… read more amazing hosts, kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. They always took the time to explain things and made sure we felt comfortable with our tasks. I also had the chance to meet Ola’s parents, who were just as welcoming and lovely to talk to.
One of the most memorable moments during my time on the farm was moving all the sheep from the pastures into the barn as winter approached. Seeing the changing landscape and working together to prepare for the colder months was something truly special.
During our free time, we could explore the beautiful surroundings, with plenty of opportunities for hiking in the stunning Norwegian landscape.
I’m so grateful for this experience, for everything I learned, and for the wonderful people I met. Thank you, Ola and Lone, for your kindness and for sharing your way of life with us. I hope to return one day!

… read more take the time to explain things, love to discuss a lot of different topics, which keeps it always interesting.
The work varies a lot and they make sure that you don't end up doing the same thing for days or a week in a row. Depending on the season and the needs: I fed the sheep when they were inside, did some snow shuffling, painted and removed old paint, assisted during lambing, sowed and planted flowers and vegetables, made firewood, and so much more.
My experience here was a wonderful one with many moments that I won't forget: the barn that floaded 2 times, long days in the barn during lambing and the hard birth givings, spotting a fox in the snow and off course: getting a lamb to listen to his name: Rambo will always have a place in my heart! :)
I would highly recommend Ola's & Lone's place if you are interested in organic farm and learn how things can be done differently, integrating nature into farming and living with the seasons and nature. Now it's been a month since we left Ola and Lone's farm, but a part of our hearts is always there! We went in September 2023 and spent two months, filled with valuable learning experiences. We enjoyed the world's best apples and witnessed snow for the first time in a charming part of Norway, a country we had always dreamed of visiting.
Our tasks
… read more included feeding the sheep, making some paintings, harvesting from the garden, preparing plants for winter, assembling and disassembling fences, and even setting gravel on fire (which was great for warming up a bit in the Norwegian cold!). Besides the enjoyable work, we shared meals and immersed ourselves in the cultures of Brazil, India, Norway, Denmark, and Belgium. We exchanged life experiences and learned from one another.
It was a life-changing experience, made even more incredible by being with Ola's family. They were always patient, teaching us the work calmly and clearly, showing us their beautiful farm and everything they cultivate there. Ola's parents often joined us in work or leisure moments, treating us as part of the family.
We were very happy there and express our gratitude to Ola, Lone, and their family for all the warmth and teachings. We hope to see each other again soon!

The work included feeding the sheep, helping with lambing, caring for the bottle fed lambs, setting up and taking down electrical fencing, making firewood, gardening, and a variety of other tasks. Ola & Lone are very generous with their time, they thoroughly explain everything and patiently answer questions.
I highly recommend them as hosts and their farm as a place to have a wonderful time while learning about organic farming, animal care, biodiversity, gardening, wood production and much more.
The farm is on a peninsula with lots of hiking trails, bicycle routes, beautiful lake views and waterfront areas.

Alex and I stayed at the farm for two months during April and May. It was a beautiful time periode where we got to experience the end of winter and beginning of spring as well as the big lambing season.
We did many different tasks regarding the farm, house and woodproduction. But our main task was to look out for the ewes and feed them a good
… read more amount of kraftfôr and silage. Working with the sheep could get tough at times, but seeing the ewes give successfully birth to many lambs was all the more rewarding. As mentioned we could also experience the end of winter with real snowfall unlike in Germany. When spring finally came the nature around the farm blossomed and all the exciting garden projects began.
In our free time we often met with Ola and Lone's family to eat delicious food and discuss cultural differences and similarities between Norway and Germany. During these gatherings we always felt welcome and had much fun. It was not only a feeling but Lone, Ola and his family were really friendly, funny, open minded and are therefore definitly worth recommending for a workaway stay in Norway!

In April and May 2023 Alexander and Tim stayed with us at the farm. Together we have received 100 lambs and gotten them out on pasture. I stayed at Ola and Lone's place for the months of March and April. The first weeks were quite hard for me because I wasn't used to such a life and I didn't feel so good. Nevertheless, Lone, Ola, Morten und Marit were always nice and I liked the varied tasks.
The second month was one of the best in my entire life. Lambing was two weeks earlier
… read more then planned and that is why Marit and I were alone on the farm. In the late evening we helped a ewe giving birth to triplets.
The day after, lambing already was in full swing and two new workawayer arrived. We got along incredibly well and had so much fun together. From bathing in the 5°C Mjøsa or playing board games to spending long evenings in the barn and waiting for a lambing, everything was included. We learned a lot about sheep, organic farming and the norwegian lifestyle.
Everyday we had to feed the sheep twice, check every hour if a lambing is starting and care for the lambs (make them drink, bottlefeed some, see if they are okay...) and I loved it.
Around the barn there was always a nice atmosphere. Morten and Marit were often there, a lot of family members, friends and neighbors were visiting and we had some lunches next to the barn.
Not just Marit, but also Lone is very talented in making food. Both of them are very warmhearted people and it is nice to be around them.
Ola and Morten have a passion for sheep and you can see that they are still happy working with them. They are eager to teach you everything you want to know and make sure you are feeling fine. Ola also has a lot of knowledge about organic farming and loves to share it.
I stayed almost the whole lambing time but on my way back home right now I regret it so much to not stay a few weeks longer and even lost a few tears. I am so glad I have met all of them and one day I will definitely see them again!
I can't be thankful enough and hope other people will also get the chance to experience a time like I did.

As I stayed at the farm over christmas and new years I also met some other family members and friends which were very nice and welcoming as well.
My work varied a lot because I stayed over the last bits of autumn and the start of the winter, but there was one very nice task, that I needed to do every day: Feeding the sheep :) At first the sheep have been a bit shy but they got more curious over time and even cuddly towards the end <3 I loved the work with the sheep, it was very rewarding and after a few days it did not feel like work anymore :)
Some of the other work was cutting branches, building a temporary wall, painting a ceiling, carry some wood, building birdboxes, etc. The tasks have been described very good and if I had any questions I always got the answers I needed.
Outside of work I had some nice chats and good laughs during my stay and if you are interested in farming or architecture you can learn a lot!
The accomodation was a separate house just for the workawayers. There was plenty of space, each of us workawayers had an own room and the kitchen and bathroom were shared. We cooked for ourselfs which was really nice for me.
Thanks again for having me! It has been the best stay on my trip so far :)

My friend Elli and me were doing this together and we lived in the nice old farmhouse on our own (so your privacy is definitely respected). The work with the sheep was great and I fell in love with all the lambs. During work you can always contact Ola if you need help or have questions. Despite this you will have enough breaks between your tasks and in your free time you could go down to the lake or take a walk through the forest. Depending on your tasks, you are usually off at the weekend. We had the pleasure of going to an Indonesian concert in a cafe with Lune and Ola and to have lunch with Ola's parents. Morten and Marit are lovely people and it was nice to chat with them. The atmosphere on the farm is so peaceful and I felt welcomed since the time I arrived there. Thank you Ola and Lone for having me and for making this stay one of the best experiences.
All in all I can definitely recommend staying and working on this organic farm. You won't regret it and furthermore you will have a great time meeting new people, falling in love with the sheep, having nice chats with your hosts and a lot to laugh.

Even though I only stayed for 3 weeks, I learned so much about many things (more than farming) and I will cherish this experience in this beautiful place forever.

We were also so lucky that we were able to join them to the sheep pasture in the beautiful mountains, we got to help with gathering and counting the sheep. Which is an unforgettable experience.
We got clear explanations what was expected and if we had questions, they were very kind and willing to help.
It’s very interesting to see their way of living and all the projects they have got going on.
They and their family are very welcoming and kind.
It’s very nice to spend time with them, you can really see how passionate and motivated they are.

Both Lea and Merle are really fun and easy going. Even in the coldest and most icy winter they always stayed positive. Farmwork was a bit new to them, but they were open for anything and hosting them was a solely good and unproblematic experience. I would recommend hosting them and spending time with them to anyone.

They made me feel comfortable since the first moment, we had lots of beautiful moments together for example in the mountain cabin and during the sheep gathering. Ola explained me everything very well so, even if I had never been in a farm before, the tasks were clear to me and I was able to organize my routine with the care of the animals. I started usually at 9 am, fed/watered the animals and made sure they were OK, after that Ola showed me what to do during the day, so that I was able to structure my own time and hours. The tasks were varied: helping restore something, some gardening, helping build fences, harvesting and packing the vegetables for the winter or picking berries. Another thing I really appreciated is that not only Ola explain you well how to do things but also the reason, providing you a wider perspective which makes you feel involved in what you are doing, and not always hosts give so importance to this. I really felt at home and living in that uncommon but wonderful corner of Norway in the last two months has been unforgettable.
Thank you for showing me how much a farmer cares about his animals even though they are bred for their meat, thank you for giving me the opportunity to spend time with them and learn a lot of things that being in an office maybe I would have never known, I already miss them all very much, well... all except Polly :)
I don't know what else to say but thank you, you are really nice people and I really wish you to be able to carry on all your ideas and dreams and I really hope to come back and visit you in the future

Jana and Tallak fast managed to get into the work, and handle the ups and downs of the the lambing season. … read more was a pleasure being able to meet open minded people that love to talk about farming and any other kind of topic for that matter. There were many highlights and I was happy to share a lot of interesting conversations and laughs with you and your family. Some of my favorite memories were the farmers board game night, going to the local cinema after herding the sheep, sheep shaving, riding the e-bicycle eller -modern wheelbarrow-, and trying the barley porridge before I left. Ola's mom, Merit, is a very hospitable lady whom cooked us deilig lunches sometimes and Ola`s father, Mortin, was always around to help us and he is also quite the subtle jokester. I look forward to coming back and discussing what kind knowledge this world brings us until then!
