We are a fast growing, young community of more than 100 adults and children living together in a new village in the Negev desert. Our vision is one of togetherness and love in a spirit of sustainability and spirituality.

In August 2013 we built an eco village on Mount Eldad in the Negev, with the intention of living a meaningful life close to nature under the open sky. The village on Mount Eldad did not last because of problems with the authorities, but now we were finally living together, legally, in harmony, in Tzochar, Eshkol.
These days we are preparing for thr next stage on our journey : moving and relocating our home to the desert of the Arava.

Volunteering with us is highly recommended for those who are truly interested in the unique spiritual atmosphere of the community.

Our program has a minimum stay of 2 weeks up to a month and more of it fits.

We are now in the beginning stages of A project we were waiting for in a long time. Relocating to the Desert!
So we need good strong hands capable in Physical work helping with disassembling the village for preparation for relocation.

Your house has all the facilities necessary for providing comfortable living conditions (air condition, washing machine, fully equipped kitchen, a big living room and an outside seating area).
We can host maximum 4 volunteers simultaneously.

The volunteers cook in their own kitchen in the volunteer house. Youll be given money for purchasing ingredients in the local market 20 minutes walk from the village

In more detail: Coming into this community, our aim was to meet the community members and to learn about their decision to live together in an intentional community. To learn what this living environment brings to… read more their lives in terms of social and personal value. To see what values we want to bring back into our own lives. We were unsure if, as volunteers, we would have enough involvement with the community to have these conversations, but in the end we had ample time (even in 8 days) to have many conversations with multiple community members. This is the best and most special part of this volunteer experience. As they said in the community, "People here really see you. When they ask how you are doing, they are asking because they really care about your heart and your life, even if they have never met you." This was certainly true.

As far as the life and work experience: The schedule is pretty set. Sun to Friday morning work. Friday afternoon - Saturday night are Shabbat, a time for rest. Work hours are somthing like 7am-11am, then 3:30pm-6pm. During the break, we usually cooked lunch, wrote in our journals and napped. The house has space for 8 volunteers, who tend to be likeminded people (bc that is who signs up for these experiences), we had beautiful conversations together in the volunteer house, did art / house projects, and bonded. When we were there people came from all over (Germany, USA, France, Argentina, Israel). We took turns cooking and cleaning, always eating group meals. Food is purchased a few times a week by the community, usually the same list of items, but you can make a few limited requests if needed. Food is all vegetarian (Fruits, Veggies, grains, milk, eggs, tofu, etc..) Sleeping situation is 3 rooms (1 single, a 4 person, and a 3 person - with bunks). (Also, there are a few extra sheets in the volunteer house, if in a pinch!)

Work is really varied. We were there for the Sept-Oct holidays, so our work was really getting ready for this, but it changes bw building projects, painting, gardening, tent construction, community beautification, etc. There is enough times for breaks and water, nothing ever feels like too much (although it is solid work!) If two city kids from NYC can do it, you can too!

In the evenings, there is some programming. From meditation sessions, to yoga, to "spirituality" class (mostly talks on how we live our lives and experience our world / peers - how to live intentionally). We are not overly religious/spiritual people; however, the talks were thought-provoking and led to dynamic discussions with other volunteers.

The most special part is Saturday Shabbat dinners with the community. This is the best chance to mingle. Bring white clothes for this! In a pinch you can borrow something from the volunteer house, there is a little pile of extra work clothes in there and some are white. At this dinner, there is a welcome meeting (celebrating community togetherness) with music, followed by potluck dinner. The food is incredible!

Your contacts at this experience are Roi, Mashav, Malin, Ofek and Shirley. You will meet them in your first days in the desert. They are all so open and caring. They really want to connect with you and make your stay in the community fulfill your expectations, whatever they may be! You always feel supported in this workaway and feel they are working for you (and your personal growth) as much as you are working for them!

We wish we could have stayed longer. We learned so so so much. We made good friends and more importantly changed our worldview a little bit by experiencing a very unique way of life / community formation. You should absolutely spend time here if you can!
