Descrição
Hello, I'm Siegfried, a 79-year-old retiree living in the picturesque region of Värmland in central Sweden since April 2021. My journey to Sweden began when my son moved here in the autumn of 2020, and I decided to follow him six months later. Initially, I was part of a communal living project he started with four like-minded individuals shortly after his arrival.
After about a year in the community, I moved to an apartment in Nykroppa, a quaint village just 10 km south of Filipstad, near my son's project. I rented the apartment for 14 months before a fantastic opportunity came up to buy a house with a garden near a lake in the same area. I've been living here alone since December 2023.
My new home situation is ideal in many ways—its location, a friendly German family as neighbours, and the general condition of the house all add to its charm. The house, built before World War I, has a rich and varied history, which I find particularly appealing.
I view my house and garden as an ongoing 'experience project' with plenty to do, improve, complete, and create. This suits my love for tinkering and DIY projects perfectly. There's no rush to get everything done; I work at a pace that suits my mood and the necessities.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

I speak fluent German and English and am currently learning Swedish. With a long career as a teacher, I have a keen interest in current political and social developments. I've lived in many countries, such as New Zealand, where I worked as a beekeeper and a teacher.
Having travelled extensively, I can share information and tips about various countries, drawing from my work with the United Nations as an election observer. This role has taken me to places like Mongolia, East Timor, the USA, Georgia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Moldova and Macedonia. I also have experience in Italy, the UK, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, and Israel.
Local Activities and Cultural Exchange
Language Café: Locally, you can participate in the language café, a community gathering spot for immigrants looking to improve their language skills. It's a great opportunity to share and exchange experiences and stories about moving to Sweden.
Exploring Local History: Discover the history of this region through museum visits, excursions, and tours around the area.
Cultural Events: Depending on what's available, we can attend cultural events in nearby towns like Filipstad, Kristinehamn, Karlskoga, or Karlstad.
By hosting people from different cultures, I hope to learn more about their backgrounds and experiences, enriching my own understanding of the world. I look forward to engaging in meaningful exchanges and building lasting connections.Ajuda
At the moment, I have several projects in progress and would love some assistance to bring them to completion.
Indoor Projects
Guest Room: Inside the house, I want to make the guest room more welcoming. This involves installing a windowsill, plastering the window recess, and the interior door recess. While the guest room is currently functional with a bed, floor lamp, dresser, and wardrobe, it could use a rug, which I plan to get soon.
Entrance Area: The entrance area needs some wallpapering, as does the upstairs bedroom and office space. In these areas, the window recesses also need plastering, and windowsills need to be added.
Entrance Porch: The largest project is the entrance porch, where parts of the floor need replacing, and various wooden slats and boards require replacement. The window panes also need new putty.
Working Together
I'll be working alongside you, sharing skills and knowledge along the way. Whether you're experienced or just eager to learn, there's plenty to do, and we'll tackle these tasks together, ensuring you have a rewarding experience while contributing to these projects. Your help will be invaluable in making my home even more comfortable and functional.Idiomas

My house has two levels: the ground floor includes a living room, guest room, and kitchen. Upstairs, you'll find a bedroom with a bathroom and toilet, as well as a workspace for office tasks. The total living area is 90 square meters. Please note: The bathroom only allows for showering while sitting down due to the roof slope.
The property itself, which gently slopes southward, features a driveway, garden, and meadow, spanning approximately 2000 square meters. The living room and kitchen on the lower floor are heated with heat pumps, and I also use a wood-burning stove in the living room. The heat generated downstairs rises, so no additional heating is needed upstairs.
Sleeping Arrangements
Guest Room: You can sleep in the guest room inside the house. While some minor renovation work (like plastering) is ongoing, the room is functional with a bed, floor lamp, dresser, and wardrobe. The adjoining living room is available exclusively for guest use.
Caravan: Alternatively, you can stay in my caravan, which offers a quiet, private setting. It is parked 20 meters in front of the house on our driveway, which ends there, ensuring no through traffic.
Food
For your meals, I'll provide breakfast and dinner, primarily vegetarian, during the week from Monday to Friday. We can also arrange meal preparations together if you'd like to cook occasionally. I go grocery shopping twice a week in Filipstad. On Wednesdays, there's a lunch buffet offered by the local Svenska Kyrka, available for a donation.
On rest days, the Workawayer can warm up leftovers, there is always bread and condiments (sweet/savoury) for a lunch and generally we can coordinate the cooking on these days based on preference and movements. I will always make sure there is food for three meals a day no matter who is preparing it.
If you prefer dining out, there's a Thai restaurant in Filipstad offering a lunch buffet (meat, vegetarian, vegan) for around €12, which I usually combine with my shopping trips. You'll need to cover the cost of this buffet or any other meals at local restaurants, typically ranging from €10 to €16.
Transportation
If you wish to explore the surrounding area by bus, you'll need to cover the fare. Tickets can be booked online via mobile or paid for with a credit card on the bus. Cash payments are not accepted for any transportation services.Algo mais...
Activities and Leisure
Endless Hiking Opportunities: The area offers numerous trails for endless hiking adventures.
Lake Activities: You can swim in the nearby lake, go fishing, or collect berries and mushrooms.
Relaxation: If you prefer a more relaxed pace, you can stay at home, read, write, or enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. Wi-Fi is available for your convenience.
Home-baked Bread: I also offer home-baked bread, adding a personal touch to your meals.
Transportation
Bus Service: There is a regular bus service every 1 or 2 hours to either Filipstad (10 minutes) or Kristinehamn (30 minutes). Both towns have several supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, and libraries.
Weekly Trips: I usually drive to one of these towns once or twice a week, and guests are welcome to join me.
Surroundings
The landscape here is beautiful, varied, and relaxing. We practically live in the woods at the edge of the lake. A sandy beach is a 5-minute bike ride away, and a rocky lakeshore is about a 5-minute walk.
House Rules and Lifestyle
Bikes and Scooters: Bicycles and scooters are available for exploring the local area.
Peaceful Environment: We enjoy a peaceful lifestyle surrounded by nature, so it's a perfect place for those looking to unwind and connect with the outdoors.Mais alguns detalhes
