Shannon, Thomas, Henry, and Silvester, of course not forgetting Viggo and Cleo wholeheartedly welcomed us at their lovely Bed and Breakfast in the southern part of Bornholm. … read more absolutely breathtaking beach close by the B&B, which remembered Pia of the tropical sand beaches (with a slight difference in temperature). We were accommodated in one of the B&B rooms, which left nothing to be desired!
Our working hours were mostly spent with painting fences in the courtyard and the apartment terraces, and additionally we could also apply our skill sets with sewing and bike repair. Each day in the morning Shannon and Thomas provided us with a plan for the day with the extra benefit of leaving us the freedom to plan our 25 work hours per week flexible. This allowed us to explore a majority of Bornholm via bike, which was a fantastic way to see the island.
In the evenings we shared dinner with the whole family, which was pre- or proceeded with jumping on the trampoline with the boys or playing football in the garden – great fun! Viggo, one of the most friendly dogs we ever met, was also always up for a game!

During the two days I had off in the week I'd go to different places on the island such as Hammers hus or Dueodde beach. I got a lot of good advice from Thomas and Shannon on where to go. The bus stop was close to the house and I could alway burrow a bicycle.
I also enjoyed hanging out with Henry and Sylvester and do things like going to the cinema or the beach together. The island is truly beautiful!

I stayed with this great host and family for 10 days, which unfortunately went way too quick! Thomas, Shannon and the boys are very welcoming, making you feel at home right away. The whole property is beautiful with a huge amount of land and close to some of the best beaches on the island.

… read more skills you may already have or what you feel comfortable doing. Some of mine included helping make and fit new exterior doors for the barns and even working on an old sailing boat of theirs.
Thomas and Shannon are very kind and understanding and are flexible about when you want to work and take days off. They also have great recommendations of areas to visit on the island which helped me find places I otherwise wouldn’t have. They are also happy to get you involved in what they do. Some examples were going down to the harbour for a swim, getting ice cream or having BBQ’s with their friends.

… read more and so-called work environment at is very easy-going and calm, while still being dynamic with people and guests coming and going at the B&B. My work were pretty much structured day by day, as we most mornings simply planned what I would work on that day according to the current needs. I experienced that Shannon and Thomas gave me a lot of trust and freedom with my tasks, trusting that I did a good job on my own but if I needed guidance or help I could simply ask.
Shannon and Thomas were very flexible and accommodating to my needs by for example changing one of my days off so I could spend time with a friend, borrowing me their bike everyday, giving me a ride when I needed to go rent a car in another city and helping out and welcoming my friend in their home, who was WorkAwaying another place close by. As a pescatarian they were also very attentive and ensured that the fridge was filled with foods that I eat and like :-)
I really appreciated that I simultaneously felt very comfortable and welcome in the family and their home but also free do to whatever I wanted on my own time and to go out and come home as it suited my needs and social plans.
All in all I can only recommend staying with them!

We spent two weeks in Bornholm at Shannon and Thomas’ B&B and had the most fantastic time. Although it was our first experience with Workaway, our hosts were incredibly welcoming and made us feel immediately at home.
As part of our working agreement we spent each day from 9am to 2pm working on various jobs around the house. We spent our first few
… read more days helping Thomas restore a cement path. The rest of our time was spent primarily in the garden: rebuilding an old garden gate and helping wherever else we were needed. We had a lot of freedom during our stay with Shannon and Thomas, and thus enjoyed a very relaxing time. The two put a lot of trust in us, allowing us to manoeuvre the giant tractor and operate various appliances on the farm and in the mini workshop.
We had our own room which was set up in a very comfortable manner. Additionally, we were also permitted to use our hosts’ kitchen as well as our own separate one in the B&B. However, we only rarely used the kitchen ourselves as Shannon’s varied cooking was outstanding. We are incredibly grateful that Shannon went to the effort and cooked a fresh meal for us each day. A particular highlight for us were the two children – Henry and Sylvester – whom we jumped on the trampoline with, read to, and played cards with.
The area surrounding the B&B is located in the South-East of Bornholm, with the nearest town (Snogebæk) being only 5km away. In Snogebæk we discovered a delicious ice-cream shop as well as multiple shopping opportunities. The beach at Dueodde, on the other hand, is even closer. With our bikes we were able to get everywhere quite comfortably. On top of that, Shannon and Thomas very kindly took us with them to Rønne on numerous occasions when they dropped Henry at school. As a result, we were able to go on days out too see the sights in the surrounding area.
Our time during the Workaway at Shannon and Thomas’ was amazing – we would recommend it without a second thought! Thank you again Shannon and Thomas for the warm hospitality and the very enjoyable two weeks we got to spend with you. All the best to you and your family.

My two weeks on Bornholm were great with Shannon and Thomas as my first workaway hosts!
Preparing rooms/apartments for new guests and pressing linens were my main tasks during the summer season. Beyond that I worked on front view of the B&B. This means in deatil weeding, shifting sand, laying weed blocker and placing granite stones on the top.

There are so many places to visit and you can borrow the cool Califorina bike. Buses run on the island (check "rejseplanen.dk" and you need to think of the different zones).
