Hello! I'm Allison, and I have a small edge-of-the-jungle farm outside of Puerto Jimenez. For years my neighbors and I ran the space as an experiential learning center, welcoming visitors to live with us in small groups and experience the off-grid lifestyle. It's been inactive for the past two years, and I am now seeking assistance in getting it up and running again!

I'm looking for people who are:
-Spanish-speaking to be able to live closely with our neighbors and coordinate with the community,
-community and social justice-minded, and interested in being an interactive part of the neighborhood
-creative: can bring fresh eyes and new ideas to the space and how to improve it
-self-starting: can work independently and take initiative

We've never had a traditional business model, and I'm especially interested in people who have experience with/interest in cooperatives, collective decision-making, and/or alternative economic models.

The space is incredibly rich with plants, wildlife, and healing energy. See monkeys and toucans from the balcony daily. You will live beside local neighbors with whom we have a strong relationship of exchange and mutual support. The town is a ten minute drive or 45 minute walk away, where you can experience local culture, as well as a hub for many tours of the biology of the area. The farm is located in a quiet area, so you can enjoy the nature in peace, but still having the town close by for what you may need.

Volunteers traveling with a car or other transport would be at a great advantage, being able to breeze down to town and explore the area.

I am looking for a few types of help. Primarily, we will need a primary point-person (or people) who can begin to live on the land longer term (3+ months), and coordinate other volunteers, visitors, etc. Ideally these people will have their own vehicle. This would be perfect for someone who is looking to relocate permanently or longer term, and wants to begin setting up their life in the area, or someone who is considering this type of lifestyle and would like to learn what it's like through living it, rather than just passing through traveling.

This person could have any of the skill sets below:

-Building and fixing. Some spaces on the farm have fallen into disrepair and will need a makeover. I'm looking for crafty individuals who can get creative with a small budget and breathe life back into a space. Please share any experience you may have with handywork.

-Creative. Photography, storytelling, and beginning with publicity to re-open the center. There is also plenty of painting and decorating to be done.

-Organizing. Generally inventorying what we have, what we need, creating documents of systems and welcome materials, etc. Working together on schedules and budgets.

Separately, shorter term volunteers who have these skill-sets can be considered to help fill in with specific projects.

My goal is to work together to breathe life back into the space, and re-open the center as a place where people can live in community when they need a month or more of deep reset. There's lots of cleaning, renovating and organizing to be done, and the space has always been an amalgamation of the creativity of its visitors. I'll rely on the volunteers to live in the space, and make recommendations of what would make it a warm and welcoming space for others, and work closely together to have it thrive.
