    Descrição

    Hi there

My partner and I have 4 acres of land in Koah (4881) qld. It is up on the tablelands and 35 mins from Cairns.

It is a rural and almost at the end of a dead end road, so very quite and private. It is/was a blank canvas so we are planting gardens, regenerating the river banks and building an off grid shipping container dwelling.

We both have experience in building tiny houses and natural structures such as earthships, hemp and mud brick houses. In regards to permaculture and syntropic farming we are lreadng books, attending courses, watching you tube and learning as we go.

We are keen to share our knowledge and skills and look forward to learning from you too. There is always something to learn!

We are looking for energetic folk who have an interest and/or skills in off grid living, permaculture, gardening, landscaping and growing their own food.

The majority of the work will be outdoors, so lots of immersion in nature and living with the elements. There will be some indoor work too.

If you are not skilled in this work, please still apply, enthusiasm and creativity counts for a lot.

We work with open communication and honesty. If there is something I suggest you do that you don't feel comfortable with, then speak up and we will find you another job. I have found that a number of people are scared of heights and don't like to climb ladders or get on roof tops, for example.

If you do have trade and building skills, and/or permaculture, food growing skills or natural building skills, we are definitely interested in hosting you. There is potential for paid work outside the exchange hours if you are interested.

We are both great cooks and love cooking for guests, but we have found in the past people often want to cook their own, so we work all that out as we go along. We will always supply staples such as grains, pastas, cereals, spices, tea and coffee, fruit, milk, bread, etc
If you prefer to supply and make your own food that is fine too, and naturally the hours of energy exchange can also be negotiated based on that.
If you have specific food requirements best you sort that out yourself.

So far we have set up on the land:
1 under cover camp kitchen ( with bbq and 1 gas burner stove and small camping fridge)
2 shower and bath (cold water at this point but that should change very soon)
    3 Outdoor loo

There are a number of accomodation options, bear with me as I explain:

1 - if you come with your own campervan, tent, caravan etc there is a private pad down the back just waiting for you and your set up. It has water access but no mains power. We can also supply tents, and a campervan (double bed) if you need, or if there is more than a few of you.
We are there about 3 to 4 days a week, so there will be times when you have the place to yourselves.

2 - I live 40 minutes away in a 2 bedroom town house. The spare room has a king single in it, and there is another room I can turn into a bedroom (currently a store room)
Alternatively, I can also move the campervan to the private courtyard at the town house and be 3 metres from the town house and all the facilities, bathroom, kitchen, laundry, lounge.

Neither location has internet connection. You can use my hotspot on my phone any time I am around, and we do have a starlink we can set up at either place if you are prepared to contribute to the bill?

We live in a great community with helpful fun neighbours. The last 'workawayers' we had here, ended up staying in the region for 5 months, as the local community offered them a lot of work and accomodation options.

This is a great place for you to:
Get into nature learn some skills that will empower you towards self sufficiency.
Be creative and playful with your contributions
A base for discovering the region

We anticipate aprox 22 hours a week and it can be in any arrangement that suits you. EG 2 x 11 hour days, or 4 x 5 hour days.

Smoking is fine as long as you are responsible with the waste and proximity to others.

A few drinks and a bit of music is fine too, but if you want to party, this is probably not your gig.

Big skies day and night, plenty of fire wood.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Melinda and David
