They were so welcoming and fun, showed me a lot of the village they live in and things around, made lovely homemade meals (vegan) I sometimes assisted with, and were just such kind people. I loved playing games with the kids and coloring with Suvi! I assisted around the house a little but it was mostly a cultural exchange and a month of being a part of this wonderful family. I had a fantastic time living in Rorhbach with the forest only 10 minutes walk away. There in the valley, I found peace and happiness. The "work" (I didn't really feel that I was working, but rather living with the family and sharing their calm, happy life) usually consisted of playing with the kids, helping
… read more with some simple housework, and some rennovation stuff (I learned how to use a drill!). The location was perfect - quiet, but central enough (I even hitchhiked twice to Italy and back). I really enjoyed spending time with all of them - having interesting conversations with Silvan and Corinne, playing with Béla and Suvi and eating delicious meals together. Since I came just before Christmas, during Advent, I have had some interesting "seasonal" experiences: seeing the kids in a show, visiting a Christmas market, making a colorful candle by myself, walking a candle-lit path around a lake at night, and even meeting Santa Claus :) And the most important thing: their home really felt like home to me. All of them made me feel welcome from the first minute, and leaving was quite sad - I hope I will see them again though. Thanks for an amazing stay! Our one month stay with Corinne, Silvan, Suvi and Béla was one of the greatest experiences we've ever had! Corinne and Silvan are a really nice couple who treated us like family from the moment we arrived at their home. … read more they are very passionate about their dream to fix it up to become a place where they can welcome many travelers from all over the world and we loved having the opportunity to play a small role in helping to make their dream a reality.
Béla and Suvi are two funny and adorable kids with a lot of energy, who are very welcoming to new people from around the world. They will treat you like their family from the moment you arrive! Be prepared for them to be all over you (literally) as they are not shy and love having new people to play with! We had a blast hanging out with these two!
Most of the time the "work" they asked us to do didn't even feel like work. We often were asked to do things that were fun, new and interesting. They showed us how to make homemade jelly from berries and plums we picked in the garden, we often took the kids to play in the forest to give their parents a break and a quiet house, and we cooked some of the meals. Of course there were times when we did do things that felt more like work, but they were all things that we didn't mind doing like working in the garden, leveling the floor in the basement and laying stone, splitting wood (we learned how to use an axe and wood splitter), setting the table and cleaning up after meals, cleaning the house, etc. Corinne works during the week while Silvan stays home to work on the house, so as a Work Away, you will be working with Silvan most of the time. He is very open to giving you projects that you will enjoy and he always shows you how to do something properly before expecting you to do it. And of course there is plenty of time to relax in the afternoon and evening and to go on weekend adventures in Switzerland! Sometimes we took day trips by ourselves to other parts of Switzerland, and sometimes the family would take us to do some very fun things like a hike, a drive through the countryside, a visit to a cheese factory and a biscuit factory, a barbecue at another family member's home, and an afternoon of learning how to play a traditional sport called Hornussen with Corinne's family. Needless to say, in one month we saw and experienced more in Switzerland than we thought we ever would, thanks to this generous family!
We have only positive and good things to say about our experience and highly recommend this family as a host. It was very clear to us right from the beginning of our stay that Corinne and Silvan became Work Away hosts because they genuinely desire the experience of international exchange for their children and themselves more than for the work that travelers can give them. For this reason, we encourage people to apply who are looking for more than just a free room and meals in exchange for work. This is an opportunity to be a part of a family for a short time, to share your cultural background with their family and to experience their Swiss culture during your stay, to teach their kids about different countries, cultures and languages, and for everyone to leave taking with them new perspectives and great memories. We know that we gained so much from sharing life with this family and we hope that more people will get to experience what we did very soon! We miss you four already!!

Toms is a hard working man, and i think this is really watt he likes. And of course his lifestyle of a healthy life. He worked alway very independent. and for much longer he have to. he was go up very early. starting the day wit a short hike before a wake up. Toms is very polite person. wit a lot of interest ideas.

… read more spending time with the children and so on. You can never get bored, even in rainy days! Working conditions are also excellent: every tool and guidance necessary to do all kinds of interesting tasks were kindly provided.
During my 3 month stay here, I gained plentiful of exceedingly excellent experiences and learned a lot. Among which I learned very good recipes and some knowledge of edible wild plants. For a free time there's lots of hiking places even near by; forests, pastures and hills with good views. But also very convenient train connections to get to other parts of Switzerland.

The kids are lively and inquisitive and love to be involved in tasks and learn new words.
I did lots of different tasks during my 4 weeks there. Gardening, cleaning, digging out a cellar floor, splitting wood into kindle and playing with the kids. The work was never too much.
I enjoyed the cheese factory and site seeing in Thun, as well as the trip to all the local 'brocki' (second-hand shops).
Silvan makes a great caiparhina although he does drink most of it too!!
It was great to get to know the other 2 workawayers from America, Megan and Amy, who arrived two weeks into my stay. We were a very full and lively household.

This was my first workaway experience and the first time I was going to spend so long far from home and I was of course a bit afraid of the unknown, but Corinne and Silvan made those fears go away in the first few days of being with them, as they are a very welcoming and easy going family. After just a few days I no longer felt like a guest but
… read more almost like another member of their family. The kids, Suvi and Bèla, also helped me a lot to feel that way, as they engage you in their playing almost as soon as you walk in for the first time, especially Bèla the little one, who's always full of energy.
I had a lot of fun with the help they commited to me: cutting and splitting wood for the stoves, laying a floor, making an electrical installation, painting wooden boards then bolting them to a fence... a lot of varied tasks. Other days the help was simply doing light housekeeping tasks or looking after the kids.
I also had always had plenty of freedom whenever I wanted to take the day off and get on a train to any part of this wonderful country. There were also many days of very typical Swiss family life: a tasty 'raclette' or 'fondue' at home to stuff myself with, a visit to relatives in the area who all lived in traditional Swiss houses or farms and who were always extremely friendly, a trip to the hills to slide downhill in the snow with sleds and often a little Bèla on your back...
Whether this would be your first or not, don't hesitate contact them, it's a unique opportunity to enjoy a very calm and healthy lifestyle in a wonderfully beautiful country. … read more always motivated fast and exactly working. She was always doing more then she have to do for us. Sie was a good cook. Im very happy wenn not i have to do always the cooking. The time is for mi very precious. so i have a longer period, i can work without stoping mi work. The kids loved here. She was doing everything the kids like with them. Crafting, this is suvi's favorite and playing pirates wit Bèla. And she was a good englisch teacher for all of us. we learnt a few neu words. we have now a new favorite word in englisch, i don't know how to write, but im sure you know wich.
And i will never forget the origami flower sessions. I don't know if you was practice at home, but i think we can never get the record from ally.

The kids are a bit nervous of new people on the first afternoon but they soon get used to you being around :).
I had a lovely time playing with Suvi and Bela, making dens, pretending to be pirates, going to the park and the woods to see the deer, making things together. Bela is always full of energy and excitement and Suvi is so creative, they made me remember how fun it is to be a kid. :)
I really enjoyed helping work on the house and the barn, learning from Silvan about sanding and putting down the floor.
We also went apple picking in the rain which was freezing but very satisfying once we had collected them. We also chopped a lot of wood to heat the fire for the winter.
Work was never dull and you did a lot of working together with Silvan or the other workawayers so it was very enjoyable.
The whole house had a really nice atmosphere, the top floor is like an apartment with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a sitting room (where you can usually get some wifi in the evening), a kitchen with a fire and a balcony where you can hang washing to dry.
It was very cosy and a nice place to spend some quiet time on weekends or to hang out with the other workawayers.
The rest of the house is amazing, I was so surprised by the size of houses in Switzerland and there are so many unique things everywhere, lots of the kids artwork, a wall that all the workawayers have added something to, there's a big playroom and a lot of rooms in another part of the house that are slowing being refurbished.
It was great to meet so many different people while I was there and hear their stories. Lovely to meet you all!
Corinne and Silvan are wonderful cooks, the food was always really good and it was so nice to live with another vegan for a while and learn some new recipes. Corinne makes really amazing desserts!
They were both kind enough to take us to some of their favourite places during their time off. Switzerland is a truly beautiful country and I only wish I could have stayed a bit longer.

The kids love'd him, spatially my boy, he was always angry wenn i did need Bray for something.
And Brian he was alway very friendly polite, and he had an nice sense for humor we did laugh a lot the evenings was always very funny. And he was explaining a lot of the taiwanese culture and there food. It was very interesting. This firework festival they celebrate there, its one of the awesome thing i ever heart.

… read more nice and I learned a lot from him. Also, Silvan can cook very good food and I had never tried vegan food before, but it is very delicious. Corinne was very caring and always asked me how things were going and how was my day. The place is quiet and peaceful and the landscape is beautiful. They would let me borrow a bike to ride to close cities. The work was good and I always had time for myself to explore around and have a little walk. They would also recommend some places to go in the surroundings. Even on weekends we made some great things, such as visiting some relatives and going to the lake for a swim and making a fire. The kids were so lovely, they were always active and playing, I treated them as if they were my little brothers. I am sure I will never forget them. This house is definitely a great place to stay and if I had an opportunity I would return there to spend more time with this beautiful family. I will miss them and our great conversations together.

I arrived at their house 12am(in the night). Even though it was really late time Corinne came to the train station and welcomed me kindly. When I came to my new room, everything was organized neatly only for me!

They usually eat vegan foods but sometimes also eat meat. I didn't know that vegan foods are so delicious before I go there! I hope I can make korean food for you guys when I visit you next time.(I'm practicing from now on)
The most happiest thing was I could hang out with bela and suvi. I and the children couldn't talk each other because our language is different. But usually their parents translated and we could communicate using feeling, body. If you hang out with them you will realize how pure they are right away.
Especially I can't forget the moment in hammock during a day. With sunlight, green color landscape, sound of birds.. whenever I woke up in the morning I heard sound of birds. Also the village is so beautiful and nice. There were pigs, cows, chickens, alpacas, rabbits, deers and so on. I absolutely recommend this host to the people who love nature and children.
