My time with Georg, Susi, the kids and of course Misha the dog (and the ducks!) was incredible, and I could not have hoped for a better place to stay for the 1 week I had free in between university classes. I have been to 7 Workaways by now, and I can
… read more honestly say that this is the place where I have felt the most welcome of all :) Georg and Susi are super lovely and considerate, always looking after you and providing you not only with the 3 promised meals but also (homemade) cakes, boardgames, bikes and lively conversation. Susi will tell you all about the lovely places to visit around Schwerin, and as the work stops at 1 pm, you will always have a place to go to (I recommend Wismar!). Georg and Susi are both travelers and have plenty of crazy and interesting stories to share, and it's a +1 if you are into spirituality- then you will have a fun time sparring with Georg about life and all its craziness ;)
I stayed in their small but cosy cabin in the garden which is about a 5 minute walk from their house through the village, and I loved this. You have plenty of privacy there, whether you want to dance in the garden (which I did a lot) or just lay in the comfy bed listening to the birds and reading books. There is no electricity (light) or water in the cabin, but you can charge your devices in the shed right next to the cabin and Georg has a nice headlight for you. Also, you can use the water from Georg's homemade irrigation system (!) but of course also from the house closeby. They also have a spare room within the house, but if given the choice I would recommend the cabin. Especially if you like waking up with the sun in your face and the quacking of their five runner ducks right below your window.
There is plenty of nature around; mostly large stretching agricultural fields. It is also not super hilly, though you will notice some elevation especially when biking to Schwerin. The work is not difficult at all, and you will learn a lot about the different stages an organically grown plant goes through. I loved working in the garden, and miss it now I'm back home.

I stayed with Susi and Georg for three weeks during the month of october, and I truly had an amazing experience. As it was my first time doing Workaway, I was a bit nervous before my arrival, but Susi and Georg welcomed me with open arms into their home, and made me feel welcome in an instant. They are both very kind, thoughtful and generous

The work during my stay was very varied and engaging, and I got to help on some of the different projects going on, which only made each day more interesting. It was truly a pleasure to contribute and I would definitely recommend Susi and Georg as hosts.

Georg and Susi provided us (the other workawayer and myself) with bicycles, which was very kind and practical for us. Susi always cooked wonderfully and gave us lots of tips for excursions in our free time. The two of them are very considerate and also give you opportunities to retreat - just as they need to as a family as well - but otherwise involve you very warmly. I enjoyed the excursions with Susi and the children to the surrounding lakes very much.
The week really felt like a vacation - I'm looking forward to coming back!
And for the animal lovers: we were also able to look after the 3 sheep a bit, and because I was staying in the wagon, I was also allowed to look after the cute runner ducks.Fotos

I stayed in the wagon in the garden which is very cosy and well equipped for storing our things, it's a 2 minute bike ride from the house where I used to shower and have meals after working in the garden in the morning.
The afternoons and weekends are free, which means you can visit the surrounding area and the larger towns that are easily accessible by train.
The family will be able to advise you on the most beautiful places to visit, which is a real bonus.
It's a very inspiring way of life and well worth trying out, and you'll leave the farm with a wealth of knowledge and goodwill to continue farming and living in an environmentally-friendly way for sure.
I felt so welcome as a solo traveller, it's a pleasure. Georg, Susi and the children deserve all the happiness in the world and all I want to do is come back!

… read more beautiful garden and lovely house with their children's joyful voices... It was an amazing experience to stay with Georg and Susi, their small children, and their cheerful dog. Joy, laughter, love, compassion, cultural experiences, and insightful conversations, were present.
I worked at Georg's farm from 7 am to 12 pm for five days a week. The tasks were very organized and I enjoyed different types of work every day. In the afternoon, I enjoyed a lot of cultural exchanges. Susi taught me some German dishes and I made sushi for them. On the weekend, we visited Schwerin together and had a nice cake picnic alongside the lake. They shared with me the history, culture, and memories of the city.
It was such a beautiful day. I'm looking forward to coming back to their little, beautiful farm again.

… read more close to the train into Schwerin centre. After a morning of sweating and good solid work I loved cycling into town to swim in the lakes and wander through the castle grounds. Susi and Georg are full of suggestions and are always keen to help you get out and explore the countryside. I did a weekend trip into groovy Hamburg and explored the charming town of Wismar.
Susi and Georg have two beautiful young kiddos who I loved to play with. You don't need to be involved with them at all during your stay if you don't want to, although they are so sweet you will definitely want to!
I would recommend this work away to anyone who wants to get their hand dirty and actually make a difference!

My stay with Georg and Susi was really beautiful. They are so warm and hospitable and open-minded. I really enjoyed the work and learnt so much from Georg about growing vegetables which I’ve been trying to apply to my own garden. The practical experience was so much better than anything I could have learnt online or in books. Even if I hadn’t been into gardening the way the work was structured – working in the morning and having afternoons off- and the variety of what we did would have meant I didn’t get bored. Also, it would be hard for even someone completely uninterested in gardening to leave without being fascinated!
Susi always had great ideas about what I could do in my free time, and I had a great time cycling to the many lakes in the area or to the open-air museum. When the other workawayer and I visited Luebeck and Wismar, Susi had loads of recommendations and tips for where to visit. Susi and Georg really did their best to try to facilitate the activities I wanted to do while in Germany, for instance, they kept calling a stable to see if I could ride there and when I couldn’t tried and tried to find somewhere else where I could. The food was always excellent and as a vegetarian, I really appreciated learning new ways to eat different vegetables - which most often came from the garden.

The cute little shepherds hut at the field is a nice place to sleep, where you can enjoy the mellow evenings in summer or a bonfire in the winter time. But it’s also possible to sleep in their house and be part of the family as much as you like. Susi and Georg respected my personal time and the moments of rest.
Besides that the area around Schwerin is simply beautiful with lot’s of hiking or cycling possibilities, lakes and even the Sea and beautiful cities like Hamburg, Lübeck and Wismar close by. I will definitely come around again when traveling the north of Germany and will look forward to see you and the beautiful place you are creating again. And to cuddle with Misha (dog) again of course :)

We loved staying in the little wagon right on the farm! It’s so cozy reading by candlelight and then waking up to the sun on the garden in the morning. The small community is nice for riding bikes and close to some interesting larger towns.

During my stay, I had the opportunity to learn the art of horticulture directly from the soil. Georg guided me through the various facets of plant care, imparting both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The garden was a place of continuous discovery, and my days were filled with engaging activities.
Even the leisure moments were fantastic. Excursions to charming coastal cities like Lübeck and Wismar enriched my experience. Swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Baltic Sea and picturesque lagoons was invigorating. Exploring the surrounding lakes, easily reached by bicycle, led to thrilling moments like water skiing on one of the nearby lakes. An adrenaline rush!
I can't forget Schwerin and its fairytale castle, as well as the culinary delights prepared by Susi and Georg. With simple, natural, and often garden-sourced ingredients, they consistently created dishes that were a treat for both the palate and health.

I helped there for two weeks, 5 hours, 5 days a week as the agreement was. My aim was to learn more about how to create a good, regenerative soil, while simultanously having the opportunity to explore the culture of the area. I left with a feeling that everything
… read more was as it should be, not anything to complain about, and plenty to be thankful for. Susi and Georg are extremely comfortable hosts, and both have a good approach to welcoming workawayers, providing lovely food and accommodation, and even being good turist guides.
Georg knows very much about managing this small field of land in a sustainable and regenerative manner, and he is also a wise and friendly person who can share knowledge in a manner understandable to a beginner. If you are interested in spirituality and deeper questions, he is also a great sparring partner in those kinds of conversations.
Both Susi and Georg command English at a very good level, so I never had any trouble with communication (my German is intermediate).
We went to work early everyday, sometimes at 6 oclock, which I loved as an early bird. Sometimes I worked alone, sometimes I worked with Georg and another workawayer, always very nice. In the evenings, I often help Susi with her cooking, which was often very unique and tasty.
Some days I was invited to have dinner with the greater family, which is very wholesome.
The whole experience was great, and I recommend it to everyone looking for a young host family, that is welcoming, good in communication, and very good at making healthy tasty food.
