  Hi there! 👋
  
  We're a friendly, active family of four living in Mackay, Queensland, the southern gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.
  
  We're currently looking for our next au pair to join our family within the next few weeks, and we're hoping to find someone who'd like to stay for 9–12 months or longer and genuinely become part of our family.
  
  We first became Workaway hosts because we had such a great experience using Workaway ourselves while travelling around Europe in 2015–2016. We loved meeting people from different parts of the world and having the chance to experience life together, so we're excited to keep that going.
  
  We're a family of four with two awesome kids:
  
  👦 Our 9-year-old son – energetic, outdoorsy and always ready for the next adventure, and loves soccer.
  
  👧 Our 7-year-old daughter – confident, funny, a little sassy and definitely not short on personality!
  
  Fair warning... our house is not a quiet one!
  
  The kids have plenty of energy and love being outside, so if you're looking for a house where you can sleep until midday and spend most of your time doing your own thing, we probably aren't the right family for you. We wake up early here.
  
  But if you enjoy kids, like having a laugh, getting outdoors and don't mind a little organised chaos, you could fit in really well with us.
  
  Bonus points if you're sporty or active!
  
  The kids love kicking a footy, riding bikes, swimming, playing outside and generally finding ways to burn off as much energy as possible. If you're happy to get involved, they'll probably think you're the coolest person in the house!
  
  We're looking for someone who wants to become part of the family, rather than simply completing a set number of hours and heading off.
  
  
  And of course, living in Mackay puts you in a great position to explore North Queensland, the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef when you're not working.
  
  We're looking for someone who is:
  
  * Holds a current driver's licence and is confident driving
  * Positive and easy-going
  * Responsible and reliable
  * Comfortable around children
  * Happy to get involved with family life
  * Active or enjoys getting outdoors
  * Independent and keen to explore Australia
  * A non-smoker 🚭
  * Someone with a good sense of humour!
  
  Bonus if you are a calm negotiator!
  
  You don't need to have years of childcare experience. Personality, attitude and reliability are much more important to us.

  The main things we'd need help with are:
  
  * School drop-offs and pick-ups
  * Helping keep things tidy, particularly after meals and around the kids
  * Helping with family life and the occasional dinner - perhaps cooking once a week
  * Spending time with the kids and getting involved in their activities
  
  We're not looking for a cleaner, cook or someone to run the household.
  
  We're simply looking for someone who notices what needs doing, is happy to lend a hand and understands that living together means everyone pitches in.
  
  In return, we'd like you to feel comfortable, included and genuinely part of our family while you're here.

  You'll have your own private bedroom inside our home, with a shared bathroom.
  
  If you're travelling as a couple, we're happy to consider couples and may have some alternative accommodation options depending on the circumstances.
  
  We're only a few minutes from Mackay's town centre, so you'll have easy access to shops, cafes, restaurants and everything else you need during your free time.

  We're looking for someone who can start within the next few weeks, with a preference for someone who can commit to 9–12 months or longer.
  
  If you're already in Australia, that's a bonus, but we're happy to hear from people currently overseas too.

  **Your own car**
  
  Having a driver's licence is important, as you'll need to be comfortable driving for school drop-offs and pick-ups.
  
  You'll also have access to a private family car for your own use, making it easy to get around Mackay and explore the area in your free time.
  
  We'll also provide a weekly allowance with the exact amount and arrangements discussed and agreed upon before you arrive.
  
  Having your own car means you'll have the freedom to head to the beach, explore Mackay, meet friends, go shopping or simply get out and enjoy Queensland when you're not helping with the family.
