intelligent, generous, full of sense of humor, tough and handy woman. And is really caring her animals, with all the love and respect. During my stay in her farm, I've learned so much more than I could ever imagine. Not only the horse riding, also the ethology and horsemanship. She's incredibly knowledgeable. She's always happy to

She's a great teacher, always can see the key point of the problems so you could improve with her help. And she really cares about your improvement so she would offer anything she has to help you. I especially thank her for that.
As you could see all her animals are living in harmony, I would say the core principle of her farm is "respect", with that you know how to live the life and still can express yourself freely at the same time.
The work here is very rewarding, I'm very appreciated that I had chance to stay and learning from Sophia.Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

Zoe stayed in our farm for 2 months. She took care of the horses and worked on the fence cleaning and bush clearing. She could use the sickle and the brush-cutter with a lot of precision. She has been a very precious help when I had to go to the hospital and she had to deal alone with all the animals at home.
She also rode some of our horses

She is very supple, watchful, respectful, a bit cold sensitive but doesn’t care for the rain and outside work. She is introvert, discreet and modest. She is very sweet and can be very cheerful when she gets comfortable with her environment.
I really had fun with her and I am really grateful to her for her help and confidence. I was really lucky to have the opportunity to meet such a good person.

In short, I had an amazing experience, and I cannot recommend Sophia highly enough. Be aware, the work is hard, but very rewarding. If you relish the idea of authentic farm work, learning new skills, and the chance to experience a different culture and lifestyle in the French countryside, this is for you.
I stayed with Sophia for almost two
… read more months, much longer than I originally planned, because I was having such a great time. The farm is beautiful and serene, and I used to go for walks and rides in the woods, or walk around the lake looking for hag-stones.
The work can be difficult and dirty, as is the nature of farm work, so if you're afraid of manual labour, dust and grime, smalls cuts and bruises, then be aware that that is the nature of farm work, and it can be tough. That being said, I always found it rewarding, and had a lot of fun. The work you are doing matters. If you repair the fences poorly the horses might get loose. If you don't pull the weeds properly another Workawayer or Sophia will have to do it again in a few months. Sophia will make you responsible and accountable for things, which was for me one of the best things about working there.
In the course of my duties I learned how to drive a tractor, use a chainsaw and other tools, and care for horses and other animals, amoung many other things. I enjoyed every day, and you can feel and see your efforts being invested into the farm and it's improvement and maintenance. It's a good feeling, and I came to care very deeply about my work. I was sad to say goodbye, and I would be sad if someone didn't respect the importance of their work and take it seriously.
Sophia herself is fantastic. We would always have good conversations, good laughs, and she taught me many new skills that I could then apply in my work. She is a generous host, and would go out of her way to help me with whatever I needed (I love cooking, so we would always buy the best fruit and vegetables and produce to work with), driving me to town so I could post my letters, or develop my film. You will be rewarded for your hard work.
Sophia took me on many adventures from horse rides, to castle visits, to dinners with friends, restaurants in the city, and medieval festivals. It's safe to say we became very good friends, and all of her animals are delightful. The nicest cats and dogs in the world, I miss them terribly. Marie is the most beautiful cat I've ever seen, and she likes to jump on your head and shoulders and be a scarf. Far West is the most gorgeous dog, and the laziest probably, he's hilarious. And there's a whole ensemble of different, quirky animals to get to know.
Sophia also taught me to ride horses, something I've wanted to do for a long time, and is a very good teacher, so I learned a lot more than I thought I would in the time I had. Skill with horses will go a long way here, and I guarantee no matter your skill level and experience, Sophia will have something to teach you. I cried when I said goodbye to Edelweiss, the horse I learned to ride on. I'll never forget him.
If you relish the thought of difficult but rewarding farm work, and learning new skills, I cannot recommend this experience enough. If you're more interested in chilling out and taking it easy, there are other experiences that will be a better fit for you. I personally had the best time ever.
Thanks for everything Sophia!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

I'm sorry I'm so late to write a review but here it is !
I stayed 2 months with Sophia and it has been such a positive and learning experience !
I came as a rider so I was in charge to take care of daily needs of the horses and I loved everyone of them. The work is not hard and I was really free to choose my rhythm and hours, which I
… read more particularly appreciated. Also I was doing everything in an autonomous way but Sophia was always here whenever I needed something or had a question. On some stuff, there are really precise (but understandable) rules to follow, but once you respect it, you have a lot of freedom with your way to do the work. The accommodation was soooo comfy, I really loved it !!
Sophia and I didn't always had the same opinions or habits about the way to train the horses but I really appreciated that we could talk about it, and she was really opened and considering every ideas I had. I was free to take initiatives and it was appreciated. Also I made such big progress in my riding in only two months cause she is a talented professor that really cares about your improvement and always explaining everything to be sure you understand what you are doing and why. Thanks to her, I now have my galop 5 as she trained me for it and make me pass the exams.
About the daily life, Sophia is a very friendly person who loves to talk a lot so you won't feel alone. Still, you have your own space (A whole little house) to do whatever you want in your free time. However, you need to be ok not to talk to a different person everyday. It's the perfect place to rest, focus on yourself while being in nature. You can ask sophia for advices on places to visit around or hike tracks if you're a good rider. She was always making sure I had everything I needed and brought me to beautiful horses hikes to discover the area.
I am still in contact with sophia which I can tell became a good friend. Saying goodbye was not easy and I miss her, the place and the horses a lot and I hope I can come back in the summer !!
Thank you for everything, sophia :DSó é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

Cécile stayed almost 2 months at home. Her plans were to improve her riding skills and take her french riding exams. She can plan a schedule of progress from the ground up to basic dressage and small jumps. She has an intelligent approach

Cécile has a strong personality and was sometimes a bit impatient. However when I would talk to her and explain my mind, she could question herself and would respect my point of view. I specially appreciated the fact that she would tell her mind when she would disagree or had other ideas. We could discuss about the best way to proceed with no double talk.
Cécile is frank, honest, energetic, muscled and willing. She is very independent and self responsible. She has followed pretty well the rules and our organisation. She is also very entertaining and I can say we became very good friends. She has a lovely dog who respected my hens (but didn't like my cats unfortunately). She left the accommodation perfectly clean when she left.
Her stay here was a real treat. Many thanks to her !

I’m super happy I filled it in in the end and honestly, I totally understand that Sophia wants to make sure what kind of people are coming to her home and make sure that they also know what’s expecting them there.
Sophia is a super warming person with a lot of humor, who loves to laugh and who is super easy to talk with. I’m happy for all the things she taught me while being there (especially about the ethology of horses), for long interesting talks after dinner or work. Helping Sophia around her beautiful stables was my first experience on workaway and it was incredibly amazing!

Sophia was a patient and skilled teacher for horse riding even for a newbie like me, in the third week I could have a full control of my horse and trot.

As I can ride, Sophia gave me the possibility to explore the nature by horse: fantastic! We also visited a couple of old towns.
Sophia is really kind and helpful. I used to ask her many questions about french as I study this language at university: she has been a good teacher! I really enjoyed talking with her and Alex (another workawayer) both in french and english: there was always something to talk about. I was never bored!
My room was perfect, but I have to say that the house, although very beautiful and characteristic, is... "extremely furnished"!!! You'll have to deal with objects... everywhere! Alexandru is a very generous and sweet person. He is intelligent and has a lot of humour. I had 3 marvellous weeks with him during which he helped me a lot with the wood work (cutting, burning…) and also with the house work (cleaning, cooking). He follows the rules and takes good care of the devices he uses. Please host him and he’ll find a way to help you. You won’t regret your choice.Join our eco-community in Drôme, France
