  We are a strong, loving family, who values presence and connection most highly. We are interested to invest in social wellness and sustainability, in authentic, meaningful, nurturing and mutually supportive relationships.
  
  We live deep in the Portuguese countryside, near the border with Spain and where the Douro river flows into the country. This region is exceptionally rich in cultural history: aged, masterfully crafted stone houses, churches, streets and walls define the village scenery; castles and fortresses from the middle ages are found on many of the hilltops; the region's rich agricultural heritage continues to the present day, seen in the ancient olive groves, the almond groves, the vineyards and the ever-present sheep population; and, not to mention, this area is home to some of the oldest and most significant pre-historic rock art in all of Europe, dating back up to 30,000 years. In this region, you will not find any big cities or industrial production, nor any of the noise, stress and pollution that come with them. You will find History, the raw Earth and Elements, open skies, peace and tranquility. And our humble family.
  
  Susana is Portuguese, 42 years old, and has had a career as a Waldorf kindergarten teacher and massage therapist.
  
  Cannon is from the USA (of Italian origins), is 46 years old, and has had a career a musician, naturalist, educator and guide.
  
  In this moment, we are in great need of support in our home. We need help with our almost 2-year-old son Coraggio, with our newborn baby son Oceano, and with basic house chores. We need an "au-pair"-style workawayer to live with us and support the wellness of our family and home.
  
  We are looking for experienced child-support people who, first, love to be with children, and are creative, active, and inspired to invest in our collective future by nurturing the healthy development of our young ones.
  
  We ask for a minimum 3-week stay, ideally longer, as it of course will take time to connect and bond with Coraggio and Oceano, and integrate into the rhythm of our family.

  At home we speak both Portuguese and English.
  
  For anyone interested in childcare, parenting, and/or children's education, this will be a wonderful opportunity to gain some practical experience. As the mother of 4 children and having trained and worked in Waldorf education, Susana has an exceptional wealth of experience and wisdom to share with aspiring parents and educators.
  
  For those interested in the history and culture of the Portugal/Spain border region, this will be an ideal location from which to explore. Note that our village lies on the famed Camino de Santiago, and the old church in our village once served as a refuge for pilgrims travelling the path.
  
  Cannon is a musician, specialized in West African music. He is an experienced percussionist, but is not playing the drums too much at the moment. He is currently learning to play West African kora music on the classical western guitar, and you will hear him practicing at the house. If you are a musician, or aspiring musician, perhaps we will have some opportunity to make music together.
  
  For those just wanting to get away from the noise and confusion of today's world, we can offer a sort of refuge here, deep in rural Portugal.

  Ajuda

  We need help with our son Coraggio. He is full of Life! Full with Wonder, Curiosity, and the will to explore and discover. He is extremely active, and he will keep you moving!
  
  You will be Coraggio's playmate and partner in adventures, accompanying him on his daily activities of discovery, supporting him in learning about himself and the world around him.
  
  Oceano, our newborn, he mostly needs his mom for now, but it is great to have other people hold him and adore him sometimes.
  
  We also need help with light, basic housework.

  Acomodação

  We live in a modernly and comfortably renovated old stone house in a tiny agricultural village. You will have your own bedroom, with a double bed. We will share the kitchen and bathrooms. In Winter we keep the house nice and cozy warm with a wood fire (warm houses in winter are very rare in Portugal!).
  
  Food will be included as part of the exchange. Sometimes we will cook meals for everyone, other times you can prepare your own meals with the food that is available at the house. We eat mostly bio/organic foods, and get as much as we can from local producers. We are unable to accommodate super-specialized diets.
  If inspired, you would be welcome to cook meals for the entire family.
  
  Public transport exists here, but is very limited and not so useful. Hitch-hiking is quite easy in this area. For those without a car, we can give rides when convenient, but not always.

  We value both social time and personal/private time; we'll work together to find the right balance for everyone while you are staying with us.
  
  We love to listen to world-music, a lot from West Africa and the Middle East, but not at super high volumes.
  
  We have no TV, and don't want one.
  
  We are early to bed and early to rise.
  
  We have a newborn baby.... there will be newborn baby noise in the house!
  
  We use computers and phones, but try to expose the kids to it as minimally as possible.
  
  We are very conscious of the behaviors that we model for our kids.
  
  We try to communicate with openness, empathy and compassion; we make strong efforts to be good listeners.
  
  We expect you to respect our way of living and our wishes for our children. At the same time, we are curious and appreciative of what you yourself will add to our lives and especially to Coraggio's experience and development.
