🌟 Seeking a Single Person or Couple (or a family in your own accommodation/caravan) from March 🌟
We feel truly blessed to call this land our home and welcome those who resonate with our vision to join us for a while and become part of our family life.
After moving to Portugal from England in August 2023 in our campervan, we found our home in March 2024. Our journey toward self-sustainability is just beginning, guided by Permaculture, Biodynamic, and Hügelkultur principles. We dream of building a family-oriented, community-centered life powered by solar (and maybe wind!) energy.
This is a wonderful place for those who value their own space and enjoy working outdoors.
🧡(With a young child and a busy lifestyle, most of our energy and time is focused on our families needs. We appreciate volunteers who are comfortable spending time independently, as we tend to keep our limited free time low-key rather than socialising so much. That said, we will be working along side you most of the time and are always available for any questions or guidance) 🧡
We’re looking for hard-working, self-motivated, and reliable individuals who can help with daily land responsibilities and ongoing projects. Some tasks will involve tough physical work (like digging or clearing land), while others are creative and rewarding. We aim to balance essential chores with inspiring projects!
🕰️ Schedule & Expectations
• Flexible with the seasons but generally prompt starts in the mornings work best (e.g.,6-7 AM in summer, 9-9.30 AM in winter).
• Flexible with work days & days off but we do like to plan ahead for at least a week. Often a day off in the middle of the week works well for us.
Projects & Tasks
Our garden is steadily growing, and we have an exciting list of projects ahead, including:
• Converting a studio apartment using natural building techniques. 🔨🪚
• Building a greenhouse from reclaimed windows. 🌱🪟
• Expanding the vegetable garden, enlarging the chicken area, and adding new structures—perhaps even welcoming some sheep! 🐑🐓
• Developing and expanding the children’s outdoor areas, creating a shaded messy play and mud kitchen space, and possibly building a climbing frame. 🌿🛝
We’re especially eager to host people who share our values and bring relevant skills or knowledge, as this fosters a smoother, more enriching experience for everyone.
Accommodation
You’ll have one of the following spaces to stay:
• The attic in our family house. 🏡
• A bell tent in our field (dry seasons). 🏕️
• Your own campervan. 🚐
We ask that only natural, biodegradable products (e.g., shampoo, soap, toothpaste, sunscreen) be used during your stay, as our water flows directly back to the land to nourish our fruit trees.
Food & Shared Spaces
We share cooking and cleaning responsibilities, alternating dinner prep and pitching in with tidying and doing the dishes. While we avoid gluten and dairy due to allergies, you’re welcome to enjoy dairy if your mindful of cross contamination, but no gluten please.
We’re happy to accommodate reasonable shopping requests within our budget and can give you lifts into town or to local swimming spots (some are truly stunning!). You can also borrow our kayak or board for water adventures.
Our Family
We prioritise aware and respectful parenting for our energetic, expressive 3.5-year-old son, who attends a Waldorf Forest kindergarten three half-days a week. He loves water, gardening, painting, muddy puddles, and anything with a motor!
Evenings are usually our quiet family time in our own space, but we enjoy occasional social gatherings in the evenings, or trips to markets and festas. We welcome you to join us when it feels right for you.
About Us
We’re Sarah and Mendel, a reflective and mellow couple who value open communication, conflict resolution, and meaningful connections. Mendel leads the gardening and building projects while managing a remote fermented foods business. Sarah is mostly Mothering, co-creating an educational co-op, and beginning Waldorf teaching studies.
We look forward to sharing this journey with like-minded souls who embrace hard work, self-growth, and a connection to the land.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

We both speak fluent English as our native language, and our son’s main language is also English, with some Hebrew and Portuguese. Mendel speaks conversational Hebrew and sometimes uses it with our son. We’re slowly learning Portuguese and hope to integrate it more into our daily lives. Mani loves to sing in Portuguese!Acomodação

Our home is tucked away in a peaceful village, surrounded by wild woodlands and just a short drive (or a hilly walk) from breathtaking river beaches. While the village doesn’t have shops or cafes within walking distance, we’re out and about frequently during the week and happy to align our trips with anything you might need. It’s a wonderful place to disconnect, relax, and enjoy the beauty of nature.

They made me feel very welcome from the first minute. They showed intrest in me and took me to new places around Stroud. I was able to learn a lot about van conversion, childcare and plenty of other stuff.
In the end I even stayed longer than… read more
